Youngstown is my lost home town. "Jenny" was the great blast furnace that was just down the street from our house, and it was later brought down in a cloud of despair and disappointment. My heart breaks whenever I hear this song...

Amazing solo. I usually get to this late on a Friday night. The build up envelopes me and the mesmeric drumming draws me in. My power, my strength is growing and then this wailing solo touches every fibre of my body and then I get up just as he slows, to dance with him, the explosion the spinning, and I’m lost. Will I ever get sense? Hopefully not. Go Nils.

Love this man to the moon and back. He has connected with and is adored by the masses of working class America. He’s been the voice of countless generations. His book was the most unique and intriguing piece of writing you could possibly wish to read. The only man Paul McCartney or Mick Jagger would invite to share the same stage as them. This guy is a living legend on his own... He is the boss !!

basically talks about a factory that made weapons for war, how there was no point in sending young americans to die in vietnam and korea, also talks about soldiers who experience war and come home and never find their place under the sun... so its very deep sad and real... =) i love how he created a factual lyrics that can also be applied to any other similar situation so its sort of factual but also abstract in a way... amazing song!

Here in northeast Ohio Back in eighteen-o-three James and Dan Heaton Found the ore that was linin' Yellow Creek They built a blast furnace Here along the shore And they made the cannonballs That helped the Union win the war Here in Youngstown Here in Youngstown My sweet Jenny I'm sinkin' down Here darlin' in Youngstown Well my daddy worked the furnaces Kept 'em hotter than hell I come home from 'Nam worked my way to scarfer A job that'd suit the devil as well Taconite coke and limestone Fed my children and make my pay Them smokestacks reachin' like the arms of God Into a beautiful sky of soot and clay Here in Youngstown Here in Youngstown Sweet Jenny I'm sinkin' down Here darlin' in Youngstown Well my daddy come on the Ohio works When he come home from World War Two Now the yard's just scrap and rubble He said "Them big boys did what Hitler couldn't do." These mills they built the tanks and bombs That won this country's wars We sent our sons to Korea and Vietnam Now we're wondering what they were dyin' for Here in Youngstown Here in Youngstown My sweet Jenny I'm sinkin' down Here darlin' in Youngstown From the Monongahela valley To the Mesabi iron range To the coal mines of Appalachia The story's always the same Seven hundred tons of metal a day Now sir you tell me the world's changed Once I made you rich enough Rich enough to forget my name And Youngstown And Youngstown My sweet Jenny I'm sinkin' down Here darlin' in Youngstown When I die I don't want no part of heaven I would not do heaven's work well I pray the devil comes and takes me To stand in the fiery furnaces of hell

Sorry to hear that. I haven't been in Australia since R & R during the Vietnam War, but the Australians were great to me. I was reading an article in the Youngstown newspaper yesterday about the loss of auto industry jobs in northeastern Ohio, and it pointed out that the jobs at which people in Ohio were earning $18 hour in 2000 are in 2017 being done in border cities in Mexico by people earning $2 an hour. If you're looking for reasons why Hillary Clinton was disliked by blue collar Americans in places like Youngstown, you don't need to go much farther than her husband and NAFTA, which rightly or wrongly has become the signature program for his presidency. The TPP is now dead, and good riddance! If 45 does nothing else positive for the average person (a strong possibilityu) he may still be worthwhile just to kill it.

Darren Ott got it right. Steel works gone In Newcastle, manufacturing jobs shipped off to Asia, no car industry. Pretty much all Australia has got is digging stuff out of the earth, tourism and property speculation.

LazydogRex I did my apprenticeship as a boilermaker with an Australian company that was the biggest manufacturer of rolling stock in the southern hemisphere. The company no longer exists and we import our rolling stock now. The trains and trams we built are still running, nothing wrong with the product, just more profit if they import them.
