Ya it really is....I had a couple spots where the tarp would rub on one of the poles.....it made a few holes in the tarp. But I added some boards to stop the rubbing and it has been great.

We have gone through 5-cords so far. 1 1/2 left. Just ordered a tri-axle of logs for this coming season. Price is up $50- from last year. Now, $750-. Should be delivered next month. A typical tri-axle is ~10-cords worth of logs. I sell to my neighbor at cost what we don't cut. We have 35-acres but chose to go this way buying logs for right now. Save the hard woods on our property for when the tri-axle purchases stop or when the price gets ridiculous. 73 "Freedom Through Self-Reliance"

And you need to stack your wood. It dries better when stacked and not dumped. The waters collect toward the bottom…when you get toward the bottom, that’s a more dead of winter time….wet and more green wood. Get it off the ground and stack it so the wind is free to blow around and through it.

Hi guys, I know how cold it is living on top of a hill! We have an open field on the west and you can hear the wind coming before it hits our old farmhouse! We have a lot of Black Locust on our property, sparks have literally flown off my husband’s chain saw! We have burned through about 15 face cords of wood so far! Stay warm looking forward to hearing how the shower works! 👍👍😁

Hello ! I from northern Canada so I know we have to always make sure to put up enough dry wood to last a year then you can cut green and cure it if there is not a lot of dry in your area, where I'm at most years I have access to dry wood only a few kms from home I hauled apx 20 full cord of wood home with my skidoo :) I do cut some green popular to cure its best that way,

I just found your channel when Brooke mentioned yours. I watched all of your content from the beginning. Good stuff. We work the same way except I'm 50 and so far I only have the foundation and two walls framed. My fav moment was the ladder fail. I would totally have done something like that. So far I have torn a rotator cuff and bulged a disk in my back. I'm all healed up and ready to build next month though. 👍

Hey guys, love what you guys do and wish I was somewhere for me where all these soft timbers were the norm. All hardwood here unless you plant a pine plantation and thats gonna grow stunted for how hot n dry it is. One thing gives me a chuckle from a trick I learnt many moons ago, pull the start cord until you feel that the motor/engine as about to jump onto a compression stroke... Then try and start it. I know its cold n stuff, but hopefully this will give you much more success starting on the first five rather than the last fifteen....

When I lived on our farm, this how we heated the house, but we didn’t have snow mobile to haul the logs, we did it by hand. No chain saw, a hand operated saw, no log splitter, we used sleigh hammer. We carried into the house to the wood box and in the morning clean out the ash pit and start the whole process over again the next day. Each step we got heat out of the wood process to our bodies. I really like the way we live now, not going back to the farm.

The snowman 😂😂😂 Jen you’re hilarious lol, Jay l think that you have done everything possible to seal that shower it’s going to last forever, l love those tiles and seeing the copper walls again Jen certainly chose the best, a copper shower head and pipes would finish it off beautifully, I always meant to ask you guys do you live full time in the cabin, or is that the future plan to do so?, and I wonder what (is it Scout)? was looking for when you were cutting the tree up, he was definitely interested in something down there, and keep telling yourselves spring is coming, well it’s meant to be lol, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧

Hey Julie.......glad you got a giggle out of Jens shenanigans, lol. Jen and I spend most of our time at the cabin, I have to go downstate once every week or two and work a little and we go south for holidays and family stuff. I would say it works out to 60 or 70% of our time at the cabin. I'm hoping once the majority of cabin building is done we can make the cabin our full time home. 😊

This is wood gathering and splitting you should be doing in the fall….not when snow falls. The biggest hurdle you have is staying warm and having enough wood. You plan for that early in the fall and into the fall…maybe the first part of December. Always….have enough firewood early on for the winter. Always. And your woodshed needs to be closer to your house. They used to be attached and part of the house/shed….for a reason! Talk to old timers. That’s your best education. They know, then you’ll know…and those after you will know. You shouldn’t need a snow sled to bring your wood to your home. Way too far away.

Listen, those who think that it should of been done, never did install a shower on the budget. For that matter, did they ever own a hammer or chisel? I do think there is a market for snow chisels just about everywhere including snow canaries are trying to find a Biden dollar and go to mexico from there. Their steep roofs are even caving from snow loads. I have around seven or more feet compacted in my yard here in alaska. For the part of alaska I live in, yes I have seen even more and at this time of year alright, but it melts off quickly and will show gravel in just a few days after a big storm.. yes we did get more this winter that has stayed. I have driven all over the part of california affected and never seen more than a winters dusting. I guess I was too hard on Jen with my teasing... I so do apologize for it now.
