I’m 46, I’ve seen a mass rise in the popularity of socialism, communism and anarchy in the last several years, and I don’t think most of that is coming out of academia. I think it’s coming out of the widespread catastrophic deterioration of financial stability disguised by the headline unemployment rate and GDP. For the youngest generations, who bear not all of the financial backwardness, but more than their fair share of it; who don’t remember the last half of the trajectory of the Soviet Union and Communist (in more than name) China, Karl Marx and Socialist thinkers makes sense of their world in the same way they made sense to so many impoverished people at the turn of the 19th C.

It's not that only economic collapse is pushing ppl to this, it's that it makes sense. Look at FDR's new deal; socialism bailed out capitalism. Look at Bolivia under Evo; with socialism he lifted millions out of poverty. All developed nations besides the u.s. have varying degrees of robust social programs and they work. Socialism is not perfect but it works whereas capitalism devours the poor and hoards wealth and power for the rich.
@Abitflippant4 жыл бұрын
I'm 49 and I've seen the same changes you have. And while I remember the lessons of the Soviet Union, I also recognize the current trend of our current free market. Capitalism cannot go unchecked just like socialism can't. The right thing is a combined system with elements of both that is malleable to future changes. Right now our current two party system is a sham for what is truly happening which is the haves are gathering and hoarding the wealth in the industrialize world and social systems are slowly rising the third world out of its horribleness. At some point there will be a redress of the grieviences.
