If you watch DKDKTV's great explanation of all the details of BWL, it is primarily about their relationship with ARMY, which Halsey stands in for. The retro "look" and some of the mv content is based on the "old" film, Singin' In The Rain. BWL shows how, instead of mostly being inside the theater, they want to be outside, sharing with ARMY. The choreo is (yeah, right), simplified, so ARMY can participate. I've read that when earliest BTS was blocked from most SKorean media attention, that BigHit, and ARMY went to the internet, and that's a big part of how they became so internationally famous, and one of the reasons why they never forget ARMY. I haven't researched the earlier stuff, so I'm extrapolating here, that, since all their productions are connected in some way, I wonder if Boy In Luv, is negative, as you say, maybe it's about how they tried to get attention from the SK industry (and the public?), but kept getting rejected/refused/put down? I figure "the girl", like in most of their later works, doesn't mean "a girl", but symbolizes something else with layers and connections .

Boy in luv was their version of love as teens and young adults. Back then, they though love was passionate, hence the intense song. Boy with love is how they view love now as young men in early to mid twenties. They have finally realized that love isn't about the intensity or the passion but about those small moments that make you feel happy on the inside, hence the happy go-lucky and pleasant song. They have grown so much both literally and musically. BTS has always stayed true to their roots which is another reason for their success. They always go back to where they started and try to rebuild it with the experience they have gained in the past few years. That is why you saw so many references in persona. They went from talking about passionate love and anger towards the society to loving oneself. True artists! p.s- yes RM looked super hot in boy in luv and kind of blew us away cz he always had those questionable glasses on before. "In Seoul to the SKY" actually means Seoul University, Koryeo University and Yeonsae University. These are top 3 universities in south korea. High-rank universities are mostly located in Seoul so Korean students make their goals to make entrance to "In Seoul" for their academic success. It's like a Korean version of ivy league. The source material; Carl Jung (?) Map of the Soul. I keep thinking that I read something about it being in three parts (similar to LY Tear, Her, and Answer) Persona, Shadow, and Ego. If Persona is essentially the face that you present to the world, your current self -whether honest of false, Shadow might indicate more of your past. Past self, actions, transgressions, moreover in this context past music styles. I honestly don't know. I haven't read the book. This is just my own overactive thought processes. But, my point is that I share in your thought. I would like to hear a little more of this style.
