My uncle was an acquaintance of Rance Howard, Ron's father. Rance came to my uncle's funeral and gave an energetic and powerful remembrance of my uncle. He remained afterward at the simple reception and exuded paternal authority and integrity. He seemed to be the sort of man that every child would want as a father, and I could see why Ron valued his father so much.

Westchester County and Greenwich, Connecticut where the Ron Howard children grew up are communities where extremely wealthy people live. A close friend of mine was a successful casting director working on a movie remake of "The Saint" back in 1994. After a lunch meeting in Moscow, she was killed by a hit-and-run driver after stepping off the curb onto the street. In January 1995, I attended a memorial service for her at Paramount Studios which was well attended by some very familiar faces. What struck my, though, was the realization that, even in that somber setting, movie industry people were networking with each other, looking for that connection, that next job. I assume its only worse in current days, but, still, the ever-present "hustle" is a real turn off in LA.

My kids have been keeping their room clean since they were 4 and 5 years old. They learned to seperate their laundry by color at 3. They pick weeds or deadhead roses in the yard 3 days a week for 15 minutes. They have a chore that takes 1 hour or less 5 days a week. Whatever they choose not to finish has to be done on the weekend. They study 4 days a week, 2 with each other and 2 with us. They are required to read 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week, but my daughter is struggling with reading so she reads for an extra hour on the weekend days. They earn a commission at 1$/chore and they tithe. Being a parent is work and must don't want to put in the work.

Omg! First 8 secs and BDH says someone gave her a script to take home to her dad when she was in preschool. Well, I can attest to this being a thing. When we lived full time in LA, parents were constantly networking on the preschool playground (scripts, investing in projects, asking to audition, etc). I couldn't bring my kids up in that (even though both my husband and I worked in the industry) so we "cashed" in and left to go back to my Midwestern hometown. Fun twist -- my oldest 2 kids are college-aged now, both cinema students, one is headed into getting an MFA in ... ... yes, screenwriting. ;-)

@@robertwiles8106 Not necessarily. Some industries require qualifications to hold any sort of meaningful position. And employment laws at public companies can make it difficult to give jobs to relatives also. I dated the daughter of a big bank CEO. She also worked in the bank, but in a junior position that anyone with decent high school grades could have gotten. So no nepotism there. Also, I guess there is not so much "nepotism", but potential favouritism to friends (as opposed to relations) which is something else that can exist (and probably more related to Ms. Dallas Howard's position). I worked in a bank and the CFO had his friend from college's son come in for 3 working summer internships through his college years. The position did not exist before or since, and was never advertised. Clear favouritism, but nobody - including HR of this big public company - said or did anything about it.

That’s just how it works in every career. If your mom is a sitting Justice of Supreme Court in your State, chances are real good you can get into Law School at a prestigious university. If your dad is COO of any major business, it would be a given that you would get preferential treatment in hiring. It’s always been about who you are, to whom you are related, and who you know. It's interesting how they had such concern of raising the kids in LA. They could have been part of the solution, yet they chose to leave the very town that gave them their wealth and lifestyle.

Looking at who, Howard associated with I think Howard is/was in the 'club'. Many of these 'celebs' have been dealt with. Look up arrested and executed online. Also the YT channel 'Celeb Deaths'. I don't think it's a 💯 accurate but I think the majority of what it reports is accurate. Doesn't disclose the actual COD but very random.

i have always felt bad for people in the business that there are just so many people constantly trying to promote themselves to them and shove scripts in their faces. but on the other hand i also always wonder how many amazing scripts or great actors or directors there are out there that just never got an opportunity because they couldnt get anyone to see them or take a chance on them. i wish he had the nerve, i wish A LOT more actors etc.. had the nerve to just flat out say i had to leave because Hollywood is a hotbed of absolute insane liberalism.
