Amazing Video. Thanks Ashwin. Quick tip to everyone: Instead of using a heated screw driver, (US madhe chulha nahi milala kuthe) I used a soldering iron to make the pancham hole on my flute. I felt it was easier to control and also quicker with soldering iron. Try it out! 😊

Thank you for this video. I am an amateur flautist and amateur flute-maker as well. With your idea (and due credit to your respected Guruji) and my little knowledge of physics, I hope to make the thumb hole perfectly on my already made flute. But to use that hole like you will take my life. Regards.

Thanks for making this public. People generally dont. I have tried this and got success with about 75% of the distance between Re and Ga for the thumb hole. There is another technique also of getting a Ma Tivra Hole which can be played with the little finger with a little stretch. This involves a small finger pad to be placed below the 6th Pa Hole. That come from my teacher Nitin Amin who is also a gayaki ang player.

Aap bansi badak to jarur lekin app pahle ek atulnio admi ho. Your smiling face and simple behavior attract me most. In a previous video you explained the function of thumb hole. As a result I tried it on my Flute, the tune is perfect. But I can't play easily. Perhaps I have to practice a lot . Thanks ASHWIN ji for this valuable video. Just one question, don't you use your little finger for lower 'MA'?

Thanks a lot on explaining the objective - theory - implementation aspect of the Pancham hole. I have done this successfully on a relatively cheaper G base Basuri that I have. So BT09 was a quickly implementable learning. BT10 - Using the Pancham Hole is going to be a looong process. I hope to crack it. For making the hole, I followed progressively increased size drilling and then elongating the hole towards blowing hole to make it sound sharper. Used Tuner for the same purpose of matching - instead of using my untrained ear. Your guidance was adequate and I got compelled to implement it within a day. Thanks again.

It's a rare phenomenon to tell and share trade secrets. Only greats without fears can do so
@ashwinflute5 жыл бұрын
Firstly my belief system and upbringing has taught me that Music is no trade. Yes it’s a means to earn a living. And fundamentally every musician is different and hence tells his or her story in their own unique way. No amount of mimicing (imitation as a form derived from inspiration) will still get us to sound like another, as we will inadvertently have the stamp of our personality in our music. We’ve all started from the imitation phase (for technical and thought development) and we must seek to deviate at some point to use our technique and thought process (derived from the imitation phase) to tell our story in our way. I analogise this with children learning to speak. They tend to learn by imitating those around them when young but they use that vocabulary and thought process, to somewhere down the line, express their own thoughts and opinions. Hence there should be no question of insecurity and therefore no secret! Hope that made sense! :)
@vibhashukla27965 жыл бұрын
@@ashwinflute I said it's a rare phenomenon.You yourself must be knowing it. But that's what makes you rare and special. I just repeated it because sometimes it's required
@vibhashukla27965 жыл бұрын
@@ashwinflute Well nothing is trade if you feel it so, or everything is a trade if you feel other way around. But it hardly matters if you do it honestly and sincerely. But actually in my opinion nothing comes free in this universe. We have to pay the price. Only and only question is when. There is a good story in Mahabharata for it. But if we even look around us there are lot of great or good artists who were very protective about their secrets and were or are very commercial. I don't want to name them. Few are legendary singers. So trade or no trade is just a belief system. It's not important till it enters in ego. I don't know have you ever noticed that very known and great singers mostly sings bhajans pathetically. Because their art (or artistic ego) prevents them to just be simple sometimes.

Measurement is pretty much similar as per my understanding. My advice is to try it first on a less expensive flute. The trial and error method teaches us everything we shouldn’t do and that’s the right way to learn, in my opinion.

Thank you so much for showing us how to make the Pancham hole by our self, I had a small doubt, you said to put the hole at a distance equal to separation between Re and Ma holes, since we need to go a note higher, But isn't the distance between tivra Ma and Pa is of half note? So technically we should place the pancham hole at a half distance of Re and Pa hole. But we also observe that it seems to be working, is it because the size of the hole is kept smaller compared to the other holes. I am a beginner, excuse me if this doubt seems stupid. Your videos are awesome, This BT series is helping me to learn alot 🙏

Your method would give me a somewhat similar option atleast for the middle and probably the higher (tara) octave.
