This randomly auto played for me in the car last year. It bought tears to my eyes. At the time I was in the final stages of moving away from my hometown, a bittersweet moment in my life. A song I’ve known basically my whole life yet I’d never heard this version and it instantly moved me to tears. Incredible.

The BOSS,in his prime, buff and fearless belting out perhaps his best song ever alone in front of 50,000 fans. He makes them part of the moaning plead for salvation the song begs for at the end. Does it get any better than this?

My uncle Jeff was a huge Springsteen fan in the mid-80’s. He tried to act and dress like Bruce and actually favored him quite a bit. My uncle was murdered by a bystander in 1988 trying to break up a fight in which an older man was getting severely beaten. Senseless murder. I remember how hard it hit me to hear the Tunnel of Love album being played at his funeral. I was fortunate enough to receive many of my uncle’s possessions, including his cassette tapes. I spent the whole summer during my junior year of high school listening and getting acquainted to Bruce’s music. It was a very spiritual experience to me that felt like it connected me to my departed uncle. This version of Born to Run was one of my favorite tracks that was in his collection. Everytime I hear a Springsteen song I feel like my Uncle Jeff is there with me

I was at this concert in LA and at first felt a bit disappointed because this wasn’t the version I was expecting. But I ended up almost in tears at how beautiful it was. Just haunting. It felt like a perfect counterpoint to the original version-at first the wildness of youth and then a deeper maturity with the passing of time but yet the same deep hunger and yearning. Truly one of the most amazing songs ever written and performed by the most talented artist ❤

Bruce us in some ways a “guy’s guy”- traditionally masculine- but he’s also obviously very sensitive and a gifted poet- this song is almost mystical in its grandiosity and romanticism- Bruce is a mix of Elvis- the good looking masculine ladies’ man rock and roller and Bob Dylan- the poet with incredible ability to articulate certain universals

To be fair, Bruce spent his whole career kissing Clarence. Bruce seems to have always been pretty aware of the macho manly dude rock and roll singer stereotype, and did his best not to give into the pitfalls of such. It's very progressive and punk rock of him, in a way. Bruce has taught me a lot over the years.

Born To Run" In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines Sprung from cages out on Highway 9 Chrome-wheeled, fuel-injected, and steppin' out over the line Oh, baby, this town rips the bones from your back It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap We gotta get out while we're young 'Cause tramps like us Baby, we were born to run Yes, girl, we were Wendy, let me in, I wanna be your friend I wanna guard your dreams and visions Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims And strap your hands 'cross my engines Together we could break this trap We'll run 'til we drop, baby, we'll never go back Oh, will you walk with me out on the wire? 'Cause, baby, I'm just a scared and lonely rider But I gotta know how it feels I wanna know if love is wild Babe, I want to know if love is real Oh, can you show me? Beyond the Palace, hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard Girls comb their hair in rear-view mirrors, and the boys try to look so hard The amusement park rises bold and stark, kids are huddled on the beach in a mist I wanna die with you, Wendy, on the streets tonight in an everlasting kiss 1-2-3-4! The highway's jammed with broken heroes on a last-chance power drive Everybody's out on the run tonight, but there's no place left to hide Together, Wendy, we can live with the sadness I'll love you with all the madness in my soul Oh, someday, girl, I don't know when We're gonna get to that place where we really wanna go And we'll walk in the sun But 'til then tramps like us Baby, we were born to run Oh, honey, tramps like us Baby, we were born to run Come on, Wendy, tramps like us Baby, we were born to run

A very late comment, but wooow, this version really brings all the emotion out in the song. You can truly feel the pain he feels, and the love he has for "Wendy." he really exspresses the pain it is not being a prt of the normal world and all it`s bullshit, and the freedom that arrives, once you discover you don`t belong in it. The song takes on a greater poignance now that we know it’s the tale of Bruce’s father and mother “escaping the bonds of disappointment in New Jersey” when they moved out to California. Back when this was written and recorded, he could sing us the song, but he couldn’t tell us what it meant to him until he wrote his autobiography. Just beautiful.
