You've heard parts of 'Butterfly' in 'On Stage: Prologue'(Storyline) mv. This song is so powerful. When I first heard it, I wanted to know the meaning behind it. This is what I found. "Yoongi wrote it in hope to express the fear of losing someone by using the similar of a butterfly. It’s meant to represent the fact that everything and anyone can be lost at a moments notice if you don’t pay attention. But it mostly seems like the fear of losing someone who brings you so much happiness. There’s also a hint of trying to save someone before they do something they regret or something they won’t come back from."

I can't remember if he choreographed all of this or just part of it, but Brian Puspos did the choreo for this as well as Jimin's "Serendipity".

The dance depicts the butterfly coming out of its cocoon until it spreads its wings, that is why they are so closely spaced together in the beginning and then the butterfly spreads its wings for the first time. Also the more abrupt movements imitate the very erratic flight of butterflies.

People differ about what the song means, but once I read the lyrics it hit hard. Months after that I discovered the BU and it really made sense. As an old dancer I can say the guys are simply amazing. They can do so many styles incredibly well. They can “hit hard” yet be so fluid when the song requires a more contemporary style. And their lines! (Butter-Grammy stage)-Sorry geeked out for a second. From deep lyrics, songs to their fans, and multiple genre productions, they are truly a unicorn, not only in K-pop, but the music industry as a whole. There is simply a magic that is BTS. Full stop.

Butterfly is a BU song from Prologue. The lyrics along with being free standing, also are tailored to convey Jin's emotions and realizations at the point in the storyline of Prologue. Sadly, a "definitive" list of BU tracks has been promulgated and Butterfly was not included. I am guessing this is because younger people are more inclined to like fast changing visuals as in BTS mvs than they are to like a slower moving cinematic presentation like Prologue. The result is Butterfly which is a fabulous song is rarely given its props. Prologue snippets which are presented to color various scenes have left many lyrically uncurious. As such, BU reactors rarely pushed to review Butterfly despite its many lyrical rewards. All I can say is just like with vacations, if you have a tour guide you will see what that guide wants you to see even if it means skipping certain sites.

What you see as slow ones are INTERPRETIVE dancing. Very sophisticated choreo! That was the case for TOMORROW and also this one. If you don’t delve into the Lyrics you miss so so much! Butterfly, from HYYH (The Most Beautiful Moments inLife) is a poignant song which many have interpreted as feeling helpless about losing friends/youths (butterflies) to suicide. You gotta look at the lyrics! Then only will you appreciate the genius of these choreos!
