Nice video! Just want to break the negative rumors about Sultan of Brunei, he is very kind and give us locals alot of benefits, which include but not limited to: 1) Free healthcare, from mild cases like coughing, to severe cases like cancer or whatever. If the medical equipment in Brunei is not sufficient, you can get sent to overseas for medical treatment for free, no charge at all. 2) Monthly Allowance for old people 60 years and above 3) Monthly Allowance for people with disabled family 4) Allowance for widowed (not sure for how long, maybe first few months or so) 5) Free educations from primary school to secondary, and even University as long as you pass the minimum grading for A-Level exam. Instead of we, the citizen, paying for University, we got monthly allowance instead. Thats right you read that right, we literally got paid to attend university lol. I even majored in Engineering thanks to His Majesty and now employed in one of Global top 3 Oil and Gas Industry 6) Free brunch for primary school students 7) Subsidies/discount for necessary foods such as rice, sugar and so on 8) Subsidies to Fuel petrol for cars 9) Housing system for all the locals, if you have low income, you can still pay minimal monthly to have your own hous, as low as 75 USD per month. There might be few people with poor living condition but its becos they are late to be discovered, and once we discovered it, they will be helped instantly. In other words there are no homeless in Brunei 10) and many more

the reason public transport is almost non-existent is because most bruneians own at least 2 cars becos the cars is cheap, and the petrol is cheap. therefore the demand for public transport is low, making taxis expensive here. I recommend you to rent a car for the week if youre foreigner. Also personally Brunei is pretty basic lifestyles, with all the benefits given to us, peaceful, low crime ratee, low natural disaster and so on. To me Brunei is a basic, and great country, suitable to raise a family, in long term, rather than a place for tourist industry (not yet at least, there are something new hidden here and there but yea maybe better in the future).

I definitely don’t want to disrespect you at all however Australia has most of those things also if not all of them and while our government isn’t perfect, we don’t have the types of extreme penalties potentially given for things I believe people should be allowed to do, like marry the person you love regardless of their gender. Everyone is allowed their own beliefs, and I respect yours especially since you said it in a respectful way! 😊 But I personally can’t ignore the brutal consequences that could still given to people in this day an age, even if all of the above is given.

I'm Bruneian. I've read a few of bad comments about my country. Boring, nothing good, etc2. Brunei had a special things on its own way. And we as citizen loved our country very2 much esp our King. Do you know how much a cancer patient or any other sick citizen to pay to treat their sickness? Its all Free. For a patient that need to go oversea for treatment, all cost will be paid by the government and for the a person ie wife or husband that accompany the patient while treatment oversea will be given an allowance and free hotel accommodation while the treatment going on until they both back to Brunei. Education is free for citizen. Even those students who go to government college or Uni will be given a monthly allowances from the government. If you work with the government and you wish to send your children to private school not to the government school. You may do so and government will pay back all your money that you pay for your children to study at the private school. Student that study oversea will be given a monthly allowance throughout their course. So do in service citizen that study oversea. Citizen at the age of 60 years old will start to receive monthly pension allowance for life. For low income citizen they can apply and the government will pay the family about bnd250 to bnd1000 per month as incentives . Cheap housing scheme for citizen and permanent resident of Brunei. And many more from the government of our beloved Sultan. What else? Brunei is one of the most safest country in the world. You can just walk around the city from day time to night time till the next morning without worry, and you will back to your house in one piece, i guaranteed nothing will disturb you. No income tax in Brunei. One more, every 4 years for the citizen that work with the government, you can bring all your family ie your wife and children for vacation to any countries all over the world and all pay by the government. But if you plan not to go, you can just keep the money for other uses. I'm proud to be Bruneian.

They are certainly good things about Brunei! Australia also has some if not most of those things! I will say that while I agree that everyone should have access to these things you’ve stated, and Brunei is lucky to have these things, there are still laws and potential punishments for things I just cannot agree with. But, I had nothing but a good experience in Brunei and the people did nothing but look after us and I have nothing bad to say about my visit! Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with a laid back town 😁 😊😊

@@josieliftsthings abt the sharia law that been applied to our country Brunei. Been years now, not even once someone hand had been chop off or someone had been stone to dead. You need to understand how this law work and when you understand it then you can see the beautiful of this law. For example. Its like the Russian that own nuclear bomb. As all nation knew that the Russian had a nuclear bomb, no one dare to go to Russia an try to attack them. That because people knew they own the most powerfull bom in the world. And until now, did you ever heard the Russian use their nuclear bomb against other countries that include Ukraine. Never right. So the Sharia Law is like the Nuclear bomb. It prevents the criminals to attempt doing any wrong doing. This law make the criminals think 10 times before try to commit crime. That why Brunei is now one of the most safest country in the world. Same goes to the countries that applied Sharia Law. For the lgbt we still had this people in our country but yet they still safe from the law if they do their thing not open in the public. The law is more like a prevention so that this bad thing won't develope become big problem. And we as citizen and all the people living in Brunei, muslim or non muslim really happy when this law was applied as it increase our safety to the very highest level so that we can live happier and peaceful here in Brunei Darussalam. I don’t personally respect people living in fear (including LGBT people) of in my opinion, out dated and barbaric consequences just for loving who they love. I understand you are saying it is a deterrent, or prevention as you say but I do not believe of any punishment for someone just to show affection to someone they love. I understand this is against what you believe, but I do not believe in living in fear of being killed, or amputated or stoned, even if it hasn’t happened yet or that loving someone the same gender as you is a big problem. I’m a big believer on people being allowed to believe different things so you are allowed to believe in this, I just personally don’t and will never believe in these type of consequences anymore in this current world, I think there are more humane punishments now, but we are allowed to be different ☺️🙏🏻

@@josieliftsthings There’s no such thing people living in fear with law. What’s the point of law exist in first place. There’s a reason why it exist in first to scared the criminal away. The reason law is exist to to construct a stability of the nation, without law therefore the country will not fully functional if the citizens didn’t respect or follow the protocol order which has been implemented in the country. Your statements “I don’t like people living in fear” isn’t justifying the problems. Let me give u a example. A country without law where gang rapist, murderer exist, u visit that country and thus ur life ended over there. So what’s your answer to this solution? Nothing, since u pretty much death. The point is this criminal does their fantasy killing sprees whiteout thinking the consequences where they didn’t have to fear of get punishment in their NO-LAW country. So a law is a must, i know u didn’t like the way my government did the law, but it’s a law to prevent our people from the corrupt of Western culture LGBTQ, we may have those people in our country but we didn’t execute to death like that unless they did something disgusting in public. They are fine here just don’t violate the law or trying to spread those western cultures at us. I know this sound’s homophonic but we hate the things they did not the people which is against our religion & cultures. We never acknowledge this behavior in our cultures and we are proud, and to you yes A LAW IS IMPORTANT TO LET THE PEOPLE KNOW HOW DANGEROUS IT CAN AFFECT OUR COUNTRY LEGACY AND HOW TERRIFYINGLY IT CAN BE UNLESS YOU AGAINST.

I am a Malaysian and I hv many2 good memories of Brunei and the Bruneian people. I have lived and worked in Brunei for 5.5 yrs in the mid 90s. I had many friends and I am still in contact wth some of them until now. Whenever they come to KL, they wld normally contact me. We would meet in KL or greater KL area. We get together sometimes wth our kids. Other occasions, we would play a round or 2 of golf here in KL. They are very friendly people. I had so many friends and I was able to speak the Bruneian Malay accent ( fyi, there are quite different fr Msian Malay accent, theirs are very similar to Sabahan Malay accent) while I was there. Unfortunately I hv forgotten most of the words and the accent. For the lack of practice. And btw, my 3rd son was born at Jerudong Medical Center. A very nice hospital.

I'm always worried how it's difficult for most tourists to get around because of the limited public transportation but so glad that Bruneian hospitality never fails! Sadly it's common that a lot of foreigners had misconception about Brunei just from biased news and info from social media. Even my malaysian friends who came to visit me thought Brunei was super-conservative until I show them what Brunei really is. 3 words to describe Brunei: Quiet. Peaceful. Respectful

I am a Malaysian living in Bandar Seri Begawan, and Brunei is quite peaceful tbh.. I have been living there for nearly 4 years and the country's not well known, and the fact you travelled everywhere including Brunei (once again) which is quite impressive.. I have many good and bad memories with Brunei (cause sometime the traffic are slow). It's truly remarkable how your able to go into Kampong air's houses since not many people were invited. Most of the buildings are old, but despite that I enjoyed my time here. I'm really glad I came across your channel, safe travel!

Glad Dayat and family showed a great warm hospitality. That big pea thing is Petai can be found in Malaysia and Indonesia as well. Eaten on its own, with sambal or cooked with sambal and other things. The other kuih or cake was indeed Apam Balik similar to Malaysia's but I think those were the modernized hip fillings. Anyway, glad you sincerely enjoyed Brunei.

I’ve recently moved to Brunei from the UK and it was a big change,I cried a lot and the rules are.. so and so.Girls have to have their clothing bellow your knees and u can’t show shoulders but over all Brunei is lovely,since I moved here because of my dads work so I we live in a international town?where it’s not just locals there are ppl from all around the world and in his town we can wear shorts and tank tops.. just not in important places. @@josieliftsthings let me tell you about riding boat, one day i was riding boat which call Perahu, so.. I put my hand under the water, and the croc saw us and my hand still under the water and the croc was having no interested in us😂😂😂 maybe bcs i annoyed them with saying Hi and Bye to each croc.. They only stared at me.. I said to mama croc like this: "hey mama! Ur babies are cute!😭😭😭🥺🥺🥺 The mama was like just ignored me.. It hurt💀😂😂

The large pea pod thingy contains edible and oversized discoid seeds called petai. It’s often cooked in sambal sauce and has a strong pungent smell, not so much when you eat it but when you sweat or pee later. You can smell the petai whiff!! 😂 It’s very yummy! Definitely popular in south east asian cuisines, especially along the Malay archipelago.

Well Charles, ik why u haven't met any probocis monkey.. I myself too haven't met.. Bcs my father once said this tyoe of monkey, u can only hear their sound while u hiking.. It is because this monkeys are the shy one... Although it look fierce, but it is wary and shy of people.. So when i was hiking with family, we only hear their sound.. It creepy tho.. Due to the echoing.. Haha

I actually kinda like Brunei. Its a nice change of pace from where I currently am which is Singapore. People there are not rude, they are not always rushing to be somewhere, the roads are almost empty, cars are cheap.

We usually cook the seeds with some sambal (+ prawns or anchovies) or simply eat them raw as salad...I personally like em, but some people don't because of its smell after eating...🤭

@@josieliftsthings they have those petai things in Malaysia too. You need to go to pasar tani (farmers market) or if you're in one of the better Westernised supermarkets (like Ben's Grocers or Tesco) they normally have them pre-packed. Just ask the supermarket staff.

What could be a better day than seeing long-nosed monkeys, crocodiles and the warm welcome of the locals. The ecosystem here also seems a bit strange where humans and crocodiles are living together. I think the place can be considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

@@micahtedk No, only people with close minded will think that, crocodiles live way before the people even born. For the monkeys, do you realize there are lot of trees being cut down and forests are being demolished for the benefit of people and yet complain why are the monkeys loitering around. Don't provoke or come near the crocodile lives. It's easy as that.

The big pea looking thing is called petai. The desert shown at time stamp 20:50 is Kueh Malaya. It's other name is Apam Balik, basically its a turn over pancake. There're different versions of it in South east Asia. Some are crispy shell variety, some are fluffy type. The old school combination of stuffing for the fluffy shell type is condensed milk, sugar, peanut and raisins. My preference is crsipy wager thin ones, smeared in butter and peanut bits. I don't think this version is sold in Brunei.

Yes, Kuih Melaka is the same as Apam balk in Malaysia. Babu Cantik (pronounced as Ba-boo Chaantiq) is just the name of the shop, which means beautiful aunt/old lady; meant to be taken playfully.

Ive been to brunei on stopovers, only stayed in airport. Its a small country within Malaysia, a monarchy. The airline is pretty good. The quality of food is always top notch.

Nice vlog🥰!!!!! Thank you for visiting brunei. We actually have many interesting places to visit it Brunei, such as: 1. Yayasan Food street (in front of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque); Only open on Wednesdays to Sundays (3pm-10pm). More food choices, more entertainments, hence, more hectic! 2. Temburong (The Green Jewel of Brunei). Here, we have The Outward Bound where you go for rafting, flying fox and etc. 2nd, The Abode (Eco-resort), Mini Zoo and more. You can go to Temburong by speed boat or SOAS bridge (longest bridge in Southeast Asia) 3. You can enter the mosque! The outside is already appealing but I think the inside is much better. To enter, you need to cover up, "jubah" like a dress, will be provided 4. On Sundays, from 7am to 10 am, Roads in Bandar would be closed for cars but open still open by bicycle/walking. During this time, we have "Bandarku Ceria" (My happy Capital). Again, many food choices, activities, thrift stalls and etc. Many people exercising too! Fresh air, since there are no vehicles going around 5. The Empire Hotel & Country Club, biggest resort in Brunei. Also, so many things to do here! For a 7-star hotel + good facilities & hospitality, the hotel is rather cheap but still cost quite some money😅 Really cool place There's many more but I'm just gonna 5. Oh and also, precovid, Istana Nurul Iman (palace) is open every year during Syawal month (Eid celebration) for four days, a very good experience! Just for context, I agree, the night market is quite dull & boring now since there are many night food stalls opened in other places already e.g. Food street, JP food court and from time to time, we have food festivals + people rather visit new places, hence the less hectic night market. Food is the love language of Bruneians😂 Fun fact, idk if you realised but we don't have any really tall buildings since, if I'm not wrong, there's a policy that buildings cannot be taller than the mosque's minaret. Hope your account grows big fast!! Congrats on 70k!

Glad you loved Brunei! If you do come to Brunei again, you need to visit the different part of Brunei. I travel a lot and people tend to have this negative image about brunei. Social media is one the worst platform to get any correct information about anything. There was one Australian couple that i met at Mulu (Kuching), they want to visit brunei and got worried about all this religious rules or punishment they hear from social media. They are not married and worried about not allow to enter Brunei ..hehe.. i giggled and told them that, you can be whoever you are for as long as you don't do any obscene stuff in public..haha... Every country that I have visited, i get that question, so my mission here is to make sure they understand brunei and who we actually are. The big pea in pasar malam/night market is called petai/patai and I’ve never tried it before but I’ve heard people said it makes your breath stinky despite having a wonderful flavour. The kueh malaya is the same pancake as Apam Balik (Malaysia) or Martabak (Indonesia) the names vary in different countries but theyre the same thing (except for the topping ofc). The giant pea is called Petai..usually you cook it with sambal (dried shrimp or fresh shrimps with chili paste and shrimp paste) you can eat it raw dipped with sambal belacan (shrimp paste). It has that bittery and gassy taste, and your pee 'will' have a unusual odour.. Usually, we eat it with rice..Actually the pancake you ate is apam balik and literally the name in brunei is Kuih Melaya (Malaysian Pancake or cake) and the one you pronounced is the name of the stall if not mistaken means beautiful mom's Malaysian pancake 😂 cheers and hope you can visit Brunei again for a great relaxation, confirmed no traffic jams and mostly humble people.. 🙏🇧🇳🙌🇦🇺 p.s. Do try our local delicacie called ambuyat if you decide to come again.. Try at aminah arif..

I lived in Brunei when I was a kid, when we were playing outdoor like soccer in the evening, if the evening prayer starts, which is called waktu maghrib, we stopped for a while until the prayer is finished, then continue again.
