Hey great job on that tank. Since you're a brush painter I thought you should know a few things. First is that Tamiya acrylics are solvent based and water isn't really a good thinner for them. You might get better results with Tamiyas acrylic thinner, or my favorite Tamiya lacquer thinner. You did say in the video you dont like the smell of the thinners so in that case if you have them in your area you should definitely try Vallejo paints. They are water based acrylics and brush beautifully thinned with a little water.

@@Modkits131 oh it definitely did come out great looking. I've heard from others that have thinned Tamiya acrylics with water that it turns into a really weird consistency. Luckily it looks that didn't happen for you. Keep up the good work!

One point of critique : an East-German tank would only look this weathered after being out of service and stored for 10 years or more . Their tanks never saw combat, the only "battles" were exercices, after which no doubt they were thoroughly cleaned. Especially as they had to be in pristine condition for the many parades.

I built the Israeli version supplied in this kit but the problem is the kits details are way to thick. Like the headlight guards and other rails. You would make this a lot better by buying a eduard photo etch t-55 set to get rid of the ugly thick parts. I also replaced the machine guns with some legend productions guns and the miniart T-55 working tracks (which are worth the $12, cheap!) which reallly made it look much better

It's a real shame they don't allow any vertical elevation or movement of the gun on such a model - it's not a kit I ever plan to build, but if I had this 1/35 I'd want a bit more than a glue fixed gun, such as is possible with the Tamiya 1/35 Matilda for instance.

So you're building up thing coats while wet, not drying between? How long do you wait after the base color is done to dry brush and do color modulation?
@Modkits131
@Modkits131 2 жыл бұрын
What you’re referring to is wet blending. Where you blend two paints while the previous one is still wet. I was doing the over brush technique where I have my paint thinned down and I remove the excess on a paper towel. With it being very similar to dry brushing I sweep the brush over large areas on top of the model, while ignoring the small highlight details. As you’re familiar with dry brushing. I roughly have to wait at least 10 to 20 minutes before the base is fully dry. Give it an hour to dry if you want to be sure. I hope this helps, sorry I couldn’t get to you earlier. :)

Hello, did you ever had experience applying varnish using the brush? I'm thinking about getting VMS varnish HD in satin to apply it over the model to blend in the decals nicer but i don't own an airbrush. I'm not sure how the varnish will apply with it, since i can only find videos of it being applied using an airbrush.
@Modkits131
@Modkits131 Жыл бұрын
I would first make sure VMS varnish is capable of being applied with water/thinner. For example, I’ve tried using AK interactive’s flat varnish and it completely ruined one of my synthetic brushes. So be cautious. Tamiya, Citadel and Vallejo have been my go to varnishes for brush application as they can be thinned with just water.
@Peri1ca
@Peri1ca Жыл бұрын
@@Modkits131 Thank you very much for the info and quick reply. Unfortunately out of Satin varnishes only Vallejo has products selling locally in my country. Also priming the model isn’t always necessary. I recommend you clean the model with soap and water with a brush and leave in the model kit box to let it dry overtime or anything else that will protect your model from oily fingers and dust. :-)
