The fact this video only covers just a small percent of the hate, racism, and xenophobia they have experienced is mind boggling. I get BTS music not being for everyone, but I really don't understand the hate and even threats they get. They are just 7 young men who love to make music and perform and they aren't hurting anyone by doing so. Not to mention they do so much philanthropy outside of music and haters even refuse to acknowledge that. I'm convinced BTS could discover the cure for cancer and people would still find the smallest things to hate them for. Don't like their music, just go and listen to something else. I also hate when people will say it's not BTS they hate, it's the fans. Well that's also easy, don't interact with the fans. But from experience ARMY are some of the most nice and respectful fans out there. Every fandom has toxicity and people act like it's just BTS who has fans that take it too far. When I went to Suga's solo concert back in May I went by myself but I didn't feel alone at all. It was like we were 1 big family and fans were handing out free goodies to people waiting in line. BTS for me has been a positive light in a world full of negativity and hate and for that I'm forever grateful.

Bang Si-Hyuk is a genius. When the Big 3 Kpop companies tried to squash BTS in the early days, he went around them by sending BTS overseas and developing a fan base on social media. When S Korean media tried to control the flow of info re BTS, Bang PD went around them and released info internationally. (I saw a broadcast where 2 Korean men said that they only found out about BTS winning the AMA award in the US through a broadcast from Indonesia. It wasn't reported in Korea for almost a week and then was downplayed.) On top of that he developed Weverse, a streaming platform made especially for fans where one can access video content, chat with artists, buy merch, etc. Big Hit/HYBE completely pulled out of Vlive (which was used up to that point-- and is now defunct). Bang PD has a game plan. He often goes live explaining his vision of where the company is headed. I think he's really going to change the industry.

The crazy thing is, the song(s) they're talking about, they are MILD compared to what others did, but back then, fandoms were just throwing everything at them, hoping something would stick. I think it's so AMAZING that BTS now, as big as they are, don't ever mention the hardships in a bad way or even name any fandoms that went after them. They still only bring positive music, lyrics, & messages and even friends with some of the other groups that their fandoms went after them. BTS says, don't hold grudges, don't retaliate, just be positive. They were all so young too going through all of that, just so sad that so MANY (adults too), worked so hard to break them. It's crazy and sad, BTS & ARMY having to fight two music industries, the K Pop did not want them at all, tried their best to keep them down and the west, always changing the rules in the BBMA (to this day) to try to keep BTS out and creating a different chart to keep English speaking artists on top. They have NEVER bought any awards, magazine covers or radio play (this is why only their English songs) are played. KZbin and Spotify, how they delete views and streaming, BTS & BTS solo projects, Bora City is a great resource to see all of this. From the beginning they really had to fight, BTS developing a lot of their own content like BTS RUN, In The Soop and more, developing an app like Weverse, they had to create/develop ways just to be able to present themselves on a platform. Unlike artists from the BIG 3, provided, given and bought platforms for their artists/idols promotional materials. Hearing from ARMY that have been there from the beginning, saying the amount of hate they receive(d) was unprecedented. Their success now, unprecedent, they deserve it and more but it does not excuse what BTS & ARMY went through and still go through. I admire the strength of BTS for how young they were and they persevered, come out of all that still sharing positivity, and being humble, just AMAZING.

From a fandom perspective, all of this boils down to JEALOUSY!! Other groups felt threatened, and they and/or their fandoms sought opportunities to bring BTS down. Scandals and bad press in SK can bring down a group or celebrity overnight. I honestly think that was their goal.

6:52 anti-fans, obnoxious haters, were tweeting out "kick out j hope," claiming he's not talented enough to be an idol, nor is he attractive enough because he didn't fit Korean beauty standards. ARMYs were understandably upset over this, and worried about j hopes mental health, because since it was trending, he surely saw it. So they tweeted "j hope you're perfect" to let him know he's loved and to cheer him up. 💜 Eta: 9:22 he didn't "have" to do it, he chose to do it on his own, because he genuinely cares that he upset fans, and wanted to study up on it and learn about why it's not cool to objectify women. BTS write music for everyone, to help them in their lives, he wasn't happy that something he wrote offended people. As an American, were his lyrics *that* bad? No. But do I appreciate and respect his decision to do that? Absolutely! He didn't intentionally write lyrics that objectified women, he didn't understand why they were upset. But instead of just glossing over it or doubling down, he studied and educated himself and fixed it. 14:48 some people can't seem to exist without hatred. They're usually not happy in their own lives and just want to be jerks. As you said, why would they do that on a channel that promotes positivity. BTS got death threats during their *love yourself* tour lol, I say lol not because death threats are funny, it just goes to show you there are people like you were talking about regarding your channels hate comments. How bad do you have to be to give death threats to someone who's mission statement, and their tour, was all about love and kindness. Sometimes people are just hateful by nature. You should watch the lyrics to their song ugh, and then watch dkdktv "ugh explained by a Korean". It's a song discussing useless anger that contains malice. You'll understand why I recommended that song, it relates to what you were just talking about. 😊 I also want to point out that the majority of kpop fans are teenagers, children, & maybe some young adults/late teens. BTS fans are different. Not to say there isn't some toxic ARMY (though I call those people fans, not ARMY) but BTS has transcended "kpop". BTS fans are often older. So some of this stuff, like other groups fans hating on them, are younger people. Just my opinion of why some of the really ridiculous accusations occur. (Not hating on teens and kids, I did stupid and sometimes mean stuff as a teen too ofc. And a lot of kids/teens aren't like that ofc!) 💜 18:38 yeah death threats in general are like... wtf.... and to threaten people who preach kindness and love, like, wtf is wrong with people?!

Those who took part in the mistreatment and hatred of BTS are truly vile disgusting and vicious. What makes me angry is that they all know who they are so whenever they are called out they act like victims and make excuses for what they did. In reality there's no excuse for acting like a malicious spiteful and hateful person. All the other group and their fandoms played their part too. In the new BTS book beyond the story Suga said " why did they hate us so much ". I think that line is absolutely heartbreaking. Those responsible are not sorry either. Anyway this is why army are often called toxic because we protect BTS and correct any ill intentioned and incorrect information. No one has ever apologised to BTS. You will probably notice as you fall deeper into the BTS rabbit hole fans of other groups will be in the comments saying things like if you like BTS then you will like ... this is borne out of the fact they are jealous of BTS success. To give you some idea BTS contribution to the industry is over 80% all the other groups and there are a lot of them are in the less than 20% contribution that includes blackpink. Watch out for their fans, very cruel in their hatred towards BTS.

I only have one regret. Not being open-minded to them sooner. I can't believe it took me this long and now that they are on hiatus did I opened up to their music. And my bias is in the military. I used to avoid kpop especially BTS since I don't like popular and superficial stuff, why would I obsess over people just because of their looks? I would say kpop peak popularity was during the Halyu era, year 2016-2017 that's when kpop was becoming more mainstream globally. Of course I've heard few of their songs before but it just didn't click at that time. I now know why, first is I probably didn't bother to look up the translations and even if I did, I'm not ashamed to admit that I wasn't mentally mature enough to understand the layers of their lyrics. I'm now in college, one of the most stressful moment of my life, one time I was very depressed about a certain incident that's when I stumbled a video of them being dorks and just funny on daily basis even in interviews, which was very interesting to me, one of the biggest band is very goofy. And I fell in love of how they love each other. I watched the introduction video too. After that I listened to the songs I've already heard, I realized that most of their love songs are actually not about a love interest but for their fans or for themselves or their love for their craft. I most love their songs for mental health, and without me noticing I was healed, my priority shifted, I was now prioritizing my happiness which I never knew I lacked. BTS really did find me when I needed them the most. Even if I'm late, I will not be letting go of them now. They also have very concious music, they tackled about education system which I strongly agree. Social commentary, justice, capitalism, liberation, societal expectations, psychology. Their songs and MV's are so deep and so complex that there would be a need for explanation videos from Korean Armys. There is even a site called Doulset, that breaks down each lines and context. Enjoy your journey, we'll be here for a long time.

I’m so happy for you. I’m 63 years old and BTS found me when I was at my worst in 2021. My husband died 7 months after he was diagnosed with late stage of dementia and shortly after the diagnosis he became 100 % dependent. I stayed strong during the illness but fell apart after he died. I was so depressed that I became a different person. Finding BTS brought a smile and a light bulb on in my head. I’m finally doing better now. I can’t live without BTS. If you watch The Rise of Bangtan, I highly recommend you use that as the time to explore their albums. The series starts during their pre-debut. You could listen to their first album when getting into the second episode so you know what they're singing about and what they're standing for during that time. The second episode will get into why some of the songs are import, so it might be good to hear them first. I think you'd also be getting something close to an authentic experience because you'd be listening to the music we were as these things were going on. Though, obviously that's all just a suggestion. I'm not trying to tell you what to do or anything like that. Thank you for your reaction!

@@555Vibes though as a woman myself I don't find it misogynistic, nor was there hate about women. The lyrics literally just says "women are gifts".. but I also get why it could be taken as if women are just prizes or materials. But then again they were teenagers at this point and the lyrics were their perspective of the shift of their adulthood. Like why they can't explain why they are attracted to girls. And the title has the answer already. It was WAR OF HORMONES. And btw someone pointed out that in the MV they were cat-calling the girl. But the girl chose Taehyung because he was the most respectful. So clearly they were sending a message here.

No matter how hard I try to understand the haters, I just can't. It's okay to hate someone or something with no reason. I too, sometimes feel that way. But if I hate something, I'd ignore it and focus on something I love. I can't understand why they'd go all the way to waste their time watching something they hate just so they can leave hate comments or make fun of them or offend them. It's a waste of time and effort. It would be better to use all those times enjoying myself, watching the things I love.

I’m so glad you did this video. Learning some of the hardships BTS went through, helps you connect with their music because they write about their struggles or their music is a response to the hate they receive. You also have a clear picture to why Army is protective of them. But even with all this, BTS has chosen to be different and become amazing role models to those who are following their steps. It’s so beautiful to see how they mentor and encourage the younger generation. This was something they never had but they are now choosing to be better. They are so humble and have never allowed their fame to change them. Now to watch you react to their music and everything else they have to offer. If you get the chance. Watch these videos. These are from their first Daesang. Watch their faces. No one outside the 3 big companies had won. They never expected it. On the misogynistic lyrics… they weren’t on purpose and it is not at all something that many young men don’t think and say all time. But BTS’s fans are, to a large extent, women, and also they hold themselves to a high moral standard. I don’t think intentionality is super important here, we’re all in a journey to become better people and I think RM took that very seriously. If a man doesn’t open himself to fully and deeply understand gender issues in society, he will reproduce the same patterns as what he sees around himself.

As someone has already stated, this is only a portion of the hate and sabotage that BTS has experienced. That instance she mentioned about Japan being angry with BTS for one member wearing a shirt concerning WWII, resulted in Nazis making serious death threats against BTS with other kpop fandoms egging them on. When she mentions "antis", she is talking about "anti-fans" or people who purposely try to harm BTS and ARMY's reputation. I've been following them for almost 3 years now and I've seen some crazy stuff. They STILL find anything and everything they can to create controversy around BTS and their members. It's actually become worse now that they have been on hiatus as a group because other fandoms want to cause as much damage as they can while they are not together. And their efforts are creepily organized. Charts and streaming companies in both the eastern and western music industry keep coming up with rule changes and "glitches" that mysteriously only affect BTS. There is truth in what that one man was saying in this video that the Korean media and music industries try to downplay them because they didn't achieve their status through their system. The American music industry humored them briefly because they probably assumed they would be like Psy and have one or two hits and disappear. But they don't like that they aren't going away. BTS needs an ARMY to protect them. Without the amazing loving, intelligent, organized fandom of ARMY, they could easily have been overwhelmed with all of the hatred thrown at them. But we drown it out with love.

On my way to watch your next reaction to The Rise of Bangtan!! It's interesting to see you going about your BTS journey in this way. Most reactors hop into their popular songs and eventually, over time, get the history of BTS, but you're doing the opposite. I can tell you're already invested in them as people and you haven't even heard their music. It's kind of funny, but that's the thing about being ARMY. We love their music, of course, for most of us that's where it all started, but we love them as PEOPLE too. Everything that they accomplished, how they inspired us to do our best, keep following our dreams, and be ourselves, is the capstone of everything that they stand for. ARMY will go to the ends of the earth for these men because just as much as we love them, they love us. That's what being in the ARMY is really about.

20:45 This is not super clear, but basically this is YEARS after the original accusation and this reporter was later found to be in the pay of another label (doing articles on the other label's website.) He only asked the question at the press conference, for a completely different album series, in order to keep the issue in the news cycle as a manufactured controversy and to possibly get BTS to say something maybe angry or upset in response so they can twist their response. But BTS never rises to this kind of bait. The accusation itself was over a French photographer's work and the photographer himself said he considered it an honor to inspire other artists, not plagiarism, and he never had a problem with anything he saw from BTS. It was a manufactured controversy, like all of them have been, cooked up by enemy labels and antis. 28:45 Did you catch all that? The other companies used BTS as an example why their own artists should get postponements, even though BTS didn't ask for that. Then the government said, fine, you can have a postponement if you have won the medal that BTS has won for cultural contributions to the country. Except BTS are the only ones this law would really apply to, as most of the people who win this award are much older and have been in their careers much longer and have already done their military service. BTS were the youngest ever recipients. Regarding their military service, two members are already serving now (Jin and j-hope) and another (Suga) announced his enlistment is in the paperwork process and we expect him to go in any day now. The rest should follow this year.

BTS has probably received more unwarranted hate than just about any other group. There are mutliple reasons they were targeted. One reason is them being underdogs and industry outsiders, without powerful friends in the industry or a powerful agency to protect them. The first few years, their company could not even afford lawyers to defend them and they just had to take it on the chin. Another reason is the fact that their CEO of Big Hit, Bang PD, left a large label to start his own company specifically because he wanted to stage a musical revolution. He didn't like the way the music industry was run and wanted to prize artistic freedom and respecting the artists first. Big Hit's motto is "Music and Artist for Healing" and BTS has a self imposed mission to bring love and healing to the world through music. So BTS' success represented an existential threat to the status quo and the current power structure in the S Korean and now global music industry. That continues to be true, and they continue to face industry suppression. See Boracity's Magazine's "why the music industry is terrified of BTS" video for more info on that. Another reason is their insane level of talent, which caused the big labels that control the industry to immediately sit up and take notice of them as a threat to their own groups and organize hate campaigns and an industry lockout of BTS in S Korea. They were subsequently mistreated by the many entities that had ties to the large labels, like show hosts, networks, journalists, magazines, event venues, etc. This and their company's lack of funds for advertising are why BTS turned to the internet to reach fans and stream their own content, something other groups in their industry were not doing at the time. Accidentally and incidentally, it opened them up to a global fanbase. Another reason is their messages of substance tackling soci-political and economic and cultural issues, mental health and other taboo topics and speaking truth to power in their conservative culture. This was highly unusual in their industry. They were seen as upstarts who didn't know their place, particularly coming from a broke label. BTS have adopted the term Baepsae (crow tit, a very small S Korean bird) as a label for the underdogs like them and use it in mutiple songs, including one called Baepsae/Silver Spoon. It's based on a S Korean idiom about birds "A crow tit that tries to follow a stork will split it's legs." The meaning of the saying is that if you are underprivileged or born without advantages like the tiny crow tit or baepsae, don't try to walk the path of someone born with privilege like long legged storks. Know your place and keep to it or you will be destroyed. Instead BTS adopted the Baepsae as a sort of underdog mascot and rallying cry to keep fighting for your dreams and for justice. Another reason they were and are attacked is racism and xenophobia or just plain cultural ignorance about S Korea outside of East Asia. Another reason is jealousy - of their talent or their success. Antis, when she mentions repeatedly in the video are Anti-Fans. People who go out of their way to obsessively attack and hate on someone. The opposite of a fan. People obsessed with hating BTS and who will do things like organize large scale projects to try to attack them, issue mass death threats, fake photos or lie about them or slander them, even pose as ARMY online to behave badly and give ARMy and BTS a bad name. It's seriously nuts. BTS were the first big group to have such a social media presence, to be so open and transparent, raw and real and connected with their fans. So they were the first to become targets of mass hate in this particular way. Their relationship to their fans is still unlike anyone else out there, and their haters are still more virulent and vicious.

A substantial proportion of the anti- behavior came from a fandom of another top tier group who were preoccupied with their favorite three letter group (as seen by the repeated use of 3 *'s to reflect its name) being perceived as Korea's top group. The actual group is extremely talented and not part of this behavior. Indeed, some members are friends with some BTS members. However, the fanbase of this group has a disproportionate number of extreme and often toxic stans. Just in my experience, when I wrote a rather glowing review of that group's work, I was attacked by a number of their fans presumably for not being effusive enough. And that was well after the incidents XCeleste relates so boy was BTS in the crosshairs.

So sad that most of the worst hated happened when they were so young. The music industry has agitated fan wars and attempted to discredit BTS as they did not rise thru the status quo and the same thing is happening now in the US as they can't make money out of them... while using them for clout when they can. The industry couldnt make money off them and BTS also proved you don't need them to get big - so they had to go. BangPD was even offered huge sums to buy them out of contract and they would have been shelved - but BangPD said no. So they started media attacks and fanwar instigation and turned the whole thing of KPop vs BTS/ARMY in a last ditch effort to halt their success. You have to understand it is a $6Bill industry - the big companies/media organisations very greedy - no place for BTS. BTS is now facing the same issues in the US market as they refuse to pay Payola and Spotify money and therefore have huge industry pushback. At first it almost seems unreal - at times I still shake my head at some of the underhanded shenanigans that have gone on. It's almost like the companies see their groups as football teams - you know get the biggest amount of fans,, keep them divided and bring home all the cash. The groups have no say and the fans are just trying to support their favourites. The big problem is that the companies are affiliated with the TV networks over there - they run their charts like it is an XFactor competittion - your group must fight to survive. Most KPop groups fail within the first 100 days. There are 1000s of new KPop groups released each year - 1,000,000 new prespective talent auditioning each year... if You like facts and numbers - watch Rise of Bangtan series it shows you the entire industry and how BTS did it from predebut... your mind will be blown We would love to watch it with you.

I've a feminist and there were nothing wrong with his lyric's in the first place if one heard them in context eg the boys making fun of hormonal teenage boys and one used the correct translation. I think RM went the extra mile to tbh as he clearly didn't want to be accused of demeaning women. Show's he's a man of character.

I'm a woman and I love war of Hormone its a great song and video. The lyrics are so tame compared to the lyrics of western artists who call woman bitches etc. BTS were all teenagers so of course they were full of hormones noticing members of the opposite sex, they had to suppress all that to become the a list Global Superstars they are now. Those saying it's misogynistic were again jealous fans of other groups looking for faults to try stop BTS success. I love the song

So about the "m-i-s-o-g-y-n-i-s-t" lyrics & the controversy...let me clear the misunderstanding k-popies & some ARMYs hv..this was blown out of proportion by h@ters & Antis to create drama that time, which worked cuz k-popies & media latched on it... *This is going to long a$$ comment* Let's be real, War of Hormones wasn't misogynistic. It was just an honest song about what guys in that age range go through. They were straight up saying that they struggle with their hormones when they see a pretty girl, *and guess what? That's just being honest.* 👁️👄👁️ The title itself gives a clear idea to how they see it. A war. An internal conflict. And it's true to what guys in their late teens and early 20s go through. Bangtan has always been about talking about their experiences and being a voice of people their age. The entire album, Dark & Wild, was really just about the turmoils of young adulthood. In the title of the album too, you can already tell what the sentiment was going to be. The first 3 albums spoke about school and issues of teens. And then from there, the darker days of coming to terms with adulthood. And then the HYYH series. Everything was thematic with stories they wanted to tell as they go through life. Antis and fans of other groups were just grasping at straws to find something to shit on and unfortunately the media picked up on it and then some ARMY took it as truth and they themselves started talking as if the song was offensive. It isn't. We need to stop spreading this story as if BTS were misogynistic boys who needed to learn a lesson. Yes, Namjoon has learned a lot from the experience and has gone out of his way to speak to experts in women's studies, but I'm sure that whole ordeal also caused him unnecessary pain. *Now, My personal take on this:* I don't see anything wrong with the lyrics of the song. All boys go through puberty and the things BTS sung in this are just reflective of their experience going through that phase in their lives. This is the reason I love them and their songs.. they didn't hide anything and covered all the feelings/thoughts of a person who is in his/her adolescent...one can see them growing up from then till today…I personally don't find the lyrics offensive and “most” Armys as well..as I agree they are expressing the struggles of dealing with hormonal changes in adolescence, and I'm sorry but sexual attraction is the number one pressing issue in most hormonal teens regardless of gender. There's a couple of issues I take with people who found this offensive. First, the double standard. You can't tell me young women were purely innocent in their thoughts and feelings as they watched these young men dance and sing, they just didn't make a song about it, at least not publicly. Secondly, the entire concept BigHit wanted from BTS is a representation of the youth culture and the issues youth deal with as seen and heard through the lyrics and music of BTS, and of course everyone has or will experience sexual attraction. Yes, they refer to see through clothing and high heels etc, but I've seen hundreds of posts referring to JK's abs, Jimin's body rolls and shoulder "accidents" Tae's tongue...you get the idea, and while many comments aren't necessarily teens it's not a problem. There can only be an issue if the lyrics were implying that I'm only attracted to girls who wear heels and sheer clothing, not sneakers and sweats. Anyone who has experienced adolescence knows however that if they're sexually attracted to someone the person could easily walk around in a potato sack and an adolescent would still be entranced. A lot of people were offended by that line, "Girls are equations and us men just do them". Personally, I took it as "do them" meant they were puzzles to be solved, not a sexual act. RM was honestly shocked that people were offended by the lyrics and that they could be considered misogynistic. It was definitely a learning experience for him. He apologized and has since run his lyrics through a few professionals in women's studies before releasing a new song. They don't really release songs like this any more. *But to that a korean Army said translation in English were a bit off, which lead to misunderstandings and explained it saying : “I was kinda surprised it's translation was "do" because that part "do them" CAN actually sound offensive to some people, because the meaning of that word 'do' is not clear. However I can clearly say that it's not meant that way, and Korean version lyrics tell that. Words are more specific, and not controversial in Korean version lyrics, because it doesn't say 'do. That part in Korean is 여자들은 방정식 우리 남자들은 해 which says we men are 해 is a word for mathematics, and it means the 'answer/the final number'. So it means they solve. the complex minds of the girls. 해 DOES have the meaning of 'do' too, but its not appropriate to translate this part of the lyrics that way, because if u say it means "do them, it doesn't fit the sentence there. Since there's no Objectives for that Verb 'do' and that's... kinda awkward. plus. the context and meaning of the whole sentence is talking abt mathematics and Equations so what u said is true. It doesn't mean sexual way”* it's freaking mistranslation, if you don't belive me ask any korean, not only k-army but any Korean.. it was done to sabotage BTS's career..💀 BTS hv made few mistakes unknowingly early in their career and said things which can be considered offensive, as they were young but they hv re-educated themselves, apologized and never repeated the mistakes again..but I hv seen many k-popies and so called Multi Armys twisting many things because of that..take for example this song.. it's blown out of the proportion just to cause drama..and they were sadly successful in that..haters/antis tried every lil thing to bring BTS down & sabotage their career ngl.. *Now last but not the least* ..when this controversy happened, When joon apologized, The one thing that struck me about that was a part in the statement saying they took so long to apologize because they wanted to understand what exactly was the issue... And that part I definitely liked, I've never been a fan of blanket apologies.. BTS always try to understand the problem & try to improve..joon apologized because as the controversy was over "ppl were offended", he apologized for the ppl who were offended by this song, that doesn't mean the song was wrong, he was kind enough to take responsibility for it, ofc bighit & BTS took this issue (which was blown out of proportion) and apologized so that this unwanted drama surrounding the song would end (isn't that common sense) he sincerely apologised..but that doesn't mean that WOH is misogynist or objectifying women..like the title itself clears it out! "War of hormones" what ppl expected form this song to be like seriously?! Ppl who still want to believe that WOH is objectifying women are really dumb for me..like be practical..that's all i can say🤷🏻‍♀️ *I'm out* 🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♀️
