T-90S Bhishma, Russian T90 tank का Indian version है, जिसे Indian terrain के लिए tailor किया गया है।
2001 में, Indian Defence Ministry और Russia के State Cooperation Rosvoorouzhenie के बीच एक agreement sign हुए जिसके तहत भारत ने 310 Russian T-90S tanks खरीदे।
Main battle tank Arjun के domestic production में delay होना और 1995-97 तक Pakistani सेना में Ukraine-made T-80 tanks की deployment counter करना, T-90 के जल्द से जल्द induction की वजह बने।
‘5 Armoured Regiment’ भारतीय सेना की पहली Regiment बनी जिसे T90 tanks से equip किया गया।

@MukeshKumar-pm3wz I am aware. But the Crews often walk away from western tanks. They don't brew up and explode like russian tanks.

Is the number really 4500 Sir ? We have 2500 T-72, perhaps around 1200 odd T-90 and 100 odd Arjun. Unless the remaining 700 are T55s and Vijayanth from storage ?

the T-90 is a victim of flawed design . . . it's floor mounted carousel type ammunition loading system tends to cook off (blow up) if the T-90 hull is penetrated, sustains a direct hit . . . thus destroying the tank & killing it's crew . . . storing all that ammunition in the floor for the auto-loader is it's biggest flaw by far . . . a design feature that has plagued all Russian tanks to date, be it the T-72 T-55 T-80 or the new T-90M . . . once a T-90 hull is penetrated by APSFDS round, everyone inside the tank will be killed . . . the crew will be subjected to an explosive heat exceeding 500°C as the open ammunition in the floor carousel will cook off in secs . . . resulting in a fire ball so hot that it could incinerate, literally vapourize everything with flesh within a 2 yard radius . . . as for it's 3-man crew the T-90 is more dangerous than the enemy ur facing in the battlefield . . . the Indian Army knows this fact very well, yet they chose to acquire the T-90 in thousands . . . please care to elaborate . . .

Western tanks ka weight bhi to 60-70 tons ke hota he. Russian tanks to 45-50 tons ke hote he.

Areeh yeh sabh sahi he par t90 India neh kharida hi is lea tha kih by the time arjun comes out t72 ke bad ek theek thak platform ho but arjun took so long that t90 now has become main stay and t72 hin abh tak retire nahi hua he , Indias tank armoury is doomed to fail in a full scale war .
