you need to dive into bts more because their group work is WAAAAY MORE than just fun music their english songs are dumbed down because western music critics have a hard time grasping onto complex concepts. their group work is JUST as good as the solo projects so take a look into them more and you’ll get the feel.

Kinda an insult to BTS to say their English songs are dumbed down yet you’re not wrong that folks just can’t understand BTS at all when it’s in a different language but translations do exist, some actually good ones 😂

Butter apparently being Korean slang for something sounding too “white/American” (edit: I was told I meant that you sounded "western" or "like an native English speaker" actually, but will keep original too, so comments below makes sense, and because that is what Eric Nam said it meant. So I took it at face value. Still think it makes sense as a subtle diss with the new meaning too) could kinda be a fun subtle diss against not getting US recognition if it ain't in English 😉

@@LintonWilson I stumbled across the information recently (I wonder why, haha), and feel a great need to share it. Should mention is it generally means so in case of music, like being "too influenced by western music and not Korean enough". Kinda like when they clapped back to their haters about that and made the song Idol.

@@lustwaffe9000 Maybe not, but unless they say so either way specifically, then it is like Schrödinger’s cat. But it is an English song with perhaps a more-ish western sound to it than they generally have. And butter is slang used in the Korean Music Industry to refer to something being “too westernized” or “too American” (I think it was Eric Nam mentioned it in a podcast some years ago?). So yes, we will probably never know for sure, but their history of making subtle digs at society all throughout their discography does lend a little bit of credibility to the idea 😉 And if not, then a least I can appreciate that it can be understood as such even if it wasn’t meant like that. But, I think personally that it could make sense, given how they have written digs at things in the past 🤣 and have a good laugh about it.

I'm sorry you've had issues with army in the past, please don't let those individuals darker your thoughts of all of us as a whole. There are a lot of mature army out there but we can be quite protective of our boys when we feel necessary. Anyway I'm sure you'll come to find as you dive deeper they have deeper songs as a group as well and more fun songs. I love this song personally. I love all of their songs just some more than others. I'll have to go back and watch your other BTS reactions tomorrow. 💜💛💜💛

Bts make 1 song you dance to and then 5 songs you can cry too.Bts has saved my life solely with their lyrics. They touch social subjects that are very less talked about. Bts are the deepest artists in business. Everything is there for a reason. They have a storyline that connects all mvs. Their songs draw inspiration from so many literary works....

I highly recommend looking into the Bangtan Universe storyline and at some of their darker concepts. With the exception of a few tracks like Dynamite, most of their group themes are just as complex as their solo work. I am really enjoying you starting to dive into who BTS are as artists and with as much thought and attention as you put into your reviews, I think you will sincerely appreciate what they have to say with their craft. :)

Couple of thoughts. One is that BTS’s voices are dimensional and colorful, and that’s maybe why you said that you felt color despite the opening being black and white. I listened to the instrumental on Spotify, and then I listened to the vocal version. It’s clear that the voices comprise seven distinct instruments, which layer over the pure instrumentals, and lift the song up and blow it up into multiple dimensions. The other point is that BTS does not sing at us. They sing *to* us. That is a huge distinction. They engage us even when we are resistant. Because they actually really truly care about us. They somehow manage to see their millions of audience members as a huge collection of individuals with a lot of character and personality variety, and they talk to us as if they are our cousins sitting across the couch from us, and they talk to us using music and dance. This is why. This is why. This is why BTS.

I think that this year, with everything that is going on in the world, BTS chose to make happy global bops for everyone to enjoy. Dynamite and Butter made me so happy, I love both songs so much and I'm very thankful for them. But, like everyone is saying, their group projects have incredible depth too, Dynamite and Butter aren't really representative of their other stuff. As you probably noticed, the boys like to experiment with many different genres of music. I believe they used this pop funk retro theme because it's trendy this year and perfect for bright and fun songs. They still managed to stand out tho and I'm sure they will try new genres again soon ! I'm looking forward to see your next reactions to their other songs and can't wait to see what you think of their crazy storyline and their bside tracks (most of their bsides are soo clever and meaningful) You've just checked out the tip of the iceberg right now ;) I appreciate your honesty so much tho and I agree that their solo work adds a lot to our perception of the boys :))

I couldn't stop smiling at it as the song is so catchy and I now have the chorus stuck in my head. The vocals are amazing and the raps omg I love then so much. And omg the styles are amazing they look amazing in what wver they wear. The MV itself is amazing as ever and the choreo is on point like always. I literally have no words how I'm feeling right now but all I know is this entire MV and song is making me smile and feel so happy. Also Yoongi, Jin (my ult bias wreckers) and Jimin (my ult bias) just stole my heart in this song and MV. Let's " Get it, Let it roll"

I feel like this is one of those songs you have to play through to really get the full effect. I think all the pausing really takes away from it. I’m an advocate for reactors watching things through fully once then going back and pausing a second time to talk properly. I just don’t think you can understand or hear a song completely by pausing every 2 seconds the first time you hear it. It’s a short song so I think that throws it off a bit when you first listen to it. But once you get it through your brain a couple of times and you get used to the pacing, it really is great to listen to. I love it

BTS songs that you need to listen to that are deeper than what you've reacted to so far: Moving On - about them moving out from their old dorm they spent their hardest years on Ma City - each member reppin their city they came from Magic Shop - mental healing through music and each other Tomorrow - being positive and holding on through tough times Baepsae - anti-boomer anthem Spinebreaker - speaking against spoiled kids in korea 2nd Grade - talking about being a senior to newer artists but still being a junior to artists they look up to Whalien 52 - a fable turned into a song about a whale that tries to communicate but can't those are just simple sentences of what the song is about but you really have to listen to enjoy it if you're really into the deep stuff bts comes up with, also there are more songs that I haven't put in, just the best ones imo. also some of those are still fun songs regardless!

Love that you're honest about it not being your absolute favorite. It's not mine either, but I can still recognize it as a bop that I wouldn't mind hearing on the radio ;0 I can't wait (as in excited, pls PLS take your time with your exploration of BTS's music and other groups!!) for you to get to the BTS Universe storyline that people keep talking about. I also can't wait for you to maybe get into some B-sides (non-title tracks, like 13430 or Paradise, or the rapline's cyphers) in the future, they're just as good imo but not talked about so much bc there's no MVs. Also props to you for taking your time with this! I love that you're going through in your own way, at your own pace. My favorite part of these videos is seeing people learn about new things they enjoy, so I'm glad you're reacting to things you want to see! Also super glad that you're pausing a lot and reacting to things as you think of them, that's what we're watching for :P (plus, you can always listen fully through a different time lol) Your videos have been rec'd to me a lot recently, and I finally caved and watched one; have binged a bunch since, and I'm excited to hear your commentary and input in the future !! You, along with people in the comments, are pointing out things I never even noticed before, and it feels like I'm discovering BTS all over again sometimes in a new light, even after 6 years. I love Dynamite and Butter because they opened the door for me. They actually play those on the radio here in Montana, so I heard them and became curious about BTS and wanted to learn more. I started out just wanting to be able to tell them apart. I watched an introduction video, and whoop...into the rabbit hole I fell. Now I'm learning Korean and loving their Korean songs more than the English ones because of the depth and emotion exhibited in them. I found the best extended family a person could ask for in ARMY.

Hey Linton, just wanna say I really enjoy your content. You were very respectful - as always - hey we all got different tastes! I loved butter because it made my heart flutter and it put a smile on my face in such dark days I've been facing and it was the boys' goal all along so they did nail it. I am gonna join the "dig deeper into their group discography" chorus cause you'll see they really concern about showcasing their individualities even as one big (the greatest ♥) group. HOpe you don't take our words too harshly we're just very passionate about our boys (: Have a good day!

Hi Linton. You've got to see this for what it is, a summer bop meant to break into North America and and take over and make ARMY love them even more. Like Dynamite this was not written or produced by them, though RM joins a handful of others on the writing credits and had a lot of input on the rap verses. Even BTS songs that seem happy and light are full of symbolism and lyricism that run much deeper and these summer bops are apart from the body of work they have written and produced. When you get around to it, ARMY's encyclopedic knowledge will be at your fingertips. Always love your reactions and remember, stan a group that stans you back. Also that amazing end run when V was in the elevator was Jungkook, our own smooth criminal.

You already assume so much while you only reacted to like 1% of their discography so I’m not gonna spoil anything for you but this track is just a fun summer song like dynamite ;) their Korean songs def hold more meaning and you have to read between the lines! Even with group projects you can feel/hear their individuality, you just have to react to some more songs and not only title tracks but bsides too and their SoundCloud songs...

According to their press com, that exactly is the purpose of Butter, it's a simple song, a feel good song, a summer bop and what the world needs right now. BTS has such a vast understanding of different genres. I personally love this song, i even like it better than Dynamite, dare I say. Not all song need to be deep, and trust me BTS has a lot of deep and meaningful and even confusing songs. I suggest you explore more of BTS catalog more, but as you said you want to do it at your own pace, to have a better grasp of why they do things/produce songs such as Dynamite and Butter. It's essentially for the fans, they love their fans, they do this for the fans and it;s such a good thing that while they perform they have so much joy.

That’s OK, it doesn’t have to be your favorite song! It just has to be a song that you listen to and you enjoy and you think it’s super fun. On that count I think they succeeded. It’s definitely a fun summer dance song and I am so here for that!! When I listen to this video I forget about my troubles for a few minutes and I appreciate the positivity these seven young men bring into my life. That’s good enough for me. Thanks for your honest review, I enjoyed it.

Their Korean lyrics will honestly end you. ARMY has had to read text books to understand the concepts that they tackle in their songs. English tracks (although they only have two) are watered down for American audiences and critics. Western critics would never be able to decipher traditional cultural concepts and commentary on society, not because it's hard but because they don't want to put the time into it.

facts, the American Music Industry is so superficial (i can especially say this as an American)... they dont want to hear anything that isnt English, the farthest they go is spanish. and if the lyrics are too complex they either dont want to put the effort cause "its too much work" or they say that the artist is "just trying too hard" sorry for the mini rant
@killinglonliness88
@killinglonliness88 3 жыл бұрын
So much stupidity and ignorance in your comment, it's truly amazing. As if all American music is shallow and none of it targets deep subjects.. Smh. Sure most pop isn't too deep because it's for FUN and dancing, that's the point of pop. You want deep go for rock, country, soul, R&B... You should educate yourself before making a fool of yourself more.
@kentokim
@kentokim 3 жыл бұрын
@@killinglonliness88 'educate yourself' maybe that should be you because I wasn't refering to American music but American critic's. Maybe you should read Bryon Rolli's article for Forbes where he states that Dynamite blew up because it was palatable for the GP American audiences while he hopes they take the time to listen to Black Swan and On. I don't think you realise that pop encompasses all the genres you named either.
