I just made this, and it's amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing! I grew up in GA and have struggled to find a good Brunswick stew that didn't have lima beans or potatoes. This just takes me right back to eating BBQ with my grandparents!

I make my Brunswick stew in the winter time usually. It's great on a very cold day! I freeze left over bbq pork, chicken...and veggies from our garden, during the summer months. When winter comes around, time to clean the freezer...for stews such as Brunswick! Usually, the only thing on the list of ingredients, that I have to run out and buy, is potatoes and lima beans. It's a good way to use up leftovers , like your bbq pork, chicken...and veggies. I make this every year. We love it. can't hardly wait, for winter time to get here! I'm going to try your recipe! I've heard of adding bbq sauce to the recipe, but I never have.

I’m so excited to make this!!! As many other commenters, I grew up about 40 miles N of Atlanta. Of course, growing up in GA, meant I grew up on 😋Brunswick Stew. I’ve been in KY for nearly 18 years & no one here has ever heard of it, they all eat burgew, which I think is 100% different. The recipe we used calls for ketchup, but I’m going to use the crushed tomatoes. Thank you so much for the video, it’s so matter Of fact and not a lot of blah, blah, blah, straight to the point!

Great recipe Lynn! It reminds me of the best Georgia style stew they once served at the old Melear's BBQ in Union City GA. We also tried it with a little hot sauce as suggested and a bit of Liquid Smoke. Any advice on trying to prepare a smaller quantity for a smaller family of say 4 family? Don't mind some good leftovers, but have limited freezer space.

Same here. I use ketchup mustard (spicy) and brown sugar to make the bbq sauce and a little more vinegar with white and apple cider vinegar, and its essentially the same. Being a GA boy, I hate seeing all these new BBQ restaurants TRYING to serve Brunswick stew and calling it authentic. They are putting all kinds of things in. Brunswick stew was traditionally made in the fall and winter when they had hog killings when no other veggies except maybe fall corn was available,

From GA to VA, I've been lucky enough to have Brunswick Stew throughout the south and beyond, also a lot of things "called" brunswick stew, but your dish/recipe looks like the closest thing I've seen to some of the best stew I ever had at the long past Melear's BBQ in Union City GA. The biggest difference is that they used smoked chicken and pork. Have you ever tried adding a small amount of Liquid Smoke to your recipe or instead using BBQ/smoked meats?

Your stew looks pretty close to the one my granddad used to make. But he use 3 types of meat and sent it all through a hand crank meat grinder (along with the veggies) after boiling it. I have the same food processor as you and had planned to use it. Who has a meat grinder these days?

Strange as it may seem, It doesn't look any different in the bowl as it did in the pot.

I didn't mean to imply that there was anything wrong with the presentation, only that when most others "plate up" a dish, they try to make it more appealing, like using a fancy dish, garnish, bread side, etc. This recipe looks more like a hearty soup (which I would thoroughly enjoy) than a stew.
