From what I've found those chainsaws should be putting out roughly 4.5HP each. Total of 72hp. Chainsaws typically have a rev ceiling of 12-14k RPM. Probably double that of the original Lada motor. You could change the pulley diameters around on those timing belts. Give it a 2:1 gear reduction. Your output rpm would be 6-7k and the torque would be double.

This is the way. Your main power transfer shaft is way too heavy to get up to that RPM number, so a 1:2 gear reduction is needed. The neatest way to do it is to remove the pulleys altogether and install actual gears. Would probably be easier to balance and they act as a flywheel.

In theory it's indeed 72hp, but there is a loss of power, either by the setup and by the clutch and gearbox. It will be interesting to measure the power output at the wheel! The job is incredible

@PossumSwanger4
@PossumSwanger4 23 күн бұрын
This is true on the exhaust..but if you’re talking about a standard banana pipe like they sell for bicycle engines it really doesn’t do much.. they do however make bigger around ones called buffalo bananas or something like that that are a little bigger on the chamber.. unfortunately true expansion chamber exhaust pipes are kinda pricey..currently looking for an affordable one to just make my own pipe with 😂

You Guys did Stellar, I Love this and I'm seriously Impressed. Comparing it to a 1976 Lada which goes 0-60 mph in 16.6 seconds and You Guys did it in 23.0...6 more engines should put You close to 14.7 seconds... Your torque I think is around 64 lb-ft which puts You under a stock Lada's of 85.56 lb-ft...A true feat of engineering. You Guys used 16 separate air cooled 2 strokes, totaling 928cc... A huge V16 chainsaw engine that is 641 less cc's than the Lada's 1569cc 4 cyl.4 stroke, nearly duplicating the Lada's original performance, that is unreal...Plus the ability to replace just one engine without a complete engine overhaul.. They need a CVT transmission that can keep those engines at top RPM all the time because the torque at low RPMs is basically zero. @@HotGritz910 That is real fabrication How they assembled those chain saw engines together in one unit and got them synchronized and how they adapted it to the car's drive line , Amazing and how they did all the other modifications , One thing that was lacking was proper cooling for the engines because air cooled engines are shrouded to direct cooling air to the engine coming from the flywheel which doubles as a cooling fan and exhaust piping , but anyway , What they did was amazing I'll bet they can build a better car from scratch than you can buy at the dealership Just after I graduated from high school One time in my neighborhood I saw the metal shop teacher and his friend built a hybrid van from scratch which had a lead acid battery pack and a gas powered generator with a high amperage charger to keep the batteries charged to go long distances and was really cool , I don't know when it was ready for the road until about 3 months later I saw it going down the road Whenever they would park to go shopping or something else , They'd leave the generator running to bring the batteries back up to charge

Just a thought, maybe try setting all the engines at tdc, then linking them to the drive link bar so they are on the power stroke together at the same time. Also, that solid steel drive shaft must be really heavy, soaking up power. Maybe a tube would be better? Love this build!
