Well, he's not wrong... Maguire's limitations as a player are a huge part of the team's problem (lack of pace means defence constantly sitting far too deep; slow distribution the opposite of how ETH wants to play). But for injuries he wouldn't be anywhere near the team even with the rest of the current squad's shortcomings. And it doesn't make sense to have a captain sitting on the sidelines, so it was quite a logical decision.

I've never been a fan of Fernandes. He shrinks in big moments and (especially on his national squad) he shrinks when paired with really great players. He's been good of late, but like almost everyone at United, he's inconsistent. Some think he's their best player, but considering the performances and results, is that really a compliment? As to his suitability to be captain, his whiny complaining and finger pointing is a far cry from the greats who've held that position in the past.

The limitations of club spend combined with man utds current performances and this stupid fire damage sale is a toxic combination that is the final nail in the coffin, turning Man Utd from a world force to a mid table team. It strikes me that this is not a well thought out plan of transformation but the gut reaction panic of newbie to football who thinks he can bully his way to success in football. He can’t. This move will loose us player value, remove intrinsic value from the balance sheet of the club, while our current performance will mean to attract talent all we can do is pay massively over the odds for any mediocre player that is willing to gamble their future at Man Utd knowing they could well be next summers fire damaged goods. As a United fan I would be disappointed if Bruno leaves, but having said that, we only want players here who are committed, so it's down to him to decide really. Bruno has been good and bad this season, but if you look at the stats closely, his contributions to potential goals is very high, regardless of his overall gameplay. INEOS should look to build a team around Bruno that can benefit from his passes and vision, but I also think we need to find ourselves a real captain, someone of Roy Keane's ilk, or something close to it. I don't think Bruno should be our captain moving forward, it's just a distraction for him.
