Isn't it interesting that the people around BTS when they were young called them weird for liking music in another language written by Black people, the same way folks at your high school called Black girls weird for liking music in another language? Just goes to show that music transcends language. Great job on the reaction, and welcome to the BTS rabbit hole! 💜

While there is a lot of hip-hop influence in the K-pop industry, BTS is one of the only groups that actually credit the people who created and shaped hip-hop. They are actual students of the game.

yeh, i was you too. i heard of BTS, tried not to judge, but i thought they were another typical boyband. it wasn't until 2020, during covid lockdown when i kept hearing of their poppier song, Dynamite, that i started getting curious...that's when i got hooked on the dance practive videos (i thought they must've been a Jabbawockeez hip hop dance crew!) that i started going into their high quality live performances + music videos. it took me a long while to realize they were rooted in hip hop and started out broke because they're so polished now. i mean, i learned they have 3 rappers in the group - the first 3 members - but i didn't realize 2 (RM and SUGA, aka AgustD) came up from the Korean underground rap scene and the 3rd was a streetdancer (JHope). they mix in so many genres too into their body of work (like there's legit something for everyone). and after 10+ years being a solid crew like bros, and even though each member is so different in their personal style, they've found a way to vibe together. anyway, now i'm deep in BTS (been to 4 of their concerts already + will catch a couple shows of SUGA/AgustD's sold out US leg of his tour in May, before he heads into mandatory military enlistment) - these gents don't disappoint. BTS don't hate, they're communicating a message of love for people and cultures through their own language and music, reaching millions of people worldwide who are hearing that message, even if everyone speaks in different languages. what artists today do you know endeavors to do that? in Hip Hop Lover, BTS lets you know who some of those artists are that have reached them and they're passing on the message. respect. please pardon another paragraph for you to read (if you got this far! lol), but really enjoyed your reaction/perspective. thanks!

Hip Hop is in nearly every country of the world and in their own languages. Not saying they all look deeply into the roots of Hip Hop like BTS but there is a lot of respect given if you are interested in it. You just proved how unaware of the rest of the world that the America is. I enjoyed your reaction, it is so funny to see how others react to Hip Hop in another language.

Young man, I am 39 years old woman that grew up in Bulgaria(East Europe), i grew up being fan of 2Pac, Nas, Jay Z and the old golden age. I grew up with hip hop. Now huge fan of BTS, they absolutely slay the stage every single damn time. They approach music with lots of respect and are extremely hard working musicians. Those nonsense that western have about non English art is so freaking shallow and ignorant

BTS first started they came to LA to learn about hip hop in 2013-2014. Their agent wasn't going to let them sing about something they know nothing about. They always loved hip hop as kids, but being in Korea and not black not much history. So for 2-3mos. BTS went to LA and study under Tony Jones, Coolio and Warren G. BTS do their 1st free hip hop concerts in LA you can watch the full episodes 1-17 of LA it's called: BTS America Hustle

I respect that you went back in their discography to understand what they're about. Bts always pay respect & show love to their inspirations. This was a great reaction. I reccomend Born Singer which is their play on J. Cole's Born Sinner. They did their thing. I'd recommend either the 2015 performance or the 2022 performance. Here's the 2015 one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpS4gmaie5iShZo

Here is Born Singer, BTS's remix of Born Sinner by J-Cole. This song remix was written in 2013, the year that BTS debuted as Hip Hop IDOLS in the South Korean KPOP industry. I'd also like to link you an introduction video. You might think it's really long, but it will educate you on where they came from, their impact on the world, and each member's role in the group and their talents. Also, BTS ARMY do not mind longer videos, and we don't mind pausing if you are trying to get to know BTS or need to pause to read lyrics, etc. BTS Born Singer-released (7/11/2013) Live w/Eng. Subs-2015 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpS4gmaie5iShZo A Guide To BTS Members: The Bangtan 7 by Taylor - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqa5kKx_md2Nhrs BTS fans that don't speak Korean usually first discover them through a music video or a song on the radio, and they want to know more, so we look up the lyrics and study them, we watch interviews and behind the scenes and find videos with captions so we can understand what they are saying, We listen to a song so much that we know the Korean lyrics that we may not understand, but we've read the lyrics and studied it, so we know what the song means. Many of us end up learning phrases and words, just by listening to songs so much, and we search out ways to learn Korean, because we love their music so much and want to understand. Then we get to know the individual members through their live streams and variety shows, and it just makes us love them all the more, and want to know what they are saying. So that is hopefully an answer to your question from the previous video about wondering why the girls at your school would listen to a Korean group when they don't know the language. Also, BTS ARMY will translate BTS content almost real time in their languages and post it for other fans to be able to understand. BTS ARMY are over 90 million Globally and growing. BTS has had a huge impact on the world.

You could see their musical integrity, respecting the greats in hip hop, and they are not doing this just to grab attention but you could see how it is integral to their music journey and career. These guys are true hip hop lovers.

They all were born in the 90s, some have older brothers who listened to HipHop, which was the main genre in SK in the 90s with indie music. This is an interview with Warren G and Rap Monster: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJOzZKmYg9mrhLM (the song they did together is PDD) as Warren G puts it, Hip Hop is for everyone ;)

I rarely see people talk about this but I'll be the first to say, I was once a massive hater of Bts and kpop in general. Everyone talked about kpop back in highschool and I was so fed up that I just hated it for no apparent reason. I used to think, "Ew , why would anyone like this generic, gay-a**, group". And I was basically prejudiced for a long time. And when I finally got into listening to them as an adult, I realized I was so wrong and I regret not giving it a chance earlier on. And knowing more about this group, I began being more open-minded to other music and actually appreciating an artists' work, musically and lyrically, more than just listening to it just for the vibes. I went from 0-100 real quick.

I love this song as you can see the distinct relationship each of the rapper has with hip hop. They're all equally talented and yet so different from one another. RM is a poet, and his lyrics are often poetic and filled with wordplay. He's one of the main lyricists in BTS, writing not only his verses but also lyrics for the vocal line. Check out his "Wild Flower" for lyrics or "Joke" for crazy flows. J-hope is a dancer, and his raps are marked with rhythm and flows. He's also the dance leader in BTS, helping other members with the choreography and performance. Check out his "Arson" and "More". Suga is a musician, and his lyrics and delivery are raw and passionate. He has produced a number of songs for BTS, as well as other artists, and has won awards for the songs he produced. Check out his "Daechwita" and "Agust D".
