On the video it shows sharpening the knife by pulling the blade toward the person. Should that always be done by moving the blade away, like when cutting?

Both directions work, I'm a knife sharpener by trade and I do this all the time. I must say as an ex scout, almost nobody past their first years in my troop gave a hoot about blood circle😂

When you're sharpening is the only time when the blade can be towards you
