I love how this is a no bullshit test. No fancy methodology, no funny stuff. Just (basically) unlimited power, continuous free air excursion and letting it work. What I would really like to see is a frequency response measure before and after. Just to see whether the torture test had an effect at all on the woofer.

Since this sub only has 18 mm of xmax is it any good for the lows? Can they get windy?

The 10" 2500 rms variant has 28mm of Xmax. I would imagine that 2 could create some gusts as long as the box is tuned right for it. The price point for the db-sa 310 is good too. 600 bucks. :)

They do have a 10" apocalypse DB-SA 310. It's $600 still, but boasts 5000 Watts max (2500 RMS) and 28 mm of Xmax. I'd imagine 2 of these on a 5K amp will start destroying your car so some bracing may be need. :)

I'd say it's the hardest sensor to do, there are infrared sensors, though they need direct line of sight to the voice coil constantly, which is an issue when Xmaxing. One way to do it could be measure the DC resistance of the sub, as the coil warms the resistance should increase, but it can only be done when no power is being sent to the sub, and could be so sensitive even speaking could throw it off.
