Just how far can you push the tried and proven Ford straight six? This is what we try to find out with our project "Monster" F6.
The goal? A 1000hp engine in a street package. The result? 1300hp+ from the engine with 992.8hp at the rear wheels.
For more info, check out the Project F6 build blog:

It's funny because I own a F6 310 and I always thought the guys driving V8 HSVs would try to get me to drag race against them. But it's been completely the other way around, and the V8 drivers never even want to make direct eye contact with me. I guess they must have known the F6's turbo engine is a V8 crusher.

+Supra World I'm not surprised. Toyota built the Supra as a sports performance car. Ford built the F6 from a base 4 door family car. No suprise. There's pros and cons. Want to tow a boat with 4 guys in the car and then have some fun the next day. The falcon or a commodore will do it and most of us do that more often then producing 1000hp with no traction and no chassis that can truly deliver it.
@marklowe7431
@marklowe7431 9 жыл бұрын
***** You're missing the point. Falcon "is" a 4 door production sedan with a turbo and intercooler strapped on a taxi engine. A Supra was designed to be a performance sports car period. Now let's look at the last 3 fastest cars in the world according to Guinness book of records. 2 of them run quad cam ford engines. The current fastest being a twin turbo GT with the modular engine that runs in our later falcon GT's. Faster than a Veyron with Supra not even in the equation. For a cheap insanely flexible car the Falcon XR6 turbos are a bargain and haul serious ass. It's funny, when Nissan or Toyota make a modern twin cam six it's superior tech but when ford do it's never good enough. Agree, Toyota make some serious nice gear but the modular, the 5.0L and the Barra engine hold up to anything toyota prod make. As for the chassis, a purpose build roll cage frame is required to make these stiff in half the power you're talking about. Production race cars kind of illustrate this without much doubt including toyota.
@marklowe7431

Cool, that's awesome. I just hear the XR6 guys say the same often. 1700hp de-stroked single turbo. Nelson 1500hp 4.6L V8 twin turbo and so on. As long as you are happy it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

+Supra World.... Mate, there's no need to be so fast and furious. And I just love how you carry on, but then admit that you've spent $80,000 on your engine. What I want to know is, how does a kid in high school, (who obviously plays Gran Turismo a lot) afford $80,000 for an engine rebuild, when he can't even drive? You're not fooling anyone, "boy!"

If only these were in the U.S.... Sadly the I6 is a dying breed here. EVERYTHING 4 door is going transverse layout. Even the newest Ford Explorer, it's 4x4 but engine sits sideways. We have the Mustang, beautiful car, and the SHO Taurus AWD ecoboost that's 365hp and capable of 600+. But for me hands down I'd buy the Falcon XR6 Turbo.
@benschmidt3967
@benschmidt3967 8 жыл бұрын
+Will Spicer The weight balance of the Taurus is terrible you can throw a XR6T or F6 into a corner like a motorbike, Two completely different cars more used to hunting down AMG and M Power. You don't see many Taurus drift cars for that reason and with steering so stable and balance you can steer with two fingers... AWD has two diffs and would have poor launch than the ZF auto mated to Eaton True trac diff which is capable of 9 second quarters... If a 600Hp at the rear wheels (not having power lost in the diffs) Xr6t can hit over 304 kmph that Taurus would be like shooting fish in a barrell. They are easily tuned tune and with a inline 6 in the centre of the front chassis gives much better front weight balance than some V6 dropped in the centre... Remember the original BMW M5 had a inline 6...this is Ford Australia interpretation of the classic sports saloon. For those who remember who beat the Germans with GTHO in 1971...the Falcon belongs with the Mercedes which it used to race...for the fastest 4 door in the world... I heard Mercedes wants to bring the inline 6 back due to V6 unreliability, engine balance and timing chain issues affecting the reliabillity aspect of its traditional designs... BMW still wants inline 6 with turbos... Ford turning in Toyota now with the Falcon gone they have now no RWD sedan to compete with German marques. I guess they have won by default. The Cadillac CTS exists but Ford has absolutely ' nothing near' its performance but won't 'use' it. Ford dumped the 427 concept as well due to short sightedness too. Other companies im sure will profit from the Falcons demise. The original Mad Max drove one... he used to chase motorcyles too. Most BMW drivers know why the new Mustang handles so well it stole the dual-link IRS unit from the Falcon as it was still live rear axle in the 21st century-geez...in the previous model. The Falcon dumped live rear back in 2002....took the US a while...

Why not import a Barra and stick it in a mustang (mechanically speaking, please don't hurt any animals). You'd need a good exhaust guy to fabricate a turbo manifold and dump pipe that would clear the steering column. How do you guys go with Nissan RB engines? Might need to take some ideas from there.. Should be cheap enough to ship an engine over - we buy your v8s all the time

TheAngryPigeon1, I had actually thought about this... I've had several F150s with the 300 i6.. BULLETPROOF engine, but the head isn't a crossflow and they really need a 4bbl to wake them up. I'd love to swap one in a Foxbody Mustang, since that was my first car but being American I also love my trucks lol. Be awesome to take a regular cab 2wd F-100 or F-150 and do a Barra swap with a 6 speed... anybody asks what's in it, just say a "little inline 6, nothing special" lmao. But seriously, a Barra swapped foxbody would be a serious drag car... even chevy people know their a good drag car haha

This means that because that amount of weight can only be pushed to a certain limit before the weight eventually intensifies and breaks something. thus Large engines have lower Revlimit. A smaller engine has a much larger rev band. Which is the secret to traction. Distributing the power over the rev band more evenly reduces the chance of breaking traction.Meaning its mostly about balance. Yes and tire selection is also crucial. but everything has a limit.

Taking the overall package of performance, comfort, reliability, space and solidity into account, nothing can beat a new G6ET for $54k, let alone a near-new one for $29k. The happiness you feel from owning a Euro car is just your brain's way of handling the cognitive dissonance associated with spending $100k on a car, you want it so badly to be worth what you paid for it that your perception of it doesn't reflect the reality. As for the money I saved, I'm using it on a 2 month trip to Europe ;).

Given equivalent *max* horsepower, the larger engine will have a higher torque, but at a lower RPM (Power = Torque * angular velocity). The Barra, having more displacement and thus, higher torque when N/A, won't have to rev as high to produce 1000 HP as the smaller engine.
@Suprastar77
@Suprastar77 11 жыл бұрын
Yes but that means the chance of it breaking traction is much much more higher. Torque is produced by displacement and the weight of the internal components inside the engine. think of it this way. you roll a solid ball and a hollow ball down a gential slope and then you try to stop it. the solid ball will be harder to stop because more weight thus once internal parts start moving they become eaiser to move because they are moving a a pace where little effort is required.

Are you talking about transmission losses or lack of traction? AWD actually results in more power-loss through the drive train compared to RWD, with FWD having even less drive-train loss (thus being the most efficient). As for traction, the right tyres are far more important than AWD. A drag car with a good launch will lift it's front tyres off the ground, so AWD would be useless. Traction is dictated by the weight over the driven tyres, weight transfers to the rear during heavy acceleration.

its been proven that it isnt about the capacity/ displacement of the engine. its all about efficiency. what i mean is how much power it can get down. you can have a 1000hp engine but it could only get about 600hp of it on the ground. if you have a 600hp engine and its putting over 550hp on the ground you have a monster. this is where AWD plays a big factor

whydidyoudothatkarl wrong answer AWD launches slower due to a extra diff. You are not in 9 second or 7 second territory here if the drivetrain is setup right. Your car is AWD designed for grip not launching the quickest. 9 second car is not hard even with 350 at the wheels and with launch control and your throttle mapped this car could get to 150mpg quickly with the German ZF Auto

@JESSEJ8888 if you researched your cars you'd know that the new auto in these fords are 100x better then a manual, quicker shifting and a smoother drive..

mate who cares if an auto shifts quicker, in a manual u have so much more control be it cornering, braking , drifting. I have driven both and the auto does what all autos do even in sports mode, shift fast but with a slight delay that makes car control shit. Give me a Race clutch and a HP V8 any day. I had the choice and i got the 6 speed GS supercharged 5 litre. Tuned it and a few other bits and have a 500kw machine that can be driven like cars are meant to.

+Jye Fisher 2 years late to the show but auto will never beat manual in my books. Sure its convienent, shifts quicker blah blah.. But in manual you can stay in your power band for so much longer, you actually have control of your car.

Straight line you're better off with a auto because you can set them up to change gear at the most precise time and obviously this car wasn't build to be driven around a track...

Euro cars may have had the quality edge before the early 2000s but the rest of the world has caught up, while the quality and reliability of mainstream Euro badges has stagnated.You must work for a Euro car dealership, because the joy, sensation and pleasure of owning a tuned G6E Turbo with full cashmere leather trim is unmatched by any low-end Euro car that can be bought for less than 80k. Stick a BMW badge on a G6ET and put a $100k sticker price on it, no one will bat an eyelid (cont.).
