Besides removing the maturing filer, how do you address the algae on the outflow? I usually dip my hose brush into liquid carbon (Excel) and clean the inlet/outlet with that followed by a thorough rinse.

Great video George! I have a patch of algae in the front left corner of one of my tanks in the Helanthium tenellum carpet. I was sick in bed last week and found the cause! The afternoon sun comes through the window behind the tank and shines a beam of sunlight directly on that spot for a good while after the lights are out for the day. Thank goodness for being sick and missing work now I have something blocking the window and I can hopefully fix that corner now

Those cherry shrimp are amazingly large and beautiful. What variety are they? Bloody Mary or some other variant? And how old are they - I kept noticing how robust they are.

Staghorn - mostly co2/circulation issues as you said. My friend had this problem incrwasing co2 dosage helped to solve.

If you have algae problems perform the following: 1) Reduce Light intensity + duration to 6 hours 2) Large water change 3) Increase CO2 level + Fix diffusion method/flow issues 4) Add hydrogen peroxide at night when light is off 5) repeat water change following day. 6) repeat steps for 1 week and it will resolve.

Just a small corner with sand, very odd and unbalance looks. if me i will extend the whole front wall with 1 cm sand from front wall. Just my personal opinion. good tips George 👍

Exactly my thought… this left corner is sticking out like a sore thumb at the moment. Balancing it by adding a little more of the red sand in the foreground would improve the whole scape in my opinion.

Hi George in my opinion and experience, nobody really knows why staghorn and brush algae appears ...there is only theories ("low co2", not true because there is aquariums with over 30ppm co2 and staghorn....or "high iron", not true because there is staghorn and brush algae free healthy tanks with 0-3-0.5ppm Fe ..or Ca/mg maladjustment ...or "hardwater", not true because happens in soft or hardwater...at the end, only theories ) but nothing seriously scientific. But "seems" those algaes likes the high flow zones.. In the case of Staghorn, in my experience is more comoon during the second month in news aquariums and then dissapears to the third month if plants are healthy. Regards from Chile
