It's a common thing to shed waterweight before major filming, to look the most lean and toned, so all the sportsmen/actors/models/artists do that. 5days is too much,probably said for the dramatics,usually it's 48-72 hrs. Do armys love them in any shape or form? Sure. But it's their choice and if supervised, these things aren't harmful
