I just bought this piece a few days ago, and there are a few things to add: 1) They use a special machine that makes the sapphire crystal surface super smooth, non-porous, at magnification. It's way more smooth than Rolex. 2) The special steel that they have created (O-MEGASTEEL) scores lower on some yield measurement test for flex under pressure. It doesn't warp under extreme pressure as much as other steel, like Rolex's 904L steel. Also, this special steel has a unique sheen to it. 3) The caseback has a slight conical shape to it, such that under extreme pressure it seals better than it would if it were perfectly round. 4) There is no helium escape valve, because the seal is so good that helium atoms don't enter in the first place. So, whereas Rolex could make fun of the "wart" of a helium escape valve found on some other Omega watches, and the fact that they require manual operation, Omega can say, "Whatever, Rolex, this dive watch doesn't even require a helium escape valve at all." Edit to add a couple of more interesting tidbits: 5) This watch is rated to go 7,200 feet deeper than the Deepsea (20,000ft vs. 12,800 ft) 6) They did a more detailed mapping of the Mariana Trench, such that they found a spot that is 7 meters deeper than previously found, so Omega took the watch upon which this one is based to that depth, so they could say that they have been deeper than Rolex. So now Omega is not only the highest (original) watch with the Moonwatch, they are the deepest as well. 7) I own a lot of Omega and Rolex, so I have to give Rolex at least one nod, they still have the deepest watch in production (the Deepsea Challenge). It's rated to go to the Mariana Trench.

Being realistic I would give the deepest dive watch to this over the DSC, and only compare this to the Deepsea. I prefer Rolex but the DSC is too OTT and not realistically available. Not sure Rolex ever made fun of the wart, but a real world problem with it is having to check it's actually shut. Having something you do not ever use is much better being automatic IMO. Omega fanboys love the aesthetic so as I am happy either way on the PO series and they can argue it out amongst themselves haha.

My Sinn UX is only rated for 5,000m WR, so I'm looking for something with a bit more depth. This Omega looks like it can handle some splashes from hand-washing.
@danielmewes2 ай бұрын
Agree. The Sinn UX is fine for hand washing and maybe a shower when there's no movement (static pressure), but with dynamic pressure I'd say at most it's good for a light rain shower. 😅

@@danielmewesomg, so given I’m in southern England in the middle of Storm Bert (I kid you not, it’s a “named” storm) I shouldn’t even go outside with one of these on? Phew, lucky I’ve got my white dial Seamaster Professional Diver 300 - that’s genuinely rainproof 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😎
@pedromanuellopez142Ай бұрын
The Sinn U Series cases are actually meant/designed/conceived/built to withstand 12000 meters. Sinn doesn't make the claim, because they haven't tested it, but I am willing to take their word for it

If they sell the watch that went to the deepest part of the ocean, they should market it as “Unlimited depth” rated on the dial

Another great video in your warm and friendly style. Hefty watch lover (7.5" wrist) here too and this is not a daily lol! Personally I prefer the original James Cameron Deepsea homage Ultra Deep as it has more colours and is cheaper. It will also be more discountable, but 10-15% off of this one should be possible in the UK (as it was on the original when it finally hit the shops).. I think the original has more precious metal involved too but I could be wrong. The movement is nowhere near as smooth as the Deepsea but it's a stunning watch and the two are actually difficult to compare IMO. Love that it's no date. It's a shame that the bracelet is only 22mm and tapers to a very narrow and long clasp. It also does not have the profile curve that the 600m PO does (that I love!!), but I prefer the male end link and its interesting without the HEV (I am actually on the fence with HEV's on PO's but dislike on SMP300's). Really not keen on the UV Graffiti. It looks childish and its odd mentioning 10,935m on a 6000m watch IMO. People have pondered using some of the aesthetics of this in a new PO 600m, but I worry that any new PO 600m will be spoiled, rather than improved.

I’ve had this watch for a few months now and it still puts a smile on my face each time I pick it up to wear it. It looks even better in hand than the pics or videos would suggest. Wears smaller than other watches at this size. Case thickness is not a problem as the bracelet extension helps with getting a proper fit. From far away it looks stealth, so no worries about prying eyes but closer up, it looks amazing! (Not too flashy). Weight isn’t that bad if you’re used to bigger tool watches. If you’re a fan of or own a Rolex DSSD, a bigger Breitling, or seiko samurai/sumo , this is a no brainer. Buy it if you can get your hand on one!

The “Omega was here” thing is a dig at Rolex; the Ultra Deep beat the Deep Sea’s depth record by 30 meters. And Omega has tested the Ultra Deep to 15,000 meters, so it would likely beat the Deep Sea Challenge, which claims 11,000 meters on the dial.
