Thank you for the very clear verbal description. Acer really made the fan on this model extremely difficult to get to.

Agreed, they made it far too difficult for most users to attempt a repair. Even worse, this model is prone to running hot and will shut down if you're not careful. Also, slightly off topic, but related: Acer only put ONE speaker into the model of 5742 that I had. As a result, audio quality was poor and external speakers were mandatory.

@8:08 when you say there is 7 screws there is actually 8 , I followed your tutorial to deassemble and was basically watching it again to reassemble and I had parted the screws out in bins, not to get confused and to keep them away from my cat. I was stuck for 30 mins on that part cause I was "end of the world freaking out" about the 8th screw until I counted how many you actually removed. Thanks for the tutorial it helped allot.

You are correct, there are 8 screws that you can remove at that point, BUT one of them (oddly, the final one he points to) is actually not holding the top panel in place, instead it's one of two screws securing the motherboard, so if you'd like you can leave that one in while you unplug stuff from the motherboard, and remove it after!

thank you, it was very helpful and informative. finally managed to take this old laptop apart to clean it properly, with some help from my 17 year old daughter and her small hands as my sausage fingers struggled with all those tiny parts 😂

Great video, Thanks...I spilt coffee on my machine and went into strip down mode but stopped...risk of ruining it is as high as coffee ruining it. Going to try rebooting first. 7 yr old laptop still running great, but not worth too much work.! May need to come back to this page.

I have a question - I have two cables one black and one white they come from the screen. How I connect them - which gets there where CH1 is written?
@gStar1211
@gStar1211 3 жыл бұрын
These cables are the antennas for the WiFi module. Look at the bottom, you should see some gaps between two black plastic dots, the cables have to fit between them and they should go to the bottom of the plastic case. There sits the WiFi module, the black cable goes to "1", the white to "2" on the WiFi module. The module can be accessed through the bottom of the laptop, there is a small cover that sits directly above the module. Hope I could help! :D Good Luck!

Awesome stuff. This will be very useful for when I have to disassemble my 5742. I have had to buy a new laptop after my 5742 got really hot with overheating issues. It's been running warm ever since it was 10 months old... There are various reports on the web of the 57xx's getting hot, and I believe that new thermal paste will be required (I might as well change the fan at the same time). It will be interesting when I have to take apart the 5742... But for now, I'm using a HP 15 which doesn't get anywhere near as hot. Acer 5742 used to regularly go into the 70's, frequently into the 90s and occasionally hit TjMax (105). HP 15 has been up to 81'C (before it throttles back - and with the HP, the temperatures do recover to about 60-70'C) and the TjMax is 100C, which it will never get anywhere close to.

spotify95 hi, how's your 5742? Still working?
@TheSpotify95
@TheSpotify95 3 жыл бұрын
@@RTDe-fz1uy Hi, no longer have the 5742 unfortunately, I sold it on a couple of years ago due to it being surplus to requirements. I didn't take it apart in the end, because everything I could do on the 5742, I was (and still am) able to do on my HP 15-ac153sa laptop instead. I also recently cleaned and renewed the thermals on the HP, and it was an awful lot easier than the Acer - no motherbard removal required. Temperatures no longer get very high, and peak at about 75'C (though normally stays at 70'C max even under full load).

God bless you, Acer Travelmate 5742G laptop When I turn it on, sometimes a black screen appears after it works, and sometimes a blue screen says there is an error in the screen program, and sometimes it works for a quarter of an hour and turns off again. What do you think is the reason? I subscribed.
