Also, it hasn't been talked about recently, but now that BTS is enlisting, it might restart the debate, but South Korea was also debating bringing in mandatory service for women as well, especially as the country is experiencing a decline in birth rates.

It was actually one of the arguments as well that was brought forward by the discussion. Why must men give up a part of lives but women not when it comes to military service? Granted, it'd be nice if countries wouldn't need it at all, but not everyone is at peace with their neighbours. Also, as mandatory in S.K has dropped in length, service time is not that long. I am curious though, I'll have to ask my friend as his family is from the U.S. (I'm not), but I know men have to register for the draft in the US, I wonder if women have to too?

Remember, BTS is not enlisting together. The youngest, Jung Kook just turned 26. In 4 years, he will enlist, then 2 years after. You will not see BTS as a whole for 6 years. Suga's background impact is impeccable with his coordination and song writing. He will be gone 3 months after Jin.

@@sheilaigne252 Clearly I'm not BigHit Music or BTS so I don't know what their individual plans are in regards to their enlistment with the military. As BigHit stated, Jin will be the first to enlist and all members will return by 2025. Since this year is almost over, this means the guys have up to 2 years to serve (18 months) within the years: 2023, 2024 & 2025...so coming back together by mid 2025 or towards the end of 2025, but definitely some time in 2025 based on the official message from BigHit Music earlier this Monday morning. As far as when each of the other members enlist, I haven't a clue but they should all be done with their military service by 2025 to be able to return together by then. I'm not Korean so I don't go by the Korean age system so for me, Jungkook just turned 25. I have my trust in Bangtan and will wait until they return altogether in the year 2025, which is right around the corner. Time flies for sure. Dynamite was released 2 years ago, but it feels like it was just yesterday. 💜

@@classical7 They're assuming if each member goes separately, so far we were only told Jin is going separately, but since they all will be back in 2025 after service, like you said- it means some of them will be enlisting together which they have every right to do. It's also better that way cause the time is shorter. 18 months if they go army. ARMYs are hoping that's the plan, if they all plan to be back in 2025, it certainly seems like that's what they'll be doing.

Imagine my reaction!! After work, when my mom came back, she told me ''your Jin has gone for military service''. I was in happy mood, but a sudden shock came into my life- I was like ''whhhaatt?'' 😥 This saddens me but also gives me even more reason to respect them. I Just found BTS two weeks ago and introduced my 8yr old granddaughter to them just yesterday. We had so much fun dancing around to their music together and she loves them now. bts has put out so many contents for the past 9 years. i've been an ARMY for 4 years and still haven't catched up to all haha. i will be having fun watching run bts, bangtan bombs, and listening to their music while they're inactive as a group. also if SK thinks not giving BTS an exemption is okay coz they think the ARMY will move on to another kpop group lmao. These ladies crack me up! Not even BTS can buy their way out of military service in SK. They most likely won't be put in the frontline, and after their bootcamp they will probably serve their time in a government office like the maritime or the fire dept. They won't stick them with commoners because of safety issues. BTS needs the time off to personally grow and they don't mind at all. They deserve a slower paced lifestyle for a couple years! They'll finally get to see what 9-5 feels like instead of working almost 24/7! A lot of the male korean actors or idols in the entertainment industry feel like military service did them good, personally and we all know it won't hurt them professionally. ARMY is loyal and they aren't going anywhere!

I think the BTS can be exempted to their military service if they wanted to!... but they are not going to use their popularity and their contributions that they gave to their Country's economy..... but I think since they are an idol around the world they want to be a good example for the people in their country and to the generation around the world to do their duty in the military service regardless who they are!.... if anyone is interested, there is a Korean channel called Seoulite tv and he gives very insightful information into how the Korean govt has been dangling exemption to BTS. He lists emails fans can use to voice their disappointment on how the govt has handled the whole situation.

the korean govt even held a poll and said that would decide if BTS was given an exemption. Over 60 percent said give them the exemption and the govt tossed the poll. The Korean govt needs to be called out for their inappropriate handling of BTS. The group is in a position where they cant speak freely. ARMY needs to speak for them!!!! This group has done so much for South Korea. kpop has gained so much attention. People are interested in Korean culture and the language. let's not mention the economic impact they've had on their country. I encourage all fans to check this channel out

I'll be here catching up on my bts merch and saving as I wait for them to come together again in 2025 for us. I agree with why they made this decision but I think to it was to stop some of the hate that the government was getting. BTS love their country. Was I heartbroken? Oh yes. Did I cry and am a still crying? Yes but when I became Army after being just a fan for a while, I swore to myself that I would love and support them in every decision they made in their lives. I had to get to that point before I would become an official army. I'll be 69 in 2025 and pray that my health will allow me to travel to see them when they come back together. I was at work when I heard and was so upset 😢! Not ready for this! I can see almost all Hollywood stars and westerns singers using their fame to get out of going in the army

No, it will not take three years before they can reunite as a group it will take three years for them to come out put together songs for a new album and learn choreography for a world tour! They only have to serve 18 months in the military. And there had been discussion that BTS would receive a six-month free period time for concerts add other appearances!
