I recently received my Builders License and all i do is watch videos and take notes (along with actually building). This is one of the best basic 101's I have come across. Starting from the ground up, and the detail on the side that adds more detail as we move a long is really the best part of this video. Incredible work. Thank you

Very nice and detailed explanation here, this can easily be a top shelf video just to learn the names of all the members, very instructive. But I don't understand how horizontal forces are dealt with in this design, like an earthquake or strong wind. Each wall can easily change shape to a paralelogram from a rectangle under a side load. If the only thing holding the structure is nails driven from top/sole plates directly into the end grain of wall studs, as an entry/middle level woodworker I have to say that's the worst and weakest joinery you can have in woodworking. I understand this is the cheapest and most industrialized way but just look at how houses built this way collapse during a storm (mostly in US).
@bruniarchitectureАй бұрын
Hey thanks for watching. The exterior wall sheathing will provide shear value to resist wind forces when nailed/installed correctly. A house framed with no sheathing on it has no shear value and thats when everything is weak and can turn to parallelograms like you said. In this case the house has 4 exterior shear walls making it rigid The anchor bolts holding the house down to the foundation and the hurricane strapping would also hold the house down to the foundation.

5:50 a drop beam doesnt end up showing on the lower floor if you put up a plaster false ceiling at its level. This also means you can put extra insulation and noise cancelling layers in the false ceiling
@bruniarchitecture Жыл бұрын
Money spent on that might as well do a larger upset beam
@bruniarchitecture Жыл бұрын
Also if you have an 8’ ceiling dropping the ceiling to 7’-6” would be too low for most people
@nunosilva187 Жыл бұрын

Great video! Are the front and back exterior walls lid bearing? (The walls without doors/windows in your drawing)
@bruniarchitecture3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The bearing walls in this model are the exterior walls where the roof rafters rest and that wall in the middle that cuts the house in half holding up the ceiling joists. The walls without windows will help tie the two exterior load bearing walls together to help with the force of the roof rafters pushing out. Hope that makes sense
