Kim Taeyhung wrote this song after the death of his grandmother. Her death hit him hard since his grandparents raised him since his parents were busy with work, they would visit him every weekend. She died in Winter, which is why he named the song "Winter Bear," bears hibernate in Winter so in the song he says "good night " It's a beautiful song. I'm glad that you shared it with your friend.

V was heartbroken when he heard that his grandma passed when his not there to be with her. We were raised by our grandma too and we can relate to V. When my grandma passed away it's like Heaven and Earth gallon us. It's really painful if someone's very close to you passed. Even if we see him smiling, deep inside his heart is sad. Remember when Jimin consoling him on Christmas, Jimin asked V what's going on. V mentioned he missed his grandma so much. And then Jimin said that your grandma is the luckiest person in Korea right now because of V's achievements. Jimin is always be there for V. He wants to go back in time to see all the people he has lost due to his busy schedule. Especially his grandma.. He saw a movie about going back in time and doing the things he should have. Some people will tell you it’s not about his grandma or grandpa or friends who were idols that committed suicide, but Tae doesn’t usually write a nothing song! This song has deep meaning! All in English, his first one and the first one for the team! Tae also always talks about angels, although he has admitted he is not a religious person or of a religion. But he does believe in angels. I believe in my heart that he believes his grandmother is an angel, and in the song Blue and Grey, where he is admitting his fight with depression (which we all go through at some time or another, so don’t go after me about drugs. He never mentioned anything about clinical depression, but he did take a pill with his daily breakfast, could be a vitamin, or an anti depressant…it doesn’t matter because I’m not talking about that) and asking where is his angel….I believe the angel he is calling for is his grandma. I recently lost my mom, my brother in law (probably today) 2 dogs and a cat. I know the animals sound frivolous, but they are like children and I have had them since babies, 2 were solely mine…as they preferred me to hubby……anyway…..off track….I miss them all terribly. The days I lost my pets, I went to my photos and looked at my mom holding all 5 of my Shih Tzus and the Maine Coon (rescue) that we said good bye to all around Christmas and I cried my eyes out for hours with each one. Still seeing that photo with my moms beautiful smile, just so pleased all of the animals(except two big dogs and two other cats) were on her lap. One was snuggled under her chin……she is my angel along with my dad. Every time I am down now I listen to a song called Clouds……and it reminds me of angels. So I understand the meaning of loss and the raw hurt you feel. I am still going through it. I know the feeling of wanting to time travel and visit with my mom and dance with my dad again. Tell them everyday I loved them and how grateful I am for the best life they could give 4 kids. We are only in our earthly bodies for so long, so make the very best of everyday and treat those that you love like it’s the last time you will ever see them.

Winter bear resonates with me so much because it reminds me of the passing of my aunt in 2018 who was like my second mother. The way I interrupt Tae walking backwards near the end is as if he's looking back at the fond memories, not wanting to forget them then that expression before he turns & walks forward feels like acceptance of what has happened & being at peace with it. I can say from personal experience, rather than looking at the sadness of what you have lost, be at peace with the wonderful memories you have of that person. 💜

Some say this song is his love for army... but I believe since this was released on the anniversary of his grandmother's passing.. who passed in 2016, as many know she raised him for 14 years...the winter bear is her, and in the song he's expressing that he misses her and wishes she's resting peacefully...she also used to call him Bear when he was young...

This song makes me cry every time...reminds me of my late sister who loved bears (kind of an odd trigger lol). I don't cry sad tears...they are more like not quite happy 'i miss you' memories kind of tears. I love V for this song. Thank you for reacting to it ❤
