This was a technique I came up with some years ago (found out later it already existed) to mash fast for a strat in Cuphead called star skips and I've got to use it in a bunch of different games, even recently in a SNES game Arcade's Revenge where I did a left hand piano grip, ring and middle finger on Dpad to move left and right, pointer finger reached across the controller to press jump and then mashed shoot with this technique using my right hand. I always called it sliding but like you said I think the LTTP people have been doing it since forever ago and I forget what they call it as well lol. Great technique though, and compared to other mashing techniques I've used, this one feels very sustainable and easy on the hands.

Two in the front, but not one in the back. Got it.

This probably works better with Gameboy round top buttons on the NES controller

+1, came to endorse this. I've ran over 100 NES games and I use an NES brick with gameboy buttons in it, and I cannot recommend it enough.

I use a technique similar to this to zohdin pump, and I can 30hz mash (literally perfect) semi-consistently. I think my best is like 128/129 frame perfect presses. So basically a little over 2 seconds of frame perfect mashing (except for 1 frame)

I did 351 or 355 in 10 seconds on my Shooting watch with a similar tech a few years ago. So 35+ per second. Not too hard with a bit of work.

Very nice! I was wondering, have you given this technique a name? It seems to be known by several communities but has a different name for each one. Also, were you the first to do it?

Would baby powder or chalk on the fingers be a good thing? EDIT: I realize it would slowly build up inside but I care more about my delicate old man fingies than having to blow out the controller.

I don't know, but I can confirm the technique is way better on the hands than the standard way.
