Chorus:
That always end up point blank
Shot between the eyes
Point blank
Like little white lies you tell to ease the pain
You're walking in the sights, girl
Of point blank
And it's one false move
And baby, the lights go out

All of this old live stuff brings me back when I was a kid. When listen to music was a private thing, often in my room, alone, turning off lights and be submerged by emotions. And no one else like Bruce is able to sing for the lonely people.

In 1985 when I First listen to this version I didn't understand english very well, and It was so different from the version on the River! 20 Years later I listened to all the version of the darkness tour ! The deepest lyrics ever written, expecially when you don't know where aim your guns because you've been shot in the back...

The arrangement around piano is just classical. It just makes it a beautiful ballad. Takes blues and rock to a different level. ABBA and Led Zep did it and it worked.

The writing processes of Darkness On The Edge Of Town and The River were deeply intertwined. By late '77, Bruce and the E Street Band had recorded dozens of songs, but Bruce gave prevalence to the darker and harder rocking songs for the final tracklist of Darkness On The Edge Of Town, because he wanted this album to sound darker and less epic than Born To Run. Among the lighter, more rockabilly-sounding songs that were rejected at that time, many ended on The River, like Sherry Darling and Ramrod, because Bruce felt they belonged more in this record. Drive All Night and Independence Day were also written and recorded in '77 during the Darkness Session, and would have fitted perfectly on Darkness in my opinion, but they were kept for The River too. Then Bruce wrote further songs during the Darkness Tour '78 and premiered them during the latter part of the tour, like The Ties That Bind and Point Blank, which also ended on The River. The River wasn't even intended to be a double album, but a single album named The Ties That Bind, which was ready for release in late '79, but Bruce cancelled it at the last minute and went back in studio in '80 with a bunch of new songs. In the end The River is the result of 3 years of writing process ranging between the latter part of the Darkness Sessions in '77 and the last River Sessions of mid-'80. So this explains why many future River tracks were played during the Darkness Tour (The Ties That Bind, Independence Day, Sherry Darling and Point Blank regularly during the last months of the tour, and even Ramrod once in December '78), they were either new songs written in '78, or Darkness outtakes.
