Could be a fun format if you and George both played this format….the winner is the guy to get to 59 with the least mulligans. Adds a little strategy as to when you use the mulligans.

Spot on. It doesn't quite work as a solo endeavour. Needs the edge of a 1 vs 1. Great concept though. I am left wondering how many I would need to get round my home course in par!

This is really an exercise in understanding shots gained. If Mark Broadie was caddying, that number would be well below 49! The better Wes gets at estimating shots gained, the better the number will be. 1. Off the tee: take slightly more aggressive lines - mulligans for penalties off the tee will be well worth it in the long run 2. Approach: Approach shot proximity is huge. Get used to using mulligans here, especially where wind/lie is not a major factor 3. Putting: Use mulligans here, but only where realistically makeable in a few tries. No point in taking 5 tries to sink a 40 footer. Better to take one or two mulligans on approach to get it closer, and give yourself a better chance in 1-3 putts. Every shot counts (even though it literally doesn’t). Wes went in tilt a few times here. You’re shooting 59 every time, so the mulligan count is literally your score. “What’s 25 mulligans when I already have 22” is like saying “what’s a 75 when I’m about to shoot 72”. 3 strokes is essentially the difference between the top and bottom of the PGA tour. Take your time, lock in, be smart instead of making bad decisions then complaining. Love this series - I would literally watch every episode of this

I honestly I really like this series. I think it really accentuate how difficult how golf is, even for a pro. What seems like the simplest of shots, turn out in fact, to be not so simple. You could hit 10 shots and still end up with the same result as a pro. This makes me as a noob feel much better about my game knowing that you can try the same shot dozens of times and still get the same result. Golf is really unforgiving. I understand this must be really frustrating for you as well, but I think doing this before tournaments can help you as well since you will know how to hit that exact shot again in the real tournament. Thanks for sharing!

@onepoint21
@onepoint21 9 күн бұрын
As someone who has played a very similar game when playing solo, I have figured out a good strategy - and really, it's all about strategy: 1 - Never, ever use a mulligan off the tee. If you hit a bad tee shot, recover and use the mulligans on the green if you need to. This is especially true on par 3s. 2 - Use almost all of your mulligans when putting. Using a mulligan anywhere else could put you in a worse spot than your first shot, and you still may not guarantee yourself a birdie. Using the mulligans when putting will always guarantee the score you're shooting for on that hole (whether it be a birdie or a par). 3 - Using mulligans on chips if you need to. I'd rather miss the green on an approach, and then use a mulligan when chipping. Again, mulligans are best used when you can guarantee your next shot will be better than the first (putts, chips). You can never guarantee this will happen on approach shots or tee shots. George, if you're reading this, help Wesley out. NO MULLIGANS ON TEE SHOTS. Especially if you're as good as Wesley when it comes to getting out of trouble. And yes, this series is fantastic. Your video came out the same day as Grant's 2v2 series, and guess which one I was compelled to watch first? Yours.

In order to reduce mulligans, this is probably the best strategy: 1) Just try to birdie the par 5s, only use a mulligan on the green if it should be a make-able eagle putt. 2) Use mulligans to make sure you get it on the green for par 3s, only use a mulligan on the green for make-able birdie putts. Otherwise just take the par. 3) Mulligan usage on par 4s need to be on the approaches to get to a make-able birdie putt, then use mulligans to get the birdie.

My favorite golf youtube video ever. The 14 mulligans on the par 3 could not be more relatable. Pretty sure the 2nd putt you hit on 18 was the same as the fifth one that went in. Already figuring on how to work this into our golf trips (maybe even par instead of 59)

I think the great thing about doing this as a series is that you will learn the best strategy for using mulligans. I thought Jason Day's original estimate was a joke. I think most of us were surprised at how many mulligans it takes. It isn't like best ball. As we saw, taking a mulligan doesn't even mean you are going to have a better shot let alone score better. Anyway, it will be great to see how your strategy evolves both shot wise and in choosing to take a mulligan. Good stuff!

A series with 3 mulligans per shot…like the same amount of shots team of 4 doing a scramble tournament would take. Really expose the cheating that goes on with my local amateur golfer scramble teams posting up like -16 scores 😂

Hey Bros. I absolutely loved this video and I would love to see more. Please make it a series! As a high handicapper, what's interesting is to see a) how you adjust your strategy and swing on a mulligan, b) how your mulligan strategy will evolve over time, and c) that you're fallible too I bet you break 35 next time by making better decisions.

So interesting to watch. It’s pretty obvious that some shot just don’t fit your eye, considering the misses always seemed to end up in the same place. I’d say a good strat would be to say only 1, max two mulligans per shot. Because either it’s a one off bad swing or for you, the shot is just harder than it looks. Don’t get locked into how easy it appears, accept the results are telling you something. I’m gonna have to remember this when I get mad at hitting bad shots myself. Such a relatable series

Wesley, you might not have been proud of that performance, but it was really fun to watch. As you said, you're breaking new ground and didn't know where to cut your loses at times. It'll be just like all the other 'break' videos... addictive !!!

Love this series! Also appreciate the difficulty of the course to kick it off… I do think that strategically you have to pick the 13 easiest holes to birdie and those are the ones you anchor down on. Then have 1 mulligan per hole for the difficult ones to make sure you par those.
