Bruce is starting to become big brother protective over Justice. It is great to see the bond happening even faster than I imagined. Bruce always corrects Norman when Norman gets too energetic. The difference today was he was having zero patience and correcting the moment Norman's energy would go higher than he liked, which I believe is due to Justice being there and him becoming protective over Justice. I would caution you to be careful about letting Bruce interfere with other dogs and your puppy. I have labs so not exactly protection dogs. When I got my puppy my female lab immediately started protecting him. Initially she would stand over him or in front of him and not let other dogs approach. She was very well socialized prior to getting the puppy because I knew I always wanted another dog. I used to think it was cute until it wasn’t. She began attacking every dog anywhere near the puppy. She became extremely aggressive and it was a long road to fixing that behavior once it starts. I’ve gotten 2 other puppies since that first one and she is much better. You have to know the dogs you’re introducing your puppies to. If you think Norman is getting too excited you or the owner should tell Norman to knock it off. Bruce should not be correcting Norman. Don’t worry. If a truly aggressive dog comes up and you need assistance your dog will step in. I have unfortunately been attacked a few times over my lifetime and I allow her to take charge if I can’t take care of the situation. Good luck 🍀

That sounds solid, it looks like letting Bruce act out with so much power is putting him at the head of the pack, which is kind of scary, all it takes is one mistake.

my cane corso male was the biggest softy before we bought a cane corso bitch home. our trainer said he suffers from fear aggression now(with dogs only) because he was attacked alot when he was younger and finally snapped and decided he was going to attack other dogs before giving them the chance but I can't help but wonder if he is protecting/resource guarding now that he has a sister....

Your right about needing to carefully monitor what is happening with your dogs and others dog because it looks like Bruce has made himself the protector. Our dog did the same thing when we introduced another dog into the family. At first it looked like our Lucy couldn't care less about the new dog Mikka but if another dog showed up and gave Mikka a hard time Lucy would get very aggressive. One time Lucy got so mad at another dog barking at Mikka through a 5 foot chain link fence that she jumped the fence to make them stop. Lucky for us as soon as she got into the next door neighbors yard the neighbor's dog stopped barking and hid. The other good thing is that Lucy didn't pursue things any further.

Yep, Norman was just happy and playful, not aggressive or a threat to anyone. When the owners are near they (should) take the role of alpha over the entire pack. Big fail on the part of the owners here for not chilling Bruce down to allow the gregarious Norman to be a welcome part of the fun.

@@montag4516 I agree. I was pissed at this video. I have a Golden and did not like how this went down. Norman is just a puppy still. I think Bruce may have been acting more possessive of the pup (and territory) rather than just protective. Norman is energetic and playful, yes, but I saw no actual aggressive or dominating behavior from him (no growling, snarling, etc.). Looks like he just wanted to play. I would've handled that scenario differently and corrected Bruce to chill out. When the owners are near they're supposed to be the alpha(s) over any other dog in the pack.

Everyone is saying how great that they are becoming friends and it is awesome when your dogs get along. This early on Bruce is resource guarding justice. Just like dogs can do with toys, food or their own people. Justice needs his alone time with different dogs to figure out that not all dogs are the same. He can decide whether he likes this personality or that one. I find it ironic that you’re proud of justice mimicking Bruce on training behaviors but do not necessarily pick up that he is mimicking Bruce’s aggressive behavior. It sounds cute when it’s a puppy growling and barking but he might begin thinking that’s how you behave around strange dogs. That’s how dogs can become reactive. I have 3 dogs and each one has different friends in the neighborhood because they each are drawn to different traits. I would see if the daycare can socialize justice with other puppies/well behaved dogs without Bruce hovering over his shoulder. If Bruce can watch from a distance and realize that nothing bad is going to happen it will help calm him down. That’s what I learned with my new puppies. I’m in charge. I either hold the older dog behind me while the puppy greets a dog I know or my husband walks off with the older dog while we interact. The older dog is not allowed to react. No lunging barking or otherwise craziness. After a few greetings the older dog sees I’m not so stupid after all and I can take care of the puppy. She begins to relax and she’s a completely different dog. Good luck 🍀

Bruce is very good at not taking it too far it seems. He might make him stop more than he needs to, but he doesn't take it past a quick correction. I have seen some dogs that keep going even after the other dog submits. Bruce is a great big brother, but he does need to learn to trust your guys instinct on if the puppy is or is not in danger. He did a great job with the FedEx person too.
@anthonybrown4292 жыл бұрын
I don't see anything wrong with what BW did here. JJ was uncomfortable with the hyper active Norman. You can see it throughout the video. BW could sense that. He checked the dog immediately but didn't bite or over do it. Just tried to put him down with his head to calm him down. I think BW is an AMAZING dog. Protective skills unmatched. Does just enough without being too aggressive.. His reaction to the female FedEx driver was exceptional. I don't know many dogs that would've handled that situation any better. Jason has been great jumpa in he thinks it's too much... but allows the dog to be himself and the protector he was born to be.
@badandy19832 жыл бұрын
My Kangal does the same thing. If the other dog stops or submits he will not do anything else but it’s almost like he enjoys putting them in their place because he goes a little overboard sometimes. He never hurts them though. He can just be a jerk until I yell to be nice. If the other drug tries to bite or attack then I have no control over him.

Last Thursday, Thunder went to day care & there was a great dane Thunder plays with a lot, after their romping play session, the dane got tired & laid down, then Thunder just snapped & attacked the great dane causing substantial injuries, hospitalizing the dane. Would you have any idea what would set Thunder off to do that? And now he's growling at my cousins 12 yr old daughter off & on.
