I have lived and breathed this mans music, he brings to life the stories of human tragedy and suffering, I was in the NYPD when he wrote 41 shots, I was passed over for promotion because I defended the song. My boss said you like this guy he hates us, I replied no you just don't understand his music, its all about the tragedy of humanity and it can be true the 41 shot incident was a tragedy without condemning anyone.

As I near my 7th decade of life I've finally decided what my favorite song of all time is ------- yeah this is it. I know i've heard it a thousand times or more but it still makes me smile and sometimes it haunts me. Especially when I hear it with my life mate of 40 + years who loves it as much as me. Once again thank you Bruce for all the joy and comfort you have brought me over the years.

One of the best things about Bruce is that his lyrics always grab your hand and pull you through the screen into the movie that they’re painting, and there is no finer example of that than this song, except maybe The River.

How in the wide world can Springsteen reach into the very heart of our collective darkness and touch the longing as it floats in our sea's of sadness in each one of us ? He paints a picture of our lives with his poetry note by note until the end of the song. There is still magic in the world.

I continue to be in awe of this human being even after all these years. Like since the 80’s. Wish I’d known about him before then too! I was introduced by the Born in the USA era. Now recently “rediscovered” him. In my 50’s now. Wow. I missed a lot and regret it but I am so grateful I have found so much of him since coming here on YT ❤️🎶🎹💜☮️

As a little Child my Dad often played Greatest Hits CD in Car just for me. And when he played my favorite Song "My Hometown" i started singing words, i imagine which sounds like his. Later i listened to "The River" nearly each day , now i was old enough to translate the Text and see what Bruce learns us. Now as a Dad i love Thunderroad it reminds my of past times and has this indescribable melancholy and weakness in his notes. On each step in my Life Bruce accompanied me and my Favorite Song changes. There is no other Actor on this planet, who is able to do so.

@@luke5100 you know. I like about 5-10 songs A LOT. Then most of the others just aren’t what I like as far as the music sounds. I’m not into saxophones over rock and roll for some reason! 😂 I realize how weird that is. But it turns me off quickly. However, I recognize the genius lyrically and he has such a great scruffy, really southern sounding, voice. So, it’s not that I’m a hater. I just prefer him in this setting. This video is just a genius doing genius things. Unbelievably excellent.

The screen door slams Mary's dress waves Like a vision she dances across the porch As the radio plays Roy Orbison singing for the lonely Hey that's me and I want you only Don't turn me home again I just can't face myself alone again Don't run back inside Darling, you know just what I'm here for So you're scared and you're thinking That maybe we ain't that young anymore Show a little faith there's magic in the night You ain't a beauty but hey you're alright Oh and that's alright with me You can hide 'neath your covers And study your pain Make crosses from your lovers Throw roses in the rain Waste your summer praying in vain For a saviour to rise from these streets Well now I'm no hero That's understood All the redemption I can offer girl Is beneath this dirty hood With a chance to make it good somehow Hey what else can we do now Except roll down the window And let the wind blow back your hair? Well the night's busting open These two lanes will take us anywhere We got one last chance to make it real To trade in these wings on some wheels Climb in back Heaven's waiting down on the tracks Oh-oh come take my hand We're riding out tonight to case the promised land Oh-oh-oh-oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road Lying out there like a killer in the sun Hey I know it's late we can make it if we run Oh-oh-oh-oh Thunder Road, sit tight, take hold Thunder Road Well I got this guitar And I learned how to make it talk And my car's out back If you're ready to take that long walk From your front porch to my front seat The door's open but the ride ain't free And I know you're lonely For words that I ain't spoken Tonight we'll be free All the promises'll be broken There were ghosts in the eyes Of all the boys you sent away They haunt this dusty beach road In the skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets They scream your name at night in the street Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet And in the lonely cool before dawn You hear their engines roaring on When you get to the porch they're gone On the wind So Mary climb in It's a town full of losers I'm pulling out of here to win

Bruce's poetry rivals that of Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, and other extraordinary singers/songwriters. Bruce explained to Howard Stern in a recent interview that he wrote most of his LP *Born to Run* on his aunt's piano, which is plainly evident in Thunder Road. Notably, Bruce's first two albums didn't sell well. *Born to Run* was his and his band's breakthrough LP. For me, Thunder Road is one of Bruce's very best songs. I also love this version of it.
