BSA B31 Part 22 DIY Electronic Ignition for Magneto - Like Thorspark Accuspark Powerspark

How I converted my BSA B31 from magneto ignition to electronic pickup.
Parts: pickup, 6v coil, coil bracket, fuse holder, switch, wire, scrap aluminium.
Total cost under £60, would have been about £80 if I had bought a brand new pickup.

Can you tell me , the area behind the magdyno , where there's a cover over the engine plates , was that originally a place for a battery or a air cleaner ?. Cheers

The battery tray is between the oil tank and tool box. The parts book shows a pancake filter attached to the carb via an aluminium elbow but I have never seen a bike with one fitted, I guess they were removed and junked by previous owners!

Hi, basic dimensions are given in the video although it is best to make the components to suit your own magneto (dimensions may vary due to different wear rates), electric components are available from ebay just search Thorspark, Accuspark or Powerspark for the pickup, the coil is a basic 6v motorcycle coil.

I think Thorspark only make a complete kit. I used a Powerspark module, you can get either positive or negative earth. Sorry I don't have a link to buy but I have seen them on eBay@@wakbreng6161
