This is why BTS gets the respect they do. You can't fake true passion for hip hop. People can tell when you know and truly respect a culture and you're not doing it just because it's cool and trendy. Even the vocal line is heavily influenced by hip hop. I thought it was funny when they first came to the US for interviews and the hosts assumed their favs were only basic pop artists and they were like " uhh, no" and then named hip hop and r&b artists instead.

"This is why he's president." Word. I mean... he mentioned KRS-ONE, and I haven't heard that name in YEARS. I was a teenager in the '80s, and I remember me and my friends (even in white bread Connecticut LOL) listening to bootlegs of OG rappers we bought in NYC. This is part of why I have so much respect for our rap line. They're not appropriating culture like so many do... they are appreciating and paying homage to it, as well as taking it and making it their own rather than just copying. I love the way RM admits that in the beginning when he was a kid, that was exactly what he did -- he forced it. But I think that's how we learn. We copy things we admire, and over time, if we keep practicing, we find our voice and make the art our own. I love BTS. That is all.

Love your comment. I'm from Connecticut too, still live here. But honestly BTS has, to me, brought back what I loved about Hip Hop when MC Lyte was on the mic. I love our old school rap. You're right about KRS One he was so far ahead of the game, he got hate from other rappers. To me, RM is the KRS One of today. And I love how when BTS raps it's about something and you can enjoy it.

All of this and more is Hip Hop. It continues to amaze me how we (Black people) finally began to embrace ourselves and created something for ourselves that has grown and is coveted around the world. Some OG Korean hip hop influences they list and reference a lot are Epik High, Verbal Jint, MFBTY (aka Drunken Tiger) and Dynamic Duo. I HIGHLY recommend checking these artists out if you want to see some real Korean hip hop. Rap has always been fused into Kpop since it’s origin in the 90s, but still very manufacturing and pop style of rapping. Only in the last 10 years or so has hip hop become popular and now mainstream in Korea. These artists were the guys doing hip hop in Korea well before it was mainstream and always hitting with the REAL lyrics. like you said, authentic. Both RM and Suga said hearing Epik High as kids is what made them first want to pursue music careers. BTS always pays homage to original western artists and also Korean artists responsible for bringing and making hip hop popular in Korea. What’s really cool is that since they’ve paid homage even since before they were famous RM and BTS have been able to collab or feature with these Korean legends. Same like collabs with Warren G or Wale.

This song is such an often forgotten gem from their early days. A mix of hip hop and r&b is intertwined beautifully. I believe during their interview with Jimmy Fallon he asked about the writing process and RN said the melody comes first then the lyrics. So @4:55 when Blaze was talking about how RM raps to fit the beat or flow he was dead on. I swear Adam's head was about to pop off when JHope verse came through. JHope has said his love of Hip Hop was because of Dance. So even though he wasn't a rapper like RM and Suga at the beginning, he love of the music gave him confidence to try when he took it on. So @9:15 Adam was so on point. *Throughout you'll see they mention a group Epik High which is an og Korean Hip Hop group. You should look into them. They're actually performing at Coachella this year.**

Love your reaction to this! It’s so underrated and I knew you guys would appreciate every detail. The album Dark & Wild was recorded (I think in a garage!) while they were filming AHL in LA as they learned about the origins of hip hop. When you look at this track and others, the timing is definitely not a coincidence. Dark & Wild was very introspective and instrumental in shaping their identity, making it more genuine and individual. As a result, the following HYYH albums (The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. I & II) became their most raw, fully-fledged work up to that point-and honestly probably the most raw we’ll ever see them due to the circumstances surrounding that project. That was when they released “I Need U” and finally found their sound. Coincidentally-or not-so-coincidentally-the HYYH era saved their career. All of BigHit was about to go bankrupt that year in 2015 and this album was literally their “hail Mary” attempt to make it work or at least say something worthwhile before being forced to call it quits. But then “I Need U” started gaining traction and winning awards, followed up by “Dope” and the breathtaking HYYH story trilogy, and even more fans (especially international) began pouring in. The numbers are nothing compared to what they bring in today, but for an underdog group who thought the end of everything was fast approaching? It changed everything. Long story short, the vision of Dark & Wild and songs like “Hip Hop Lover/Phile” planted the seeds for this to happen. It’s so gratifying to see love, hard work, and a genuine vision pay off like it did for BTS and Hitman Bang. They have such a great story and are so easy to root for. You’re easily one of the best reaction channels out here. Thanks for all these great uploads!💜

I remember when hip hop was just starting to take off. My brother and I loved the culture so much, especially me. I taught myself the dances. I learned the raps of the time. I grooved to the beats they were creating and loved every second of it. When I joined the Air Force, house music and dance was just coming out to the mainstream and the black community in my flight embraced this half native american/half caucasian girl into their community because I breathed the music and dance of hip hop. They saw it. They felt it. They knew that I loved it and appreciated it and made it part of who I am. I felt accepted, included, and acknowledged back then. When I found BTS, I was taken back to the old school days. And then when ARMYs accepted me as part of the family, I felt great - like I did back in the day. Man, I love BTS and ARMY. I hope you will still read this comment even if the video is old, I wanted to talk about Yoongi's '' even if people hold me down'' part a little just in case you din' t know yet. Yoongi explained back in the day that he had a very hard time with his parents in school and before debut, because they were radically against his wish of becoming a rapper/musician. They tried everything to stop him, they even took his notebook with all his lyrics and ripped it apart. Yoongi said he sometimes slept in some run down place and apparently even on the street once, in order to not go home but also to not bother friends. His brother always supported him though. Yoongi went through mental health problems then, my uneducated guess is depression, and in his first mixtape he even openly talks about hiding in the bathroom, lying on the floor crying. I have so so so much respect for him because he talks about these things openly, in Korea and especially as a guy you usually get looked down upon and are ridiculed when you struggle with your mental health. He doesn't care no more and talks openly, which is inspiring to young listeners all over the world who might go through the same thing. He isn't even my bias but I just respect him so much. I think true masculinity comes with being confident and open about yourself and your struggles including your failures and admitting that yes indeed he cried. I can't remember which concert it was, I believe in the ''most beautiful moment in life'' era, but I might be wrong, but they had been successfully working as bts for a few years already, when his parents attended one of there concerts for the first time ever, showing their new found support for him, and when he saw them in the audience he had a breakdown and knealt down on the stage and just cried. I don't know if you saw that clip or if other armies had already told you all of this, but I really want you to know how hard he (and the others of course) fought for their dream to be on stage and how much respect Yoongi deserves. I hope you can find this comment on an old video, I love you guys! I think I never commented before but I have been watching you for a long time and liking all videos and I consider becoming a patron for the first time ever because you guys deserve it. You have so much honest respect for the guys, I love that so much. Thank you for listening to this. It was one of the reasons I started listening to them. I started listening to them in 2013 but they became my group in 2014 when that song became part of their writings. So again thank you.

@@WhatchaGot2Say yes!!! I'm glad you finally got to it, and the live version included. It's one of my personal favorites tbh, even if it is a quite underrated song.

One of the reasons why I rock with BTS, is that they give credit where credit is due. I love that! They taught so much in this song. I hope those who don’t know the artists that mentioned to go check out their music!

BTS knew the roots of hip hop. antis and some uneducated ppl tried to brush off their songs as "wannabes". but can't respond ones army pointed out that the ppl who trained BTS are actual pioneers of the genre which includes Warren G and Coolio (yes some army may hate him but he is still a pioneer in hip-hop tho). In the whole season of BTS' reality show American Hustle Life, Coolio gave them the assignment to search WHERE AND WHY hip-hop was created, and what was the first song in that genre. they understood that it was created to make a statement abt equality. for the voices of african americans and latino americans to be heard. and Warren G showed them the neighborhood that nurtured him, and his friend Snoop Dogg. frankly BTS knows more abt hip-hop than most western so called "rappers" today. they know that it's not just "rapping fast" or "go rap abt sex and drugs and you're good". that it was created to say something important to the world. to make a statement.

Go back and listen to all the Cyphers. And THEN listen to this song again! RM, Suga, J-Hope (being a street dancer) had gotten so much flack about becoming idols from the underground rap over there. But I doubt any of them, ANY of them, gave homage to old school like BTS just did. BTS gave credit where credit was due! Without those before them, ANY OF THEM, they wouldn't exist. All the Cyphers are like, "Yo son! What! You mad?! Stay in your lane!" What's crazy, their biggest, BIGGEST critic... What's his name, again? YEAH!!! EXACTLY! Keep bringing the pain BTS! Big Daddy Kan! BTS: Ain't No Half-Steppin'!

This is one react that I can use my maturity to my advantage. First, I LOVE this song. It was a B side track on the Album “Dark & Wild” but I listened to it more than the title track. Why? Cuz the production blew me away, because you can hear the emotions in the boys’ voice as they rapped/sang and it spoke TRUTH and lastly because when I read the lyrics afterwards I was blown away and then crazy reminiscent about the artists named in the song. I also felt closer to the boys after hearing that some of the artists that changed their lives first changed mine many years ago. One of my fave songs from childhood is “They reminisce over you ( T. R. O. Y)” by Pete Rock and C.L Smooth. To hear RM speak those names gave me goosebumps. Same for J Hope coming out with the names “Boogaloo and King Tut” speaking the origin of a street dancer and a Breaker or B-Boy. And of course our D-Boy, Min Genius, Suga, AGUST D himself bought it home by laying down HIS origin story. A quick note, Suga’s parents were NOT happy that he wanted to pursue music as a career. He has an older brother who followed the norm and they wanted their son to be stable but I think maybe knowing that he was very unhappy with his life, they decided to sit back and wait on him to make it or not. When they attended one of his concerts in Seoul I think he was sure they were pretty proud of him just like ARMY is always. And can we talk about the hook?!! As a writer the line “has the scent of humans” made me want to cry it was such a beautiful metaphor. It’s a very clever way of saying HipHop is the TRUTH. HipHop is PURELY HUMAN. In it we speak of our LOVE, our DISSAPOINTMENT, our LOSSES, our AMBITION & DREAMS, our INJUSTICES, our ANGER, our JOY and our QUEST FOR A BETTER TOMORROW. Thank you Nico, Blaze and AJJ for reacting to this song. It was a delight watching you really enjoy this song, watching you dissect it and hearing you add your own thoughts. More please... preferably please react to “Move”. I don’t know if you love those rap storytellers like my fave rapper of ALL TIME... Slick Rick the Ruler but “Move” is definitely one of THOSE songs. It always makes my eyes sweat...😏 there’s also a live so if you can react to it, I can promise you’d really like it. Oh and maybe do it like you did this one.. lyrics and then performance. Thanx guys!😘

The only redeeming things coming out of America Hustle Life are the chance BTS got to return to hiphop roots and the amount of memes Army got from the show :)))

I love the addition of a techno beats. It’s impressive that they rap the the fact that hip hop is Not a thing but a state of mind and a way of life. I go all the way back to the Sugar Hill Gang and its awesome they pay homage to those who paved the way. We’ll Done!

Its interesting listening to a lot of the other Asian artist that try to do HipHop you don't see and feel this type of passion and homage to the true legends of the field. But BTS receives so much hate from them and they can't do half of what they do. (And it Flows !!!!) RM: pitches the ball ( I used to be a flightless bird but it opened my eyes) JHope: takes aim (Hope Hope world, before I made my own world, Cole world ) SUGA: smashes to the outfield (Hip Hop persists in me, If loving this culture is a sin I'll die a hundred times) Loving their beats. #BYSforlife #SUGAforlif #RMforlife #JHopeforlife

He mentioned Eminem in this, and his was the first concert some in the rapline went to. And now BTS 7 is sold more than Eminem’s new released album. No offense to Eminem but look at what your fanboys have achieved :) Im so proud 💜
