I disagree that this is brutal news for the Vikings or even JJ himself. He will have the opportunity to sit for a year and absorb and learn. There will be no pressure for him to start as a rookie. Next season he will have a full year under his belt. It may help his development in the long run. Just look next door in Wisconsin how good Jordan Love is after having time to develop. Stay positive.
@marcusgarcia50892 ай бұрын
Agreed. My goodness he's talking about this kid like he's dead.
@Just_AnotherDude2 ай бұрын
Yes, but the biggest reason JJ was going to need to sit this year was the fix physical mechanics, not mental. Its hard to fix mechanics if you can't practice or play. But this just confirms that Darnold is unquestioned starter and JJ gets his redshirt year.
@ryankreidermacher98082 ай бұрын
He might have had the chance to sit a year anyways. There is also a big difference between sitting and practicing and sitting and not being able to take any reps.

"A repair was necessary" would have been better phrased "A repair was possible". The alternative was a repair was not possible and they had to remove the torn meniscal fragments. Much shorter recovery time but more dire long term consequences. The repair will be much better for McCarthy and the Vikings down the road.

@mt_baldwin2 ай бұрын
There's no positive spin for this. He's not going to get anywhere near as much learning and experience as would have if he were QB2. His development is basically in stasis. He won't be practicing during the year, sitting in on film and game prep, he won't be down on the sideline listening to every play call through a headset. Now he's just a spectator with a great seat and not an active part of the team like a QB2 is.
@Jdoesvids2 ай бұрын
He'll have the chance to get the mental aspect of the nfl down, and he'll have January through June to fix any last mechanics issues he has. The only real negative I see from it is he's not going to get the growing pains out til next year, but he's the youngest QB of the draft so in the end this doesn't prevent him from being a great QB in the slightest
