All Bruces models fly well but I couldn't believe this was it's first outing - it went so well. Weighing in at under 4 grams it's a lightweight work of art. Bruce prints the tissue on his computers ink jet printer.

Wow! As a kid who briefly played with wind up airplanes, never in my wildest imagination would I have believed one could fly so long and so well. I guess that is the difference between building it, and perfecting it. Well done Bruce. Your plane building skills blew my mind.

@@ltwakeatmsndotcom It is hard to see that there is a balsa stick or tube running from the nose of the airplane to the tail. It is obscured by the motor. It is the backbone of the model, able to withstand the pressure of the wound motor. Do a search for no cal, or no-cal, or nocal, flying models and you'll see other examples.

A few days ago me and my brother were talking about how in the 60s you could buy these balsa wood gliders. I think 15 cents got you a basic glider 20 cents got you a rubber band prop, and 29 cents added landing gears. Personally, I liked the little guys on parachutes and I only wish plastic garbage bags had existed then to make replacement parachutes.
@alanpaul1234

Yes I remember them well. I used to fly them at school. Bruce's models probably weigh less than those all balsa models.

Amazing. Any tips for a beginner? My planes just dive straight into the ground..or fly erraticallyup down like yoyo (and then dive into ground) and flights last about 3 seconds no matter what trimmings i try..or maybe recommend a book i can read to improve?
@alanpaul1234
@alanpaul1234 3 ай бұрын
I'm not sure about books but there is plenty of stuff on the internet search for trimming indoor planes. Adding a bit of nose weight often helps in getting planes to fly better, so may be worth trying. Good luck.

Wonderful flight, model and pilot! I've watched the video several times but I can not see how the winding works. There is this strong wire clamped to the table that has a hook and is attached to the rubber. But is the prop hook also still attached to the rubber? If so, it must be fiddly to get the model of the strong hook if fully wound up.
@alanpaul1234
@alanpaul1234 Ай бұрын
@@Tinkerlog Hi, yes Bruce is an amazing modeller who has been doing this for 70 years!! The prop is attached to the rubber and it comes off the strong hook relatively easily as it is lubricated with special rubber lubricant. I shall have to pay closer attention when we start indoor flying again in September. Best wishes.
