Anpanman is a Japanese character (anpan, a red bean paste-filled pastry) who uses himself to help/feed others, it is an analogy to them as artists whose power is to give themselves in their lyrics and their music to help their fans or anyone who listens to them. Also, it is a reference to the fact that it is not necessary to have superpowers to do good or help, any ordinary person can be a hero. I love this song "I'm not a superhero vs i can be your hero" smart

I bet that when you see the words from the piece, you will change your mind. this track sends a nice message and talks about a hero without anything special as a super power he is like an ordinary person. Anpanman gives people a part of him (his head) to save them, essentially sacrificing himself for others. The song talks about how they feel like they need to be these idols and role models, who give and give and give. And even through the hardships of essentially tearing themselves up for us, they are still willing to keep doing it because they know they help people. BTS are tearing off pieces of themselves to make us (Army) stronger. Asking for nothing in return (which isn't healthy or sustainable), just like Anpanman tears off pieces of his bean bun head to feed people, making himself weaker. Remember the lyrics saying " Keep secretly secretly getting covered in bruises, but ballin ballin still BANGTAN”. In an interview, Jimin said “Anpanman is the weakest hero in the world. He doesn’t have any supernatural power, but he’s a hero who tears off himself to give food to someone who’s hungry. We put our hearts in the song that we want to give our fans hope and energy, solely with our music and performances.” -from doolset

This performance was recorded live during the pandemic, so without an audience (which always affects their energy, for obvious reasons). It's one of my favorite songs, and live performance WITH an audience is amazing. There is one with a bouncy house that is really fun. Also, the lyrics are part of what makes this song so awesome. It has an incredible message.

It's a very light and fun song!!!! But the message on top of it is actually so good: Anpanman is the main character of a Japanese anime, ‘Anpanman.’ In an interview, Jimin said “Anpanman is the weakest hero in the world. He doesn’t have any supernatural power, but he’s a hero who tears off himself to give food to someone who’s hungry. We put our hearts in the song that we want to give our fans hope and energy, solely with our music and performances.” They are just humans trying to bring joy and helping at the best of their abilities, by their art, spreading love and compassion! They often perform this song as fire fighters, construction workers etc for this song celebration real everyday life super heroes! This song is a reminder that you can be anybody's Anpan! This inspired many ARMYs to be a helping hand by a simple action, and the creation of ARMY charity projects! That's one of my fav thing about BTS/ARMY it might be a simple message but we're trying to be a force for good, actually taking concrete actions on it! It's the BTS effect. They can totally make you speechless sometimes, right? 😆I get what you mean about the studio track probably sounding fuller. Their performance was great, as usual, but this did seem like a "tamer" performance of Apanman than I'm used to hearing. As others have mentioned, this was a pandemic performance with no live audience so I think that may have contributed to it. I wonder if the background instruments weren't as pronounced because of not needing to account for audience feedback? Slightly stripped down compared to a live performance with a full audience? 🤷 In terms of Apanman for me, it's hard for anything (yet) to compare with their live MAMA 2018 performance of it - they took over! I know you have a huge list of reactions you're working through across the board, but I definitely recommend checking out a video of that performance. Not necessarily for a reaction video unless you want to, but just because I think you'll enjoy it and get that fuller audio and audience experience from it. Plus, the intro to that stage is so cool! Appreciate your videos and your insights. 👍

This is a fun song with an important message. I love it especially the stage versions where they have a blast on the inflatable set. Maybe in musical production terms it’s not the best but I think a more complicated production wouldn’t have worked for this. I’m pleased that you gave an honest reaction to it.

Anpanman is a live fun song. When they did it concert they had a huge blow up playground. It’s just fun and light. It’s about a Japanese superhero made of bread who feeds the people himself. So you give what you can, and be a superhero.

This is a favorite of mine!! (Song and performances) Sad it wasn’t super great to you. I think if you dove more into the lyrics you might enjoy the song more. At least I do…however we all can have our own opinions.
