Btech GMRS 20V2 - COULD BE BETTER! My thoughts and other GMRS updates.

I purchased a BTech 20V2 a while back and have been using it in my vehicle for a while. Hear my thoughts on it in this video. Bottom line = love the size but not thrilled with a few things.

Always love to hear about fellowship between GMRS'ers and Hams. I've been a Ham for 40+ years and a GMRS'er since about the moment the FCC dropped the price. I've always been of the opinion that radio is radio, and I have little patience for the silly turf wars that inevitably seem to pop up online.

I have a ham and gmrs lisence. The only segment of the gmrs population is the jeep weirdos. Any man that drives a jeep has a boyfriend or their wife has a boyfriend. The original army jeep and the old Wagoner get an exemption.

Thank you! It was just a mag-mount gmrs wire antenna, nothing fancy or high gain.

looking for a gmrs to put on an atv rack, what do you think? most of our riding/communication is line of sight, maybe 10 bikes/utvs

Retevis just came out with a very similar unit that I have a video on. It's much more simple to use than the v20.

The retivis rt95 ham radio also looks intriguing. I hear that powering on the radio while holding down a couple buttons opens up the radio to transmit on various different frequency groups including gmrs and MURS.

And the rt95 can be found for 100 to $120 and seems to have really good reviews.

Love 98% of this radio from the size of the data box to size and weight of the mic/display. I deducted 1% for not having a hanger buttons on the mic. It does come with a hanger hook which works but not ideal. Another 1% for no volume knob/dial. This is my first GMRS mobile radio therefore I have no reference point. I was looking for something low profile and here you have it. Within 5 mins of introductory use you’ll be amazed as to how this unit is easy-to-use. I would purchase again.

I’m looking for a small radio to go in my wife’s vehicle and have been looking at this and the QYT 8900d in your honest opinion which is the better radio.

Honestly, that is a confusing radio simply because it has multiple channels to monitor. If you are wanting something more basic, the RETEVIS RA86 is a great radio that works excellent.

I’ve had really good luck with mine, except for the volume the squelch I left on 2 with no problems hit many repeaters from miles away it also works great as a scanner

I think it was my luck of the draw on that radio... My antenna works great on all other units except that one.

Chirp has a feature to download all gmrs channels to your file. I should do a video, great idea.

I really don't like how you have to turn the volume up and down and don't understand why there can't just be a volume up and down button but other than that this looks like it will be the perfect radio for my semi truck at work. They don't want us to get high power radios that have to have a direct battery connection so the fact that this can be powered to the cigarette lighter plug makes it awesome for me

I just got the Anysecu WP-9900 ham version of this radio. I can honestly say it has the worst transmit audio out of the box of any radio I've ever had. As I'm not one to send back budget equipment, I took it as a challenge to improve the transmit audio. I took apart the microphone, peeled off the fabric over the mic element, drilled out the mic port and modified the rubber keypad mic opening so there is absolutely nothing between the mic element and open air. There is some improvement, but for $115, it should not require this much effort to make it readable on the air. In my opinion, this is the major downfall of every one of these Chinese radios. In many cases, the mic element isn't anywhere near lined up with the mic port. How hard is that?

Me personally, I think BTECH is overpriced. Us they have a habit of not answering support mail. I use a KT-8900D myself. Never had any issues with it, I can do GMRS/MURS/IG bands... I see no reason to change.
