I own a lot of the Ridgid boxes and love them! I'm an industrial electrician so they are exposed to rough weather and conditions all the time and have held up well. If I had one complaint it would be the warranty. I contacted the manufacture regarding My Gen1 rolling box when the rubber tread on my wheels was coming off. They offered me nothing. I was even willing to purchase new wheels from them and they told me they don't provide parts. So, keep this in mind.

Just in case you did not know it, if you own more drawer units you can remove the drawers and reassemble them in to a 4 drawer unit and a 2 drawer unit by swapping the drawers.
@BruceAlanR9 ай бұрын
Yes, I recently watched a video on that, which was pretty smart. The guy cut the bottom out of the top drawer and anchored the two small drawers together to make a two drawer box. He also made a box into one large drawer by cutting out the bottom of the two small drawers. I believe that’s what you’re referring to?
@lorenrickey54819 ай бұрын
@@BruceAlanR I saw that too. But what I’m talking about requires NO cutting, just two toolboxes. Remove one large drawer from a unit and replace it with two of the smaller drawers from the other unit. Put the last large drawer in to the unit with the remaining large drawer. Now you have a unit with 4 drawers and a unit with 2 large drawers.

Sounds like a good deal. This is the time of year to stock up. I actually need a new cart with wheels as the popping and clicking sound in the handle was a broken piece. Cart still works, it’s just annoying. I have to stop overloading and stacking my boxes so high. 😂
@kurthanushek55209 ай бұрын
There are trade offs with all the systems. Most of the systems build the handle and wheels into the big box which requires it be the bottom box. It is my understanding that the Ridgid can use the three drawer unit as the bottom unit on the stack and have the top opening box on the top. This to me is essential for easy access without breaking down the stack to access the bottom unit. To me, for it to be successful, it needs to stay together as a unit almost all the time. The lower volumetric efficiency of the Ridgid drawer unit is less of a concern for me. I will have to be careful not to overload it anyways. The durability is a concern for me. Hopefully it can a reasonable lifetime. Over the years, I have had my share of tool boxes with broken handles, latches and wheels. Based on this and my internet research I have pretty much decided on this system. Hopefully I am not disappointed when I actually go to look at them.
@BruceAlanR9 ай бұрын
Yes, I think Ridgid got the design right by allowing the XL toolbox to be swapped out for the drawer box. Supposedly they had a 2 and three drawer option too but haven’t released it yet. A few stores rec’d a couple, but they pushed the release date. Heck, you could even stack two drawer boxes on the cart with a small toolbox on top and never have to unstack. The only issue with that would be you might need to convert one of the boxes to a single drawer (cut out the bottom of the upper drawers and secure them together) to accommodate larger tools (circular saw comes to mind).

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have since added a two drawer box, which I prefer over the 3 drawer box… holds more power tools. Fasteners, sanding disks, drill/driver, and RO sander go in the 3 drawer box and then jigsaw and cutoff tools along with their accessories go into the two drawer box. Works great for me.

Does the Dewalt Bottom box have slots for spacers?
@BruceAlanR20 күн бұрын
The DeWalt extra large rolling toolbox can accommodate 3/8” thick spacers, which will cut the box into 3rds; however, unlike the Ridgid box, the DeWalt spacer slots are only in the lower half of the box. I believe DeWalt did that so that the box can accommodate the tool trays, which are sold separately.

I had the Rigid system for years. I have both gen1 and 2. I recently bought a 2 drawer for my bottom rolling unit, middle is the mid size, top one is the small Gen 1 box. The small box in Gen 1 flips open all the way making it a staging area. You can also click them together , thereby you can flip open the middle box to access ALL your tools with out unstacking your set up .👍

First of all, this was a very thorough review. A 3-month check-in would be nice this was a great first look. Thanks for all the data . I carry about four gen 1 boxes to most jobs. I only carry the 12-in boxes but they are durable. I find the interlocking mechanism slightly cumbersome but not too annoying. Ever since I've been using these boxes I rarely need a ladder It's my favorite thing about this box. As for drawers, I've paired my system with the Tanos tool boxes which has been working quite well. Great review, you earned a sub!
@BruceAlanRАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience. I like the boxes as a ladder idea. A three month check in would be a good idea. I usually only do check-ins if I have an issue. The only issue I’ve had to date has been the clicking handle I showed in the video, which turns out to be a piece that broke off from the handle. It’s probably from overloading the boxes and dragging them up and down stairs. Luckily the wheels/cart is an inexpensive part to replace. It would be expensive to replace my dewalt box with wheels. The only other issue I have is that Ridgid still doesn’t sell the mounting brackets separately so I have to make them. Ugh! Thanks again!

@BruceAlanR6 ай бұрын
My apologies. I tend to speak quickly and more so if a video is really long. If you didn’t know, you can adjust playback speed of videos on KZbin. If you start to play a video and tap on it you will see a gear (upper right corner of the video if on a phone or lower right corner on desktop). If you tap/click on the gear you will see Playback Speed and can select .75x or .50x. It may also be helpful to turn on closed captioning (cc) since I always upload them.
