I agree 100%. I have a Mido Ocean Star and an Oris Aquis, both with rubber straps and I cannot tell enough difference between them to justify the cost difference. Mido is an excellent choice for value.

I agree that Mido and Certina are underrepresented Swatch Group brands that I need to consider before my next purchase. The good thing about their neglect is that they can often be found for good prices on the grey market. Thank you Bruce 😊👍

Hello Bruce. Love your channel. The movement here is not COSC certified, that would be in the diver 600 with silicone balance spring. This one is adjusted in 3 positions I think. Another interesting preposition is the ocean star tribute with the mesh bracelet, that one is a beauty.

I have had one of these Mido 200 divers for the last year as my daily beater. I’ve put it through hell and it hasn’t missed a beat. Other than a small crown that’s a pain it’s a pretty solid watch for under $1k

finally a mido review :) very well done bruce! not too sure about that chronometer fact though. i had the titanium version of it and don't believe it was a certified chronometer. if you're looking for a chronometer and a ceramic insert bezel you should go for the mido ocean star diver 600. but that would be almost double the price then ;)

Hi Bruce, I have this watch, love it and have worn it for the better part of 3 years at this point. Just a quick comment about your review... the movement is not COSC certified on this model. It is laser adjusted in 3 positions and the bezel is not a 120 click bezel but rather 60 clicks. You are correct however in that it is an aluminum bezel. Others have commented on your pronunciation and it is MEE DOH contrary to the way you pronounced it.
@sawiris1234

nice review. One thing to clarify though for the viewers. The chronometer version of this watch or movement is clearly labeled as chronometer, and it is the ocean star 600 chronometer which runs at almost twice the retail of the ocean star 200. The 200 is not a chronometer and probably the source of confusion arises from Mido's web site for the 200 where they say that the caliber 80 comes in a chronometer variation, but that does not imply that this specific watch is a chronometer. The chronometer movement is (base ETA C07.821) COSC and the movement on this watch is (base ETA C07.621)

I've always like Mido, but I've never pulled the trigger on one. Perhaps because Oris or Sinn, or Fortis, or a number of other brands which are equal to or while slightly more expensive, offered more for what I was looking for. Now that most of these brands have been steadily increasing their pricing...think Seiko..I will likely take another look at Mido again. Would I rather buy a Seiko Sumo or Mido? I'm thinking Mido might win this choice. Mido is in a tough price category

I have a Mido Ocean Star in Titanium w/ an orange rubber strap. it carries the same adjustable clasp & i think the pop of color w/ the orange rubber & orange pops on a muted gray dial looks good. When you add Titanium, solid finishing, 80 hrs power reserve & the skeletonized hands doing well not to obscure the Day Date window in use. I'd say Mido hits out out of the park for Value & Quality & certainly an undervalued watch company. i also have a Mido Belluna (version 1) that's got hints of Glaschutte Originals PanoReserve in it's design asthetic & look more impressive for the $700 you pay for them.

I'm a big guy so usually 22mm straps are my preference, but here... I think it throws off the proportions to the watch on the wrist. The thinner bezel and case profile go against the 'tooly' 22mm strap. On top of that, and it may be my screen, but that dial is dirty... there seems to be smudges and dust under the glass on the hands and indices. Again, may be me or just the glass on the top, but disconcerting nonetheless.

Good value because the movement sounds the same one as my captain cook by rado.the rado being twice the price. Guess you pay a bigger premium for having a more famous brand ? A decent watch for the money, but I'd rather buy a used tag for similar money as it's easier to sell should you get bored. The 1k market is swamped with many manufacturers, it's probably the most competitive market for the average watch collector. So many fantastic brands at this price point.

It seems funny to me that people "need" a ceramic bezel and sapphire glass, etc. What we all need is a watch we like to wear. Not a watch that doesn't show that we wear it. The concerns about these watch details are misplaced. If the watch you will actually wear the crap out of has an aluminum bezel and a plexi crystal then buy that one. No one will care that it is not a ceramic bezel or sapphire crystal. If you have a watch that wears the battle scars and continues to work and look bad ass, then you have won. If the watch says Rolex or Omega or Oris on it, you have really won because you have worn something fully in the moment and not been worrying about the damn watch and its value. People admire watches that show their age and use. The resale market doesn't. But why did you buy the watch? To make a love connection? Or to sell it on after not really doing anything with it? All I look around and see on watch forums is a crapload of watches that people don't wear but they wear out their keyboards talking about what they "need" in a watch when a perfectly good one is already in their possession. And truth be told, a few years ago I would have told you to piss off if you said to me that I needed to spend $1000 on a watch to get one that I could enjoy and take daily hard use. Because I had one on my wrist that was $45 and I really liked it. Chances are that if you are sitting around making a list of what you need in a watch you will never be satisfied. Because what we really will bond with is not usually logical. If I were to look at my own path rationally and logically, I was better off before I started to thinking about making a list of the features I needed in a watch. Buy the watch or watches you are attracted to and wear them. All the time. So much that you forgey they are on your wrist. Then the watch has value because it is part of you and your life. A watch sitting in a watchbox is just money allocated and not used. The bank and the money market are better places for it to do that: to do nothing but to hold or gain value over time.
