V is born in December (thus winter) and his parents called him a “bear” when he was small. Thus “winter bear”. This song was said to have been written for his Grandmother who has passed away. She took care of him when he was young.

I don't think he ever said anything about it being written for his grandmother. To my knowledge, it was inspired by the movie "About Time". He talked about it in a Vlive around the time Winter Bear was release.

Winter Bear is inspired by the movie "About Time". He wrote the lyrics after watching the movie during BTS world tour. In the movie, there is a scene where the male lead kneels down to propose to the female lead in bed. V was so inspired by the scene that he created this sweet lullaby. And DJ will love to know that Jimin loves this song. Jimin also mentioned that he listened to this song everyday before bed. This song is so beautiful. I love it sm

Tae’s voice is like a warm hug. My twins and I fall asleep to it every night. He writes some amazing songs. You should check out Sweet Night, Christmas Tree, Snow Flower and Scenery. These are ALL such amazing songs.

When tae sings in higher notes there's always that rich honey texture in his voice that holds so much warmth, as if he wants to wrap you and cover your soul with these wonderful emotions, he never fails to heal me with his lovely voice and gives me so much peace! I recommend more of his songs such as: scenery, inner child, snow flower, sweet night and Christmas tree which is now my currently most played song by him💜

Supposedly V released this on the third anniversary of the passing of his beloved grandmother who did much to raise him as a child. I personally see scenes from all over the world including my hometown of Chicago. Given every one of the scenes is alone combined with the lonely tenor of the song, I think it both is a tribute to his grandmother and showing a reflection of personal experiences he cannot share with her. These symbolize how the child she raised has gone on to maturely experience life. Ultimately V's reflections move backward referencing they came from somewhere. That somewhere in my opinion is the childhood she was so much a part of, though we only have the term winter (aged) bear (source of strength) resting peacefully to indicate the wellspring. I think V painted a tonal poem and though I initially hungered for a second verse I now understand the work as complete. It was meant to be heard with the video not alone so treating as something which can be separated I think would be to miss the point.

So glad to see this. Also don't miss Scenery, by V as well. And also Sweet Night (which is the soundtrack for a K drama but you can just watch a lyric video; the drama-related MV is a bit distracting, and people lose focus on the song itself - just IMHO). V was my first bias, the one who got me into BTS, and I was so pleasantly surprised that he turned out to be the one with the most tender sensibility, solo-song-wise, among the seven. 😊

Hi Guys…thank you so much, I requested this awhile back and I am not the only one, but this is one of my favorite songs by a Member of BTS…V. I absolutely love his voice and yes he can hit the high notes, he just doesn’t do it all the time. There are many Theories about the meaning of this song. Visa and a V live with Jimin and JHope it was regarding a movie he watch called About Time, scene where the character asked a woman to marry him while she was falling asleep. I don’t believe he has ever mentioned it was regarding his grandmother passed away. There’s also another theory it was to ARMY, such as the line, “ imagine your face say hello to me that all the bad days they are nothing to me with you.” I am not going to go to deep in regard to theories, I just know that thE emotion that I hear in V’s voice that he does miss someone. Whether it is his grandmother, his family, or ARMY. Will you be reacting to BTS Comeback tomorrow? I do know Army requests that reactors wait 24 hours before posting their reactions to their comebacks. The reason for this is so that we can spend the 24 hours streaming this song or songs on KZbin.
