I saw this fight on TV in 2014. Golovkin had stopped his last 15 opponents going back to 2008, the last seven in defense of the IBO world middleweight title. GGG won the vacant title in 2011 against Lajuan Simon a 23-3-1 Philadelphia fighter who had faced several top ten middies and had never been stopped. Golovkin's left hook separated Simon from his senses in the first round and Simon only fought one more time before retiring. Golovkin's detractors say he did not face enough top level opponents, but I think he often destroyed his opponents so comprehensively that although they had been excellent fighters with serious prospects Golovkin took their confidence and their reputations thereby making Golovkin's accomplishments as a champion seem more modest than they actually were. I had forgotten that Ousumanu Adama was as good as he was. He had power, good defense and fought with great bravery--but it took courage to hang with GGG because it was punishing. Adama fought until 2021 but his defeat in this fight definitely took the starch out of him and it's easy to see why. It was tough to be a top middleweight during prime GGG. Adama fought his ass off and had an argument for winning the fifth round but I don't think his corner should have let him get off his stool after the sixth round. People can disagree but I think Golovkin was at least a top ten all time middleweight and I have him fifth all time. There are really only three fighters in the history of boxing who were definitely superior to him at the weight. To be clear part of my assessment is that (like a lot of people) I think he deserved wins in the first two Canelo bouts. Aside from those robberies (especially the first one) GGG defended his middleweight world championship belts successfully from 2011 to 2018 eighteen times, stopping 16 of his challengers usually with extreme prejudice. Only a steroid enhanced Canelo and an overweight Danny Jacobs (who forfeited his opportunity to challenge for the three belts on the scales) went the distance with Golovkin during that run. In fairness his record for consecutive middleweight title defenses should have extended to the end of his career at 23, but Canelo was given an MD and the belts after their second bout. I think Sergei Derevyanchenko has a better argument for having beaten Golovkin than Canelo does so perhaps only to 21 defenses to be consistent. However, there should have been no need to fight Canelo the third time at 40. He did lose that last fight, his last in 2022 but I think it was the only clear and indisputable loss on his record. He was not fast or a big middleweight, but he was remarkably heavy handed. He was technically superb, relentless predatory, and thrilling to watch. He was never knocked down.

Golovkin: the best middleweight in boxing history. Only Monzon comes close, and not even that close. With a streak of 23 knockouts that spanned from 2008 to 2016, Golovkin holds the highest knockout-to-win ratio - 88.1% - in middleweight championship history. Golovkin had one of the most durable chins in boxing history, having never been knocked down or otherwise stopped in a total of 395 fights, 45 as a professional and 350 as an amateur.

I was right, I watched it. What kind of a trash video cuts right to somebody? Getting counted for a knockdown that you don't even have on camera ridiculous
