BSF larvae transfer from the pupation bin

I have too many larvae in the pupation bin so I am transferring them to one of my commercial fiberglas redworm bins. Most of the larvae are medium size so as they grow they will need more room. This bin has sections so I can adjust the area as the larvae grow. You can order BSF Larvae on the website northwestredworms.com in the compost products section.

The fiberglas bins are what I use for my high end castings productions. I do have to shovel out the castings, but I have figured out an easy way to do the harvesting. I have some bins that are ready to harvest so I will be doing a video on that in the next couple of days.

Have you thought of covering the screen in your pupation bin with transparent plastic to extend the operation into colder weather?

what do you plan to do with the bsfl ? or do you just use them to compost ? also do you raise worms fo a living or do you farm , just find it all interesting thanks for the vids

I'm using plastic trash cans as worm bins. Whenever I put fresh produce in them the fly larvae are all over it and I suppose the worms burrow down to avoid the heat. Once the produce is consumed the worms return to the top. Is that an accurate description of what is going on or am I killing the redworms?

I live in PA so BSF are not native to this area from what I can find online so if i wanted to raise them for chicken feed i would have to build a breed pen as well as a bin for the composting and harvesting. My question is would i just move some of the larva into bedding material to hatching into the flies then give them the chicken feed box with card board to lay their eggs? and would it be easier to just take a cardboard trap full of eggs and place it right into the composting bin and allow them to hatch right with the already going larva or would i have to allow the eggs to hatch into the chicken feed box before moving them to the larva bin. It seems like a full time job

It is January 20th in East Central Georgia and after some 10 & 15 degrees days mine are hatching out into fly's . I had them heated for my red worms but when I checked I had hundreds of Black Fly's flying in the dark . I will watch to see what happens with them , maybe can raise them year round ?
