It's about BTS and ARMY on the journey together. When haters hate on BTS (shots fired), then ARMY runs in to protect them (taking the bullets for them). BTS gives strength and support to ARMYs (Jimin literally pulls one dancer back to feet). It's a circle of being each other's support and protectors. To be honest, when I first watched the MV I couldn't tell if the ninjas were friends or foe - it's because of the placement. Most of the time it looks like they're with BTS, but in couple of running scenes it feels like they're chacing the boys (=as if not running with them, but after them).

💜🌿🕺🌿💜 The ambiguity of the backup dancers in black does not bother me personally. Because there's a lot of ambiguity in all their work, and just like on any single day you can look at a scene and it'll have one mood for you, and a few hours later or another day the mood will change, like that that's how their art is. So the way I interpret this, and this is my personal fight anthem, I love it love it love it, so thanks for reacting to it, is that the backup dancers are Army, who sometimes flip and turn to haters. You know how people be close to you and get jealous? So like that. So then they start getting attacked, and they don't have their full Army to defend, and then they start going down, and then they have to help themselves, and then they still have some loyal Army who stick with them. That's the way I'm reading this video. But what matters to me most is how they say, sorry, not today, I will survive. Because that's what I need to hear in myself everyday, and I can hear it through this song.

For anyone who may see this, the director for BTS' videos has sad the hooded figures usually represent the haters. You'll see them in videos like this, Fire, Mic Drop. He said they always start as haters and as the video goes on they end up being Army. This video for example you see in JK's vision they were running from the hooded figures and in the end they were running with them!

I don't know how much you know about BTS' past but they had NOTHING when they started. BigHit was nothing. 100 of groups debut each year in korea and less than 10 percent stay for a few years. BTS were made fun of because they didn't have designer clothes during performances and were called the Dirty Spoon, which Suga mentions in MIC DROP. BTS & Big Hit were broke ass poor. It's hard to believe now seeing their success but BTS were the Underdogs. BTS were fighting to stay alive in the music business. They had big dreams. It's amazing that 7 boys had the same work ethic. BTS can out work anyone. They would work 10 to 16 hours a day. Making sure when and if that phone call ever came they'd be ready. Matter of fact is; because they came from Big Hit, nobody would book them. NOT TODAY is a song is about believing in each other and working hard to get to your mutual goals. BTS had to deal with so much racism and they still do because they are bringing something brand new to the western world, Asian Hip Hop/Pop/Rap/Rock Music. Some people don't want them because they are something different but one thing I as a BTS fan know, they will keep fighting until that Glass Ceiling is Broken. People may not understand them. People may think its odd that Asians sing hip hop pop but they are paving the way and in a few years, there will be many groups who look like them.
