How To Use LG Top Load Washing Machine WT7300 WT7250, WT7400 and others... This video will demonstrate how to get started and select cycles for better performance with this clothes washer. It's been 5 years since I reviewed this LG top load washing machine and I've received so many comments, questions, and requests for the cheat sheet, that I figured I should make another video (sorry it's taken so long). This video, which may be the first in a series (assuming folks "LIKE" and watch), will provide answers to commonly asked questions as well as share much of the information included on the cheat sheet. If you have recommendations on laundry videos that you or others might find helpful, let me know in the comments and I'll try to make them in between doing laundry. :)

If your mattress pad has a waterproof membrane, it’s difficult for the water to escape during the spin segment. Once the Bedding cycle is complete, often times I’ll turn the cover inside out and run a SPIN Only cycle using a medium spin speed.

Thank you so much for this. I’ve been having a HUGE issue with this washer actually depositing scrud/dark brown stains on my clothes. I pray this helps.
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 8 ай бұрын
Scrud is a bit more difficult to get rid of. You can try and run a few Tub Clean cycles, but the most effective way to get rid of it requires removing the tub for a thorough cleaning. Once cleaned, I recommend switching to a different detergent and/or softener (or at least use less) since they are likely the culprit.

This is fantastic, thank you for this video. I got the WT7400C and it's dryer version for $1417 after taxes thanks to deals, but was concerned with some of the reviews complaining about "low water levels" Seeing your suggestion about the heavy duty + turbo wash puts my mind at ease, as I didn't want to just use the "deep fill" every single time. Seeing it actually in action puts my mind at ease! This is literally the only video on this model I can find that gives this kind of a rundown.
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR Жыл бұрын
Glad to know the video is helpful. We find the washer works well for us and there are work arounds for the low water level of the Normal cycle (Other cycles use plenty of water). Most folks think more water means better performance, but it’s a balance. Too much water just causes things to float and reduces turnover. The best performance occurs when there’s just enough water to barely cover the clothes. I hope you enjoy the new machines. 😃

My new LG washer did not add enough water to my blue jeans being washed. Then after spinning the clothes we’re to wet. I tried the spin only cycle and had to hold the Spin Button for 3 seconds before it turned on. I had to find a youtube video to learn how to do that. Very disappointed in my new washer. 😢 Their instructions booklet does not explain enough about the machine.

I just bought my washer and dryer. I only fill mine half way and it moves really slow motion. And the same clothing stay on top either something is wrong with the machine or I’m doing something wrong. Help I’m wondering if I should have gotten it with the agitator?
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 11 ай бұрын
@@deborahgreen6795 I do sometimes wonder if an agitator would make a difference when it comes to clothes floating; however, what I can tell you with this machine is that using too much water will cause items to float, which results in poor wash performance. Selecting the correct cycle is the key with this machine and I recommend avoiding WaterPlus unless you’re washing things that are very absorbent (ie, a fluffy cotton blanket or towels). As far as slow movements, I recommend reviewing some of my cycle videos to see if your washer is functioning similarly or at least try a SpeedWash and watch the cycle all the way through. Hope that helps!

I hear you. Whether they have an agitator or impeller (aka, wash plate), top loaders can be tricky when it comes to bulky items that float. Sometimes I'll throw a towel on top to keep things down and even then it's not perfect. Unlike front loaders, at least you can pause the cycle and intervene when necessary.

Unfortunately (and oddly) you cannot select a hot water temp with SpeedWash. If you wanted to use hot water with a cycle that would provide similar results, you could download SMALL LOAD from the app, add WaterPlus, select Hot for the water temp, and change the soil level to Normal. The display will show the cycle time as 59 minutes, but once it sense a small to medium sized load run time will change to 29-32 minutes which is comparable to the time of the Normal and SpeedWash cycles. It’s hard to believe how complicated LG has made doing laundry. 😂

Wow! I can’t say I’ve experienced low water pressure so thank you for sharing that. Have you ever put a pressure gauge on one of your faucets? Our pressure is roughly 70 PSI, but when someone flushes is a toilet or takes a shower, the issue isn’t water pressure but water volume (not enough water running through the pipes). If the washer is filling and someone flushes, it will start the wash segment and then sense there isn’t enough water. At that point it pauses and adds more water.

Thank you for the video. I just got the WT7400C. For my 1st load I used the speed wash cycle, but it wrinkled all shirts and t. Shirts. Any tips to avoid wrinkling shirts?
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 11 ай бұрын
Wrinkles in cotton t-shirts is pretty normal and they usually come out when the clothes are put into the dryer. If you air dry clothes, you can place them flat to dry, or place them flat, hand iron while still damp, and then hang them up to dry. To avoid wrinkles in anything (t-shirts, dress shirts) you can use the Delicates cycle for small loads and change the soil level to Normal... just keep in mind you're limited on spin speed so things will take longer to dry. Deep Wash is another option since it uses a little more water and doesn't use TurboWash for the rinse segment.

@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 8 ай бұрын
Occasionally water does remain in the detergent tray after a cycle is complete. It’s perfectly normal. Be sure to pull the tray out and leave the lid up so the tub can dry out. As far as water filling slowly, ours only fills slowly if someone is using water elsewhere in the house because while we have good water pressure, we have low water volume. I have a bunch of full cycle videos posted that you should be able to see tub fills (there should be links in the video’s description). Looks like you did a bunch of solid troubleshooting. Perhaps try flushing the hot and cold water lines into a bucket to see if the issue is before the water inlets of the washer.

Hi. Great video, I’ve had the WT7200 for 6 years and love it, but learned so much about the cycle from your video, although my normal wash cycle seems to have plenty of water. I also do not have the Turbo feature, hmm I was hoping to learn how to soak my soiled clothes overnight but it wasn’t discussed. Any time I pause the washer after it’s been filled it automatically drains after a certain period of time. Any advice? Thanks in advance

Thanks for providing useful information. I have a problem with LG washing machine. There are so many stains especially on black colour clothes after washing. They are full of white stains and smell bad. I hand wash those again and put in Washing Machine to drain the water. Is there any solution of this issue?
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 11 ай бұрын
For starters, I recommend running a tub clean cycle to see if that solves both issues, but there are really two things happening here… white stains on dark clothes and those dreaded odors. Let’s start with the lint/stains: In my experience, we get white “stains” (either lint or soap residue or both) on black clothing when (A) A lint producing item (sock, towel) was accidentally included in the load; (B) A water repellent or sweat wicking item was included in the load, which prevented lint from escaping in the rinse water; (C) The previous load was heavy lint-producing items (cottons), but some of the lint was not completely rinsed from the tub (again usually due to a sweat wicking item); (D) I left a tissue in a pocket (aka, the exploding Kleenex); and/or (E) I used too much detergent. My solution to remove white stains/lint is to run a Rinse & Spin cycle (use this if the “stains” are from detergent) followed by placing the garments into the dryer with a dryer sheet for 30 minutes on the “Air Dry” cycle. That will remove lint and exploding tissues. Air Dry doesn’t use heat, but if you don’t have that feature on your dryer just use the lowest heat option. Odors can occur for a few reasons, but they’re a bit tricky to deal with. If your washer has an odor that is transferring to the clothes, run a tub clean cycle (or two) using a washing machine cleaner (Afresh, Tide Washing Machine cleaner, or another brand of washing machine cleaner… I’ve found just using bleach or white vinegar doesn’t work as well), then wipe clean the surrounding areas inside the tub (if you see mold or mildew anywhere like the detergent tray wipe with diluted bleach or white vinegar). Most importantly, be sure you’re leaving the lid up and detergent tray pulled out when the machine is not in use. Leaving the lid up and tray pulled out allows the tub to dry and will prevent future odors. If your washer is located in a damp or humid environment, it can be hard for the tub to completely dry out. Our washer lives in the basement, which is damp during summer. To conquer moisture I run a dehumidifier to keep humidity around 60%. If the odor is not in the tub and your clothes smell sour, it can occur when clothes are left in the tub for more than 24 hours or hanged to dry in a damp or humid environment. My other half likes me to hang dry her yoga pants and they sour during the summer months because they don’t dry fast enough. Blech! Sour smells can be hard to remove, but I’ve found a little baking soda added to the wash followed by using the Air Dry or low heat option on the dryer works most times. I don’t fully dry the items that she wants hang dried, but I use the dryer to help get them started. That way they dry before souring. I hope that helps!

Unfortunately you cannot bypass the sensing segment. It’s pretty common for the estimated time to decrease following the sensing segment given the estimate is likely based on a full load… although I don’t recommend ever filling the tub to capacity since turnover will suffer as a result.

My wife and I are using washable diaper and we would like to make them soak overnight sometime with the appropriate detergent... Instead of using the bath to do so we were hoping to use the washer... So far I was not able to find an option that would let us do it... the closest thing I could do was start a cycle, add water plus, wait for the tub to be filled and press the pause button but the machine auto empty after 15-20 minutes...
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR Жыл бұрын
As you pointed out, the machine will drain the tub after a brief period of inactivity. It’s a safety feature to prevent the possibility of flooding your home. I’ve previously experimented to try and come up with an overnight soak, but was unsuccessful. As far as I know, there is nothing other than the SOAK option and prewash+Normal on the machine. As far as Downloadable cycles I thought there used to be a diapers cycle, but the closest cycles I see are for Baby Bibs, Children’s Wear, and Juice and Food Stains. The thing I’ve done before to create a mock ‘soak and hand wash’ is to choose a long running cycle like heavy duty or Children’s Wear (turn off TurboWash) add the SOAK option and an extra rinse. That will at least provide 2+ hours of wetness. Unfortunately, it will also waste a fair amount of water and electricity.

Turn on the machine to your prefered cycle and let the machine start washing for just a few minutes. This will agitate the clothes with the detergent. Then I pause the machine and unplug from the outlet. When I finish soaking I plug it back and select my preferred cycle and it starts washing again. I do the soaking in the day hours just in case there would be a leak.

Hello I wanted to know how to load coats and comforters. Also I have an issue when I put a comforter & or coats in the machine it does not rinse & drain the clothes. How can I continue the cycle without it being drained out & spin cycle being completed
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 5 ай бұрын
Bulky items like coats and comforters are definitely tricky with a top load washer. Bulky items should be washed separately and can be put into the middle of the tub. Sometimes washing two coats together works better to balance out the load in which case you can load around the edges. If the coats or comforter float on top of the water, sometimes spreading a bath towel over the top can weigh it down. For coats, use the Waterproof cycle the coats are water repellent and the Bedding cycle for comforters. When you say, “it does not rinse and drain the clothes” are you saying the machine doesn’t rinse or drain them adequately or are the rinse and spin not running at all? The later is bizarre to me unless the the load becomes so unbalanced draining the wash water that it can’t continue. Do you get any error codes? If that happens, you can always run a Rinse and Spin (only use low or medium spin with bulky items). With bulky items that float, you may need to do a separate Rinse and Spin anyway. Happy to help, just need some clarity on what exactly is happening and when.

The WTW8500 is a Whirlpool, which I haven’t taken apart, but the issue sounds electrical (possibly circuit board) related since the display doesn’t light up. If you could see the display, at least you’d be able to see an error code to provide guidance. Check that your machine doesn’t have a child lock because if it’s engaged, the machine won’t respond until the child lock is turned off. If none of those is the issue, try unplugging the machine for 20 seconds and then plugging it back in for a reset.

If you want to use a lot of water to wash “everyday clothes” and then rinse with a “fill-the-tub-style” rinse you have a few options. Option (1): Use the NORMAL cycle, but turn off the TurboWash option; Option (2): Use the HEAVY DUTY cycle and change the Soil Level to Normal; Option (3) Use the DEEP WASH cycle. If you want to add additional water to the wash segment for any of the three options above, which shouldn’t be necessary, you could also select the WaterPlus option. Just keep in mind that selecting the WaterPlus option with the NORMAL cycle (option 1 above), will automatically change the cycle to DEEP WASH (option 3 above). As far as the amount of time each cycle will take to go from the wash to rinse segment, it will depend on load size. Hope that helps!

There is no lint filter in the WT7300 and it is likely the same for the 7400. Lint gets flushed out through the drain hose. As far as soaking, the washer is limited to the Soak and Stain Care options (under Special Care) and PreWash + Normal. As you pointed out, if you pause the machine in an effort to soak garments, the washer’s safety feature drains the tub after five minutes of inactivity. Some folks have commented that they pull the plug once the tub has filled and then plug it back in to allow it to resume the wash cycle, but I don’t recommend it. The safety feature is intended to prevent flooding should the seals wear out.

Hi. New 7400 delivered this morning. (started with normal, warm, high spin x 3 loads). Wash cycle last 42-44 mins each. Whee long time. Most concern--- Mystified by rinse cycle. Jets do spray while drum spinning. This takes about 2 mins. Then light moves onto spin for the next 8-10 mins. Clothes not soapy when removed, but can't believe these jet method actually works. Any suggestions?

If your clothes aren’t coming out soapy, you should be good. When the TurboWash option is selected the cycle will use the sprayer for rinsing. If the TurboWash’s rinse isn’t thorough enough you can 1) add an extra rinse in which case the extra rinse will be a fill-the-tub style rinse; 2) Select cycles that don’t use TurboWash; or 3) Turn off TurboWash if it is a cycle’s default (you can only do this before starting a cycle). Regarding wash times, if the 7400 is like the 7300. Smaller loads will perform better and take less time. Have you tried SpeedWash?

Very helpful video. Could you tell me what kind of watch you are wearing? It is dope. I would like to buy one.

Ha! The watch is a Timex Ironman R300 GPS... my other half got it for me for my 50th. I've always worn classic Ironman digital watches, so it was nice to finally get a smart watch (it's similar to Garmin and FitBits). Tracks all the usual stuff (sleep, steps, pace, altitude, heart rate, etc.) and you can change the watch faces in the Timex App. Only needs to be charged every 5 weeks or so.

It would be good to test the difference of the washer settings using a higher powered detergent like Tide stain remover or Persil and see if the normal setting works better.

That's a good idea. There's still the issue of not having enough water with the Normal cycle, so you'd want to cut back on the amount used. Although, I prefer to avoid Tide because it used to give me a rash.

@@BruceAlanR tide free and clear might help with that but it’s doesn’t clean as well as the stain remover.

I just bought a similar model, but it doesn’t have a turbo wash setting. Do you know if turbo wash is automatic when speed wash and heavy duty are selected?

It’s not likely, but without knowing which model you have I wouldn’t know for sure. Sorry.
