SUGA personally said that "Tear" is a song dedicated to BTS members. He said the lyrics is what he wanted to tell the other BTS members and when he first made it and showed it to other members, all of the members cried their eyes out after listening to it. Because at that time, a lot of the BTS members were going through mentally difficult times that they even discussed about disbanding. So the breakup/farewell in the lyric represents disbanding of BTS and it's saying how the idea of "disbanding" tears his heart and makes him tear. That's why the song keeps talking about "we walked the same road" and "we dreamed the same dream".

This was written in 2018, which is one of the toughest and stressful years for BTS. They even thought of disbanding while writing this song. Army are really glad that they didn't disband because look at where they are now.

Not so long ago, they revealed that meanwhile working on this album and song, they were having a difficult time dealing with the pressure and expectations with the new level of fame and expectations and feeling ... so the thought of maybe disbanding was spoken by them and some of that feelings were used on this song, where they may be talking about that feeling of being torn up btw continuing together, keep that path and fight the sadness and craziness .. But they fund out that that pressure and sadness, together was more bearable, enjoyable, lighter, cuz they are 7 brothers .. (So that comment about introspective love, where you are torn apart in a toxic relationship with ourselves .. I love you, Borahae 💜)

They are great!, I love how they talk about heartbreak, and regardless the sadness of the topic, they made it sound powerful. Their presence on the stage is a mixture of authenticity and charm. Their lyrics are different and refreshing compare with other rappers that talk about drugs, guns, sex, cheating,....bla, bla, bla...the same toxic topics. That is one of the reasons why BTS have a lot of of fans. Their lyrics have always a message.

There in the comments are different Interpretation of what the song could mean. And in away it was about a break up not in a romantic way. Suga wrote this song when the band was on a verge of breaking up. When he showed it to his members they all cried. And I believe Jhope and RM added some stuff to the song as well. The 1at half is about them almost breaking the 2nd is when the basically said screw you we will make it.

TEAR is not the same now for us ARMYs after Suga explained the real reason behind this song. He revealed that this was written when the band was considering a breakup. “The lyrics for 'Tear' were written for the members,” he explained. “When I was writing the melody, at the time, we were deeply contemplating whether we should quit or not". Thats why this song is so painful for us now, specially Hobi's part.
