Hey from Scandinavia )) I suggest to Ben to use skipoles when doing hill fartlek ..this will engage more muscles upper body and enhance cardiovascular load as well as unloading of the strain on the injured leg 😅😅

for the 2/1 farlek its about 10k effort, how would you go about the 1/1s and 3/1s?? for example in 3/1s do I also maintain 10k effort but jog slower in the recovery phase? how do the kenyans typically execute them

Sorry to be a bit pedantic but any session where the duration of both the number of hard efforts and the recovery between them is determined in advance is an interval session and not a fartlek? Certainly nothing like the original conception of fartlek -"speed play"- as created in Sweden in the 1940s. Whatever, really good to se you back running pretty hard, Ben. Hope the rest of the recovery process goes as well as these early stages.

Yes I agree. The only thing I can think off is that the interval length varies from session to session, Tuesday is 1/1 and Thursdays maybe 3/1. But for a true Swedish speed play, the on sections of the workout will vary in duration.

I believe it was caused by racing to frequently as well as training with high intensity between races. I simply didn’t respect the recovery time needed after a hard 10k before racing 2 half marathons back 😂

I used to do 4:10 per kilometer, but when I stopped for a month, it was difficult to do 5:00 per km. Is this really normal?

I’ve got no idea. If I did absolutely no exercise for a month then I’d expect to see a deterioration in my running performance. I’m sure if you get back into it you’ll quickly see a return of fitness
