Great second ride out video and whilst I think the USB socket location isn't very subtle the look of the engine is growing on me. As you say its a tried and tested engine and the service intervals demonstrate the confidence in the quality of the manufacturing process. It does sound great. The brake and gear selector levers look more robust ,stylish and quality than those on the Meteor 650? Having just recently got the 350 and 411 I can wait a year.. or so... and see what user reviews look like and how BSA reputation pans out. Have a great Christmas

Thanks for the second ride, seriously tempted to buy the black one next year, 12,000 mile service interval is a very positive factor. I've owned the older BSA singles rigid fames and all, riden to the South of France on them, most have hearts of gold. But the only comparision should be how much fun they have built in. Nice to see the old roads of my youth too, take the road to Mersea Island next time, then left to East Mersea, great little journey.

@TAYM2 жыл бұрын
@@maczuka hmmm 🤔 that’s a tough one but if your trip of 200 miles is each way then you could be doing 1200 miles a month just in those journeys. That would mean on the 350 a head off service every 2 months or thereabouts. I suspect you will probably do the same mileage a month in ordinary use as well which would mean a head off service every month. That would either be expensive or time consuming or inconvenient or all three. I believe the BSA has a 24,000 miles valve check and a 7000 mile (or possibly 10000, not sure) service interval . I think I would go BSA. But as I and you both think, you need to ride one. 😊 hope that helps

Nice to see you out on the BSA again, you brave person you🥶. I am really looking forward to the Spring, when I will be out on it again. Maybe if BSA had taken a leaf out of Royal Enfield's book and tagged it with the word "reborn" there would be less negative comparisons with the B32 and B34. Not leaking oil is one big plus. 🙂 You did well to stay upright on those roads. I came of (as a passenger) a B34 in a village a few miles to the west of Colchester back in the 60s in similar conditions. Well done for braving the cold, proving that you really are ALL year! Other reviewers have said that the mudguards are metal, I suppose you could try the magnet trick unless they are aluminium. The RE Classic 350 certainly has metal (steel) mudguards which contribute to its significant weight but give a feeling of quality. My gut feeling is that although this is a nice machine, at 650cc you're better off with a twin.

Sounds like my old 1952 AJS single 500. And yep you don't have to tickle the old Amal carbs to flood them for a start. You don't have to play around with points or magnetos. You have a fuel injected water cooled machine. Im happy with my RF aircooled, EFI, Twin. Its got a great sound and looks great. Only issue is the rear brake after sitting a while twice its failed on me. Thats dangerous and no one knows exactly why it happens. I have to bleed it to fix any time it not been ridden for a while.its a ghost problem. You're going to enjoy years of fun on the BSA. Tyre kickers will complain about anything all the things you mentioned they complain about can be modified or changed apart from the water Cooling system, To be honest i wasn't a fan of it either but blacked out on your bike it looks respectful it think, i am getting used to it. She would be a solid tracktor. Time to set up a modern class trials type event, aget the knobbies on and give it to her up a hill through an old dry creek etc. Maybe wait till you can mod a statatory ride off bike you can get cheap.Its does sound very agricultural with that big single. You have nice country roads and scenery there. Great video footage and glad you enjoy your bike. At least your out there riding and not hiding. It seems a similar size to the RF interceptor its going to simply come down to weather someone wants a single or a twin im supprised it didn't come in at the same cost as the RF interceptor. That will be the other deciding factor the extra $. Then the air or water cooling system. The last one is the maintenance schedules and costs. As far as i can see the decision factors are very balanced. Between the RF int and the BSA Goldie. But then Royal enfield also have cheap single 500s in their line. If you like an old banger type bike but don't have a lot of bread its a air cooled bike but you trade off 100cc and go nowhere near the ton on fact i think your pushing to get up near 85mph with a lot of vibration and discomfort through the legs for the rider. My Interceptor with a K&N air filter a booster plug to enrichen the fuel system a little and some open reverse cone pea shooter cans will do the ton 2 up. So with ease thats about 180 kg on board. I hear alot even owners complain about the suspension of the RE interceptor. Ive had no issues and i haven't even tampered with it after one adjustment i tightened it up for a pillion and left it there. I believe the maintenance schedules for the RF int are overkill, Way overkill and i do my own maintenance Anyway. I also have a 2007 Triumph Bonneville SE 865 black. Its the last of the concentric type air asperated carby models. And once again ive modified it to my own prefrence. And i love that bike also. My other bikes are a 1973 Harley Shovelhead and a 2008 water cooled Suzuki ABS 1250 Bandit. I love them all. There all diffrent they can all give me a smile and they can all give me challenges and they can all get me into trouble. Once again thanks for the great video.

I do like the looks, and I previously had a BMW F650 so would trust the engine design. However not so sure on the rest of the quality. I have some machines with, 12/13 litre petrol tanks and admittedly these bikes do less mpg, in the 50s, but these days, with fuel station closings and fuel price on the motorways, a larger petrol tank is a bonus. When travelling, I like to put as much mileage between stops as I can. I just wish the tank held say 14/15 litres. Perhaps I am unusual, but in the past I have ridden regularly 350 miles in a day, on a 250 cc single. I also insist on a screen, Give A406, these days, just for a little weather protection for the bike and me. If panniers can be fitted and a tank bag, then off I would go, Scotland here I come, from Kent!

Well done TAYM on getting out ! rather you than me my friend especially on a bike I don't own 😉.Yeh I get it ! it's an ok bike but to my thinking for £6,000 plus what could I buy and really for £4,000 I could get a bike that could be much more versatile than that .Now having said that it would be a good winter hack because of the lack of weight and stuff and obviously for a BSA enthusiast because it harks back to the 50's one with modern attributes .Just not a single fan really though each to their own good luck if you order one seems a bit slow in coming to me . Happy days 😊👍

My Sir Bigglesworth, After your 2 up ride with Capt Charlie, and the intro ride with your new RS, i hear you have something new now? According to Cap, the RS wasn't too comfy? You got some splaining to do Mister 😄. Did you lose Buddy, for the RS? I assumed when u did your back seat with the Captain u were bikeless. Anyway, yes the BSA does look like a keeper, even for a single. Maybe especially for a single. That's what everyone is waiting to see. We don't have a BSA dealer here in Florida, so no test rides. Not that I have 7 thousand dollars to spend anyway. Still no center stand though. Are those alloy rims? Yes the rad is kinda big, but a rad is a rad. They all show. I really like the exhaust, all stainless, sweet. Front forks leave a little to be desired. Very base looking but does look old school. Thank you me friend, and a Merry Christmas to you and all the Bigglesworth family 🎄

It’s a nice looking bike, it’s not a like for like replica of the iconic 50’s models, so it needs to be judged on what it gives. A few bones to pick with you Mr Taym and not for turkey soup, yet. First off Muppets are cute, which is why I like your channel. Better than being an arse, eh! Re the rad, why couldn't they have done a Triumph and tapered it with the frame? It's half air-cooled anyway. Maybe a Bonnie's from a breakers'd slot in? Agree with the rear mudguard, be nice to have a light/numberplate bracket up on there. People do carp - nothing wrong with the USB port...useful and balances out the reservoir. Doesn't the Legacy have chrome bars and brushed cases? Nicer. Comparisons - Scram? Himalayan? The old Classic 500? Hunter? Fantic Caballero? KTM 390? Now, do you want one more than the Mandello (money no object)? More than Betty, Barney, Barry or Bertie? Lastly, did you go for a slide on that icy stretch next to that house on the right before the footpath on the left whence you cut it? 😄 Keep chopping vlogs Mr Taym, and keep the rubber side down. Ps now I know what you look like (in the mirror during walk-round) I'll keep an eye out in Suffolk/Cambs cafes when around those parts. And not a single splendiferous this time out - too cold?

Seems to me the launch delay has given the competition time to close in. When RE launched the Interceptor there was nothing in remotely the same ballpark, now you have not only the old guard like the NC750 (58bhp, £7850, discounts likely) but the lusty newcomers (Suzuki GSX-8S, 83bhp, £7999 and Honda Hornet, 90bhp, £7000 [alleged]) snapping at its heels. Very, very different bikes, but up to double the power for almost the same monthlies is going to put a lot of pressure on RE and BSA who stupidly held themselves down to the EU A2 licence restriction. Old time style? Wave £7500 at a Kawasaki dealer for a W800 and dare him to say no.

Have you seen this video? Moto Tingle: Things I hate about the BSA Gold Star 650
@TAYM2 жыл бұрын
I have indeed. I am a little confused by it to be honest and not sure quite what to make of it. I was going to leave it for a mutter but…. In brief, the fuel cap thing, just bizarre, it is like most bikes, not that difficult. Like my Bonneville, you have to hold it whilst you turn the key. It is as simple as that. If he had looked at the underneath of the cap he would have seen how simple it was. I am also a little confused by how he managed to melt his boots what appears to be a good six inches behind the foot peg. I get something similar on my classic 500 when I melt my cheap shower proof trousers on the exhaust. (From when my feet are on the floor. The frame I am not sure. Having looked close at it I can see some differences but obviously couldn’t swear to it though the fact the bsa is about 10cm longer in the wheel base, without an extreme change to the rake of the forks or a longer swinging arm I believe the frame must be different to the Jawa. On the point of the rev limiter, the BHP of 45 is at 6500 rpm. Putting the limiter at 7 seems to make sense. The fact the rev counter goes on is not a surprise as many bikes do the same. How ever this might be for future development. It could be that the engine is capable of producing much higher bhp , say 75 bhp. A sort of restriction to keep it A2 friendly. If this is the case it would make the bike very quick. On the point of speed , I had no issue with it. It is what it is, a pleasure to ride. On the point of price, the Jawa and Hunter are about the same, just under £2,000 (in India), the Interceptor, which everyone seems to compare to the BSA, is about £3,000 in India. Again, I am not sure why he raises this as it doesn’t mean anything. If you buy a BSA 650 you are not buying a Jawa 300. Of course I could be simply talking codswollop 😊😂😂😂
@nigelren37192 жыл бұрын
@@TAYM Aye it's not meant to be a sportsbike. I put a little shield thing on a Harley exhaust £10 on ebay. Wasn't the frame supposed to be designed by Harris, or is that the new REs? My X-ADV only makes 58bhp from 750cc, some folk think that's not enough! It does have a couple of similarities to the Jawa. Personally, I like your RE buddy.

@@nigelren3719 Very true 😊 On Moto Tingle, I don’t really understand it, i guess he just wanted to be different but I am not keen on the suggestion that myself and everybody else who has tested it is hiding something or not telling people the truth. If I was a dealer and saw him coming to test ride a bike that only had 70 miles on the clock I would not let him out on it for fear he would treat it with utter contempt. Just my view based on what I saw on the video. I would be interested to know what you thought of the video 😊

Would this bike generate as much interest if it were badged as a Mahindra/Rotax ? Probably not. But who can blame Mahindra for selling a dream ? Triumph and Royal Enfield have been doing it for years by bringing out new bikes named after famous past models . To me , BSA stands for " B*stard Stopped Again" .( Been there done that , picked up the bits, pushed it home ) . So the appeal is not there . So let's wipe the ( gold ) stars from our eyes and judge it solely as a motorcycle. It's very new at the moment and only time will tell if it's going to live up to the hype. Does it sound like a moped ? No . Does the silencer twitter on the overrun? Aye there's the rub ! 🤔
