Now that's how an air rifle should look in my opinion, beautiful looking gun none of that polymer, tactical nonsense. Yea I know the plastic stocks are easier to look after for field use, but that timber and blued steel...👌 she's a beaut. Other manufacturers take note. Great video as always Kevin.

Truly not understanding the bashing on this. I've been shooting it for a week and it's an absolute sweetheart of a rifle. Also moving your face forward just a bit puts you very comfy on lining up the open sights with the stock just under my ear and gives me a consistent anchor point. Trigger can be worked out. Best $200 buy I've had in an air rifle.

I wasn't bashing the rifle. I gave an honest review and explained what I liked and didn't like about the gun. In my opinion, a well designed rifle stock shouldn't require that the shooter adjust his or her hold in order to get a decent sight picture. For the price tag, it's not a bad buy at all. Especially if you're planning on scoping it. Thanks for watching, my friend.

@@razor1962 I wasn't speaking of you bashing. Sorry for the confusion. Was speaking of the comments from others. You know how it goes, over half of negative comments are from people that never used one. To me they found a happy medium between a scope cheek piece and open sight stock. I have absolutely no dislike of the stock at all. Great all arounder.

I bought one for my son, the dealer recommended 10.34gr jsb. Its a birthday gift and I haven't given it to him yet. I did clean it and sent 1 pellet down range and hit what I was aiming at (a 3inch steel). The factory sights are awesome. The fiber optics lights up real good in the sun light.

That's a fantastic gift. As for pellets, it might be worth getting a test pack so you can compare several types and find which ones work best. I've had good results with Air Arms, JSB, H&N, RWS and have found that medium weight to lighter weight pellets tend to work best with spring rifles rather than the heaviest ones.

I have a meteor super in .22 cal. I've removed the open sights. Added a harmonic turner to the barrel. I installed the trigger upgrade screw from airgun detective. I was initially very disappointed with this rifle. The trigger is now superb. Very crisp let off. With the harmonic tuner the groups are now ragged holes at 25yds. Down from 2-3 inches. It's now one of my favorite break barrels.

enjoy your channel very much. been an air rifle enthusiast for about the same time as you, and have a very nice collection of rifles and pistols from the 60's on. i saw the meteor super about 6 months ago and tried out one in .177. was drawn to the looks and never having had a gas ram, decided to give it a go. like you, i was able to shoot it fairly well, but after living with weihrauch and feinwerkbau triggers, just couldn't abide by that awful trigger. back it went. then i saw the 22 cal model at aoa for $199. figured what the hell, i'll take it apart and make it at least livable. what was delivered, made me do a double take. not only was the minelli stock visually striking, but the trigger appeared to have been improved to the point that it was actually not half bad. shorter first stage and a somewhat crisp release at a hair over two pounds. don't know if my gun is typical of others, but that's what i got. the stock screws appeared to have been put in with loctite and overall, felt like alot more than $199. mounted a hawke 2-7x32 airmax and removed the sights for a very sleek package. i've lately been taking the bare barrels and covering them in heavy duty shrink tubing. makes them less prone to scuffing, reduces glare to nothing, and makes them very nice to grab for cocking. looking forward to more of your videos.

The BSA meteor. In the UK this was nearly as iconic as the Daisy BB gun in the US. Everyone had one, or knew where to borrow one, ancient examples could even be found at fairground shooting galleries. This specimen may look like an update, but it doesn't seem to follow the tradition. Unfortunately. It looks as if Gamo have been somewhat disingenuous - this is obviously a "scope only" stock - so they should have marketed on that basis. Personally I like having the choice, but that's not the biggest problem for me. One thing I have come to realise during my own undistinguished shooting career is the supreme importance of a good trigger. Barrels, Ammunition - they can ALL deliver more accuracy than I can. A poor, creepy trigger though - I can't cope with one of those. Thanks for pointing this out.

I have the 2 "BSA guns" first the effectively Gamo hornet (2014) which has no BSA marks but was sold as BSA and the BSA XL SE GRT (2019), both have the exact same trigger unit, the Super has the same trigger as both mine, the hornet was dirt cheap but accurate has a threaded barrel pivot, the XL SE GRT has a barrel PIN like nearly all BSA models ever had, that super has the threaded gamo barrel pivot, now my XL SE GRT is accurate but VERY pellet fussy and i have had to tinker to get it reliable and accurate, BSA break barrels could be so much more but BSA and Gamo seem to interfere with each other and cheap out, and in doing so ruin what could be so much better, my XL SE is prime example just little bits of finishing and a better trigger group instead of a Gamo one from a dirt cheap rifle jammed in

Yes. As is often the case, a manufacturer will sell out to a bigger, but not necessarily better manufacturer. And the quality declines. We've seen it time and again. Hi Kevin! To be honest, it is unacceptable that Gamo brings a 300 dollar airgun on the market and the open sights can't be properly used. The only reason that the stock is good is because it's is made by Minelli. Put in a cheap trigger, add some plastic details and you maybe have a best seller with a good profit. This is how Gamo always worked. It's a disgrace for the BSA name that made once great air rifles. For about the same price you buy a HW30. That rifle is also light, has great usable open sights, looks good and has the Record trigger. Thanks again for your video 👍Ps. It is not my intension to hurt feelings here, just telling facts. Gamo is not my cup of tea and never will be. Cheers!

All the spring airguns I have bought or those of friends I have tested over the Chrony in the UK have been well below 12ft lbs. The HWs and AA guns have been better than most others. This is despite claims of 11.5ft lbs in the adverts. Is this what others have found?
@jacklurcher5813
@jacklurcher5813 Жыл бұрын
It's a tricky situation for the manufacturers, as they need to keep below 12ft lbs muzzle energy regardless of the many possible combinations of pellet mass and velocity. My .22 HW97K gives 11.2ft lbs with a 15.89gr JSB Jumbo and 11.4ft lbs with the lighter 13.43gr JSB RS due to the extra 50fps or so of the lighter pellet (mass times velocity squared and all that). Use a heavier 16.2gr H&N Hornet and it drops to 10.3ft lbs due to the drop in velocity from using a heavier pellet. I don't think it's deliberate policy to market under powered guns, they just need to allow for different pellet mass and velocity combinations, and also minor manufacturing variations between individual rifles.

Being a bit sad and geeky, I did a bit of maths on this. I've recorded 11.2ft lbs with a 15.89gr pellet. It would only need around another 20fps to hit 12ft lbs, so I think the UK spec Weihrauchs are pretty much pushing the limit as far as they can.

The cut out is almost as deep as my Tau 200BT (Goggle It)... and that's significant ! 😳 But it does swing very easily offhand. 😉👍 And mind you the comb is specifically designed for 20 MOA mounts, it's also adjustable and can easily drop 1/2" without the cheek riser shims... 🤷🏼‍♂️ Extremely fast pointing, but it IS none the less a Running Target rifle. 😉

The very nature of Gas Rams almost always (if not Always) dictates an exterior sear engagement on the outer piston wall, this requires a significant purchase in the piston wall, and an extraordinary spring tension on the trigger forcing the sear engagement at an oblique angle. The sear engages hard, and releases hard under significant tension. 😣 Best example being the greater difference between the HW90 and HW 80 triggers. So much of the two formats is virtually identical, but the pistons and springs ARE different and subsequently the Trigger characteristics are Night and Day ! HW80 ? Yes... please ! HW 90 ? Hard Pass !!! ✋🤨

Not that GAMO makes bad guns, but they are expected to be a notch or so under BSA. With this rifle, to me ar least, it seems that GAMO may be involing itself a bit too much. Accuracy seemed poor, and I would expect that Walther still makes the BSA barrels. That however was a bit dissapointing. Another thing that irritated me was the squeaking it made during the cocking range of motion. Great video. New subscriber!

For the fibre optic sights not being useful due to the cheekpiece height, is that perhaps due to sitting at a bench rather than shouldering the gun to fire without support (so more like a hunting gun?). Perhaps good to get your view if firing from the shoulder while standing up.

Even offhand the iron sights are basically unusable without holding the gun and your head in an uncomfortable position. I'm a fairly small guy (5'7") so I would imagine it would be worse for someone even bigger. Saying this gun was poorly designed is an understatement and based on how cheaply made the sights are, I think its safe to say they weren't actually meant to be used.

The most disappointing gun I've purchased. BSA, if you're reading this, don't charge HW prices for Gamo quality guns. This gun made it less than a full tin before needing the piston seal to be replaced. Luckily I had a TX200 seal on my shelf which, even more luckily, was a direct fit replacement. To top it off, it is exactly a Gamo trigger as Kevin stated. This will be the last (new model) BSA that I purchase I think. I love the aesthetics of it but beyond that, big thumbs down.

@@arthurmow262 Its a direct competitor to the HW50S not the HW90. The 90 is a full blow magnum whereas the 50S and Meteor Super are both sub 12ftlb and relatively compact guns. Having a gas piston really doesn't make a difference. For what its worth, this gun would likely work much better with a coiled spring. I find the recoil on the 50S to be much more pleasant. Pound for pound, the 50 is a much better gun in every way imaginable for very similar price tags.

Hi Tim. Yeah, the trigger is the weakest link in the chain on that rifle. I'm not certain if it'll work on the BSA, but there's a mod that requires replacing the trigger adjustment screw with a longer one that makes a huge difference in some of the Gamo triggers. Thanks for watching, my friend.

True, BSA are getting sloppy. However, the problem with this air rifle is its barrel harmonics. You won’t get a decent group unless you stick a decent weight moderator on it. It has a half inch thread. Tighter groups will follow. Of course you can use a barrel harmonic tuner if you have the patience of a saint. Anyhow, either silencer or tuner will do the trick and lead to acceptable groups. Pity BSA are risking their reputation over the last couple of years. Lose it and it’s lost for a long time. Baz.

It isn’t a Spanish gamo gun. It’s Birmingham that the proper Birmingham in England that made guns for two world wars. I pick mine up later this week. So I can’t say how good or bad the trigger is but it was made new for this gun. According to the press release. The other thing is people who don’t know the meteor models alway harp on about the plastic cap if they did some home work they’d realise every meteor has that cap. That’s why it has the cap , to make it a meteor. I’m sure your right about the sights. Because if i tried to fit them on my GRT lightning the same would happen the higher cheek would get in the way. bsa make some sight Elevation blocks they fitted to the gold star and super star and the Polaris. The only meteor I don’t own is the mk6 but I can say my so-called gamo meteors that have stocks made in Italy with wood from Sweden and a British barrel. mk7 and evo shoot well with the gamo trigger. So there’s nothing wrong with the gamo trigger, there’s even a gold adjustable competition style trigger for them. For the price the Birmingham super meteor you tested should have the scope rail , same has the lightnings. I don’t know if they are a limited model or not, but ether way they are a future collectible. Hey don’t go out in the cold if it makes you grumpy. But loved the review. All the best.

Hi Dave, The Birmingham reputation stands on its own as does the the BSA reputation. You're welcome to disagree with my take on the rifle. There are lots of things to like about the gun but in my opinion, that triggers just plain sucks and with the exception of the location of the safety, the trigger on many Gamo rifles appears to be identical. Not grumpy in the least my friend. Don't mistake honest criticism for agitation. Thanks so much for your comment and your viewership.

@@razor1962 I was pulling your leg about being grumpy. Like I said I only pick mine up later in the week I’ll let you know what a think about the trigger the safety looks identical to the safety catches on my supersport se and my lightnings so does the trigger. And they are a totally different trigger that the gamo’s The triggers do take a bit of getting used too. The way I do it is. I shoot the old guns first 1980s webley and Scott’s and bsa’s then once we get our eye in , move on to the newer guns. I’ve tried shooting the TX200HC first. Has you can imagine that doesn’t work very well. Trigger goes off for almost no reason. Thank you for the reply. I think I probably own every break modem barrel/ under leaver that bsa have made. Plus around 20 of the classic bsa’s. So I’m a bit of a geek on the bsa’s. Got my first meteor when i was ten. @@razor1962 I just thought I’d let you know that I went to pick the Birmingham super meteor up today. And you was right about the sights I tried looking down them right handed and the stock was lifting off my shoulder but bizarrely I could look down the sights left handed. The trigger guard and knurled barrel end cap are metal and really nice When I checked the gun over, I asked could I partially cock it to see the new linkage I’d heard about on line. I noticed immediately it was spring, I thought it only came In gas ram.that’s one of the reasons it cost so much , I got the shop to call bsa factory and they told the guy behind the counter they are all spring. So I showed the guy at the shop on my phone internet that bsa press release said they are all gasram. So I said I’ll contact bsa myself to sort it out. But I noticed a lovely new bsa lightning SE GRT in walnut with a lovely grain. I already own the XL GRT and it’s a superb little carbine. I knew bsa made the walnut version but I’ve never come across one, so I brought that home instead. So No Birmingham super meteor for now anyway. I’ve emailed bsa and I’ll get the meteor, but I’m over the moon with the walnut lightning. So not all bad.

@Dave Monday @Dave Monday @Dave Monday Hi Dave, I'm willing to bet that you're looking at a release aimed at the American market. I'm beginning to think that the gun may be produced in two configurations. I don't remember the end cap for certain but the thread protector and the safety knob were both plastic and mine is without a doubt a gas ram. A walnut stocked SE GRT is by far the better rifle. Congratulations Dave!
