I agree with the assessment. Like the j-3 cub,super touchy. Not a first plane,Flies well as scale flyer.And learning to land a little heavier plane under power.an ok second step plane.from a fellow beginner.

Just pulled the trigger thru your link! Always loved this Bird, & bought the Rage R/C micro- version, with flaps & retracts!? The problem with it also lays with the quality of the RTF radio included. It is very hard to fly, & needs a better TX upgrade! Since this model tends to be pitch sensitive, have You considered moving the servo clevis more inward? I don't know if the servo arm allows this, & also the arm on the elevator itself?? She is a beauty & I couldn't help taking advantage of Your discount code. When u fly it ….i don’t know if u have flown xk brand but when u goin thru the flight modes do each one in high rate and low rates …if you got it in 3d mode with high rates that should give you full mobility in the air …I’ve seen these videos of ppl flying and they having trouble getting it to roll or loop …haven’t seen it yet …I owned the j3 cub and absolutely loved it and never had a problem with it

Both FMS and Eflite had a Staggerwing a couple of years ago. They both had retracts and looked like nice models. There were some beautiful airplane designs in the 30's and 40's.

Love this plane. One of my favorites in flight simulator. Don't know if it may fly a tad better with the gear off. The full scale was designed with retracts and Flys with them up. Supper excited about this one. It's a must have for me. Thank you both.

Thank You for the demonstration. I had to try this model and ordered before I saw your review. I like the look, especially at slow fly-by in calm wind. The elevator is squirrely and the plane tends to go crazy with the gyro off, but fun to try with sufficient attitude. I noticed a lot of flex in the elevator control rod so I'm adding some tubing in the rod path. I'll also adjust the servo rod radius and elevator horn to reduce the range.

Great review. As a semi retired toy maker I know sometimes products will hit the market without perfection in mind.. Not in a bad way though.. This airplane is a perfect example of that. My guess is that they weren't going for the best flight experience in its class necessarily, just making a cool plane at an entry level price.. You both did a great job showing and describing what to expect... Camera work was superb and I totally got what you were saying while you were flying and giving your final thoughts.. Nailed it!

Nice review and video. A lot has comment on the controller board gyro and too sensitive issue. I love this plane and bought it too ;-) One sad point from these new series of XK planes are, the seems like not make have it multi-protocol 4-in-1 compatible, or at least the same implementation like previous model with add-on Rx via SBUS compatible Rx. So we can use a full hobby grade Tx like the RadioMaster Tx. Talking about Eachine 761 series of planes, I did flew under expert mode from time-to-time, but surely bound with my RadioMaster TX16S, the stock Tx resolution too low, hard to fly with expert mode.

That's what I was gonna say. And trim the elevator down in the back with a razor knife and use a red sharpie on the white foam where you cut. Try 1/4 or 1/2" at first.

You can definitely move servo linkage in a couple of mins to make it less sensitive...maybe best to convert to fly on your hobby grade radio..

Looks so beautiful! It is just a small scale plane that will turn heads. I like XK planes a lot. They are very good value for your money. This one sees to be bringing the brand to a more mature era with better quality builds. From my A100 to the VTOL models, they are my "A MUST" flyers for weekends. Been flying for 40 years and these mini foam planes have brought a different dimension to the hobby in being practical and fun.

That's a cool little plane. If they sold it without transmitter I would buy one for sure. I have like a drawer full of XK transmitters, what a waste.. The eachine little mini warbirds are great because you still have to buy them RTF but at least you can dump that transmitter if you have a multi-protocol setup like a Radiomaster, etc. Takes a bit of tuning but the little P-51 can do lots more then it can with that transmitter. When will these manufacturers learn. Maybe someone will figure out the protocol and it can be flown with a decent transmitter.

Sort out the elevator linkage check your CG and trim the plane! Bind it to a Radiomaster , the last XK plane the A280 P-51 works with protocol V911S subprotocol E119 on my Boxer 4 in 1 and flys a dream!

Back in the early 90's Tri-state hosted an airshow and one of the participants had a Staggerwing and it was painted red also. They were selling rides in it and I got to take a ride. Hi, Again..., So I have bought several of the under $100.00 mini warbirds, P-51 x2, F4u Corsair, also the coolbank piper J-3 cub, and my latest one is the a300 d-17 staggerwing beech.. I got the yellow one and I am in the process of cutting ailerons in the top Wing, and connecting them to the bottom ailerons.., It should have an awesome roll rate, cant wait to finnish it and get it in the air for testflight!! 🙃😁😀

Everyone that is into these micro planes just buy a radio master or other multi protocol radio..of coarse that radio has hardly any expo...i have f22 and i just switch off gyro and do some rolls etc..need switch gyro back on so i don't crash...

Most of the time you can bind these to a 4 in 1 multi protocol radio or module. Even the little Eachine/Rage RC warbird planes can bind to those. You can reduce the sensitivity of the elevator by moving the rod down a hole or two on the servo arm.

Well, I always considered fancy radios that allow for expo & etc that make controlling the plane easier as cheating much like using software to calculate the area under a curve instead of learning and using integral calculus thus for me the radio is not an issue and the issue goes away once you actually learn to fly the plane under its idiosyncratic geometry and characteristics. I need a new plane in the winter like a hole in my head but I do want a biplane that are second to sailplanes for me so maybe I will buy one in spite of spending my Christmas money on a new RS 918 amateur radio transceiver.

You can hook up a spektrum satellite reciever to the 3v port on the the gyro control board and fly with your spektrum trasmitter. The ailerons are really lazy. I cut out the top wing ailerons and conbected them with the botton ailerons using a small plastic control horn and guitar wire. It is so much better. Will roll really well.

If you get a radiomaster TX16S you can bind to pretty much any 2.4 ghz protocol including the toy grade protocols (and also spectrum, frsky, etc)

I bought the UMX Pits Special and I've been so busy I haven't had time to bind it up and fly it. I just keep flying my Sport Cub S1 and my Conscendo, (Easy plane to fly and looong flight times. But my all-time favorite airplane from the thirties is the Beechcraft Stagger Wing. This is the nicest affordable version I've seen. Waiting to see if changing the elevator pushrod placement makes it fly easier.

I bought the $45 trans, later I found out it won’t bind to the Beech. You have to buy another receiver to match up.i did buy it but haven’t installed it yet. Btw, the new radio does however bind to a lot other Xk war birds , not this one, bummer.

I had an XK mustang that porpoised but I "modded" replacing the electronics. I wondered if changing the trim on the elevator could have helped with the porpousing , Edit I don't think I have a smooth enough landing area for it. I like to take the landing gear off and belly land the light planes in grass and biplane would look weird without the landing gear.

I have a question regarding on how to assemble it with the servo connector, as you can see there are 3 holes there in the tail rudder and the aeleron, which hole should I choose to put the servo wire or steel to steer?

Assemble it without connecting the connector and power on without the prop so you can center the servo. Pick the hole closest to it being centered. I know some people like TailHeavy likes to go as far as possible so you can get the maximum throw/steer. I would probably go to the closest hole once mine comes in or pick the middle one.

Can you access the flight control board on this plane, and if so, does it have a DSM port? I have the XK A160 J3 Cub, and have bound a Spektrum DSM satellite receiver successfully to it and use my Spektrum NX6 with it. It makes a world of difference.

@JaiKun-ts1ue..I always put the wire in the hole closest to the aileron, rudder or elevator, then put the other end of the wire on the outer most servo arm, @ the receiver.., That way you get the most travel from the servos..., Unless You are a beginner RC Flyer.., If so do the opposite put the wires on the outter most holes, on the ailerons, rudder and elevator.. then @ the receiver servos, put the wire on the inner most hole on the servos.., that way the plane will fly more forgiving, makes it eaiser to fly, for Beginner RC Pilots.. Just remember you also have three flight mode's on the transmitter, beginner, intermediate, and 3d mode, the last two are for more expert flyer's, that is if you are using the transmitter that came with the plane??... Hope My advise help's you out???? 😁😉
